  • This study investigated the effects of pipe network materials and distance on system performance utilizing unused energy sources in large-scale horticulture facility. For this, the modeling was performed with a 100 m long and 100 m wide rectangular shaped glass house having an area of 1ha ($10,000m^2$) using EnergyPlus software. The heat sources considered were air source, geothermal heat, power plant waste heat, sea water heat, and river water. The temperature variation of the fluid with regard to pipe material and distance from the heat source and the resultant heat pump electricity consumptions were calculated. It turned out that the fluid temperature reaching the heat pump increased as the distance from the heat source increased in case of sea water and river water, which have higher temperatures than the surrounding soil, improving the heat pump efficiency. It was vice versa in case of the power plant waste heat. In addition, pipe material of PVC showed the smallest effect on the system performance variation due to the lowest thermal conductivity, compared to PB and HDPE.

  • In this paper, we report Mach Zehnder Interleaver of optical fiber type is fabricated by the fabrication system only for interfermeter design, and it is used $CO_2$ laser to adjust precisely the wavelength. The optical fiber is very sensitive in the thermal variation around. Thus, When fabrication the prototype, it is applied a technique to compensate the optical thermal effect because the center wavelength at the output is shifted according to the thermal variation around. it can he done by applying a substrate with high thermal expansion coefficient as well as an adjusting the position between two optical fiber couplers. Consequently, the output wavelength is shifted within 0.05 nm when the surrounding temperature varies until $60^{\circ}C$.

  • Wind load acting on a standalone structure is different from that acting on a similar structure which is surrounded by other structures in close proximity. The presence of other structures in the surrounding can change the wind flow regime around the principal structure and thus causing variation in wind loads compared to a standalone case. This variation on wind loads termed as interference effect depends on several factors like terrain category, geometry of the structure, orientation, wind incident angle, interfering distances etc., In the present study, a three building configuration is considered and the mean pressure coefficients on each face of principle building are determined in presence of two interfering buildings. Generally, wind loads on interfering buildings are determined from wind tunnel experiments. Computational fluid dynamic studies are being increasingly used to determine the wind loads recently. Whereas, wind tunnel tests are very expensive, the CFD simulation requires high computational cost and time. In this scenario, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) technique and Support Vector Regression (SVR) can be explored as alternative tools to study wind loads on structures. The present study uses these data-driven approaches to predict mean pressure coefficients on each face of principle building. Three typical arrangements of three building configuration viz. L shape, V shape and mirror of L shape arrangement are considered with varying interfering distances and wind incidence angles. Mean pressure coefficients (Cp mean) are predicted for 45 degrees wind incidence angle through ANN and SVR. Further, the critical faces of principal building, critical interfering distances and building arrangement which are more prone to wind loads are identified through this study. Among three types of building arrangements considered, a maximum of 3.9 times reduction in Cp mean values are noticed under Case B (V shape) building arrangement with 2.5B interfering distance. Effect of interfering distance and building arrangement on suction pressure on building faces has also been studied. Accordingly, Case C (mirror of L shape) building arrangement at a wind angle of 45º shows less suction pressure. Through this study, it was also observed that the increase of interfering distance may increase the suction pressure for all the cases of building configurations considered.

  • A geological repository has been considered as an option for the disposal of high-level radioactive waste (HLW). The HLW is disposed in a host rock at a depth of 500~1,000 meters below the ground surface based on the concept of engineered barrier system (EBS). The EBS is composed of a disposal canister, buffer material, backfill material, and gap-filling material. The compacted bentonite buffer is very important since it can restrain the release of radionuclide and protect the canister from the inflow of ground water. The saturation of the buffer decreases because high temperature in a disposal canister is released into the surrounding buffer material, but saturation of the buffer increases because of the inflow of ground water. The unsaturated properties of the buffer are critical input parameters for the entire safety assessment of the engineered barrier system. In Korea, Gyeongju bentonite can be considered as a candidate buffer material, but there are few test results of the unsaturated properties considering temperature variation. Therefore, this paper conducted experiment of soil-water characteristic curve for the Gyeongju compacted bentonite considering temperature variation under a constant water content condition. The relative error showed approximately 2% between test results and modified van-Genuchten model values.

