Model Predictive Torque Control of Surface Mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Drives with Voltage Cost Functions

  • In this paper, a model predictive torque control (MPTC) without the use of a weighting factor for surface mounted permanent-magnet synchronous machine (SPMSM) drive systems is presented. Firstly, the desired voltage vector is predicted in real time according to the principles of deadbeat torque and flux control. Then the sector of this desired voltage vector is determined. The complete enumeration for testing all of the feasible voltage vectors is avoided by testing only the candidate vectors contained in the sector. This means that only two voltage vectors in the sector need to be tested for selecting the optimal voltage vector in each control period. Thus, the calculation time can be reduced when compared with the conventional enumeration method. On the other hand, a novel cost function that only includes the dq-axis voltage errors between the desired voltage and candidate voltage is designed to eliminate the weighting factor used in the conventional MPTC. Thus, the control complexity caused by the tuning of the weighting factor is effectively decreased when compared with the conventional MPTC. Simulation and experimental investigation have been carried out to verify the proposed method.

  • In servo system demanding precision dynamic characteristics, application of the Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Machines (PMLSM) has advantage of analysis convenience by simple geometry and thrust ripple reduction from the sinusoidal back electromotive force and excited stator. Therefore, this paper presents design of surface-mounted PMLSM with slotless iron cored stator according to coil turns to satisfy the rate thrust. Also, from dynamic analysis for servo application of manufactured motor with heavy mass, we offer accurate range of the DC link voltage and acceleration in rate speed. This is applied to speed reference profile considering system characteristics in total length of moving position.

  • Core loss has a major effect on heat generation in synchronous motors with surface-mounted permanent magnets (SPMs). It is essential to perform heat transfer analysis considering core loss in SPM because core loss is seriously affected by torque and speed of motors. In the present study, mechanical loss, core loss and coil loss are evaluated by measuring input and output energies under various driving conditions. For a better understanding heat transfer paths in synchronous motors, we developed a lumped thermal system analysis model. Subsequently, heat transfer analysis has been performed based on acquired energy loss, temperature data and thermal resistance with three types of SPM. It is shown that the torque constants decrease by Max. 10% as speed increase. At the rated torque, the core loss is Max. 10.9 times greater than the coil loss and the hysteresis loss of magnets is dominant in total loss.

  • This paper describes the speed control of the surface-mounted permanent-magent synchronous motors (SMPMSNM) for elevator drive. The elevator motor needs to be a compact and slim type. Essentially, the proposed scheme uses a vector control algorithm for a speed and torque control and Anti-windup technique is adopted to prevent a windup phenomenon. This system is implemented using a high speed 32-bit DSP (TMS320C31-50), a high-integrated logic device FPGA(EPF10K10TI144-3) to design compactly and inexpensively. The proposed scheme is verified by the results through digital simulation and experiments for a three-phase 13.3[kW] SMPMSM as a MRL(MachineRoomLess) elevator motor in the laboratory.

  • The information on the actual voltages and actual currents of the motor is required for the sensorless control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor without rotor position sensors. In the model-based rotor position estimator of a PM synchronous motor, the reference voltages, which are the outputs of the current controller, are commonly used. The reference voltages in over-modulation regions for high-speed operation differ from the actual voltages applied to the motor. Consequently, the estimated rotor position and rotor speed may fail to track the real rotor position and real rotor speed. In this paper, the sensorless control for a PM synchronous motor in over-modulation regions for high-speed operation is proposed. The three-phase voltages applied to the motor are measured by using additional voltage detection circuits, and the performance of the rotor position estimator based on the measured three-phase voltages is validated through the experimental results.

  • 본 논문에서는 표면부착형 영구자석 동기전동기(SPMSM)의 새로운 전압 위상 제어 방법을 제안한다. 영구자석 동기전동기의 모델로부터 d축 전류를 추정하고, d축 전류가 영(零)이 되도록 전압 지령의 위상을 제어함으로써 영구자석 동기전동기의 역기전력과 전류의 위상을 맞춘다. 제안된 방식은 전류 제어 없이 단순히 전압 제어만을 수행하기 때문에 저가 구현이 중요시 되는 산업계 응용에 적합하다. 모의 실험을 통해 제안된 방식의 동작 특성을 평가한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 전압평면에서 표면 부착형 영구자석 동기전동기(Surface Mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, SPMSM)의 전압과 전류 제한에 따른 운전 영역을 