  • CCW(China Coastal Water) is different each year. It appears clearly from June to October in the neighboring sea of Jeju island. It appears in June, and it's strong most in August, after tat disappears in October. CCW appeared clearly at 1996 and 1999 during investigation period(1995 to 1999). SLA and SST appear annual variations(about 365day), semi-annual variations(about 180day) from power spectral density. After PCA(Principal component analysis), it's different. PCA of SLA shows 43day variations and PCA of SST shows 259day variations. SLA and SST appear annual variation, semi-annual variation and seasonal variation from power spectral density. SLA appeared that summer and fall of 1996 and 1999 is higher than other years. It seem to be being the relationship which is close with the severe rain strom. Temperature distribution of sea surface according to season is different, but clearly water temperature boundary divides this area into Yellow Sea and East China Sea. It considered that CCW follow according to boundary of temperature. The variation which it follows at time of SLA and SST is faster about one month to three month at Yangtz.

  • Venous puncture is widely used to obtain blood samples for pathological examination. Because the invasive venipuncture method using a needle is repeatedly performed, the pain suffered by the patient increases, so our research team pre-developed a miniaturized near-infrared (NIR) imaging system in advance. To improve the image quality of the acquired NIR images, this study aims to model the non-local means (NLM) algorithm, which is well known to be efficient in noise reduction, and analyze its applicability in the system. The developed NIR imaging system is based on the principle that infrared rays pass through dichroic and long-pass filters and are detected by a CMOS sensor module. The proposed NLM algorithm is modeled based on the principle of replacing the pixel from which noise is to be removed with a value that reflects the distances between surrounding pixels. After acquiring an NIR image with a central wavelength of 850 nm, the NLM algorithm was applied to segment the final vein area through histogram equalization. As a result, the coefficient of variation of the NIR image of the vein using the NLM algorithm was 0.247 on average, which was an excellent result compared to conventional filtering methods. In addition, the dice similarity coefficient value of the NLM algorithm was improved by 62.91 and 9.40%, respectively, compared to the median filter and total variation methods. In conclusion, we demonstrated that the NLM algorithm can acquire accurate segmentation of veins acquired with a NIR imaging system.

  • The incidence of fires caused by electrical factors has increased with the growth in domestic electrical consumption. According to the national fire data system of national emergency management agency, electrical fires accounted for 20% of all domestic fires in the last 10 years. Electrical fires are mainly caused by short circuit, leakage current, defect in an electrical equipment, over load, utility fault, etc. The fault current can be several times larger than the nominal current, thereby exceeding the rated current of cable. Consequently, the cable conductor, typically copper wire, heats up to a temperature that ignites surrounding combustibles. This paper describes the transient characteristics of the 0.6/1kV, TFR-8 cable have been investigated, and analyzed under the over current conditions for reduce the risk of electrical fire by experimental and FEM analysis. The experimental and FEM(Finite Element Method) analysis results of temperature and resistance variation according to the over current in copper wires were analyzed. The experimental results coincide well with the FEM analysis.

  • GPS cannot determine random errors such as multipath and signal cutoff caused by surrounding environment that determines the visibility of satellites and the speed of data creation and transmission is lower than the speed of vehicles, it is difficult to determine accurate dynamic positions. Thus this study purposed to implement a method of deciding the accurate dynamic position of vehicles by combining AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System) IMU (Initial Measurement Unit) based on low-priced MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) in order to provide the information of attitude, position and speed at a high transmission rate without external help. This study conducted an initialization test to decide dynamic position using AHRS IMU sensor, and derived attitude correction angles of vehicles against time through regression analysis. The roll angle was $y=(A{\times}10^{-6})x^2 -(B{\times}10^{-5})x+Cr{\times}10^{-2}$ and the pitch angle was $y=(A{\times}10^{-6})x^2-(B{\times}10^{-7})x+C{\times}10^{-2}$, each of which was derived from second-degree polynomial regression analysis. It was also found that the heading angle was stabilized with variation less than $1^{\circ}$ after 60 seconds.

  • In order to understand the variation of air quality and the concentration of atmospheric particulates in Chengdu Second Ring Road renovation project, this paper starts to investigate the surrounding residents' opinions on the influenced environment and their daily lives via questionnaires. Then the study numerically simulates the change rule of atmospheric particulates in terms of time and space by using the Gaussian dispersion-deposition model and the compartment model. The optimized scientific scheme is selected by the improved fuzzy analytical hierarchy process(FAHP) to help decision making for the future urban reconstructions. Finally, the reduced emissions of atmospheric particulates are measured when the improvement scheme is provided. According to the study, it can be concluded that the concentration of atmospheric particulates increases rapidly in central Chengdu city during the renovation project, which results in worsening air quality in Chengdu during March 2012 to March 2013. Taking related measures on energy saving and emission reduction can effectively reduce the concentration of atmospheric particulates and promote economic, environmental and social coordination.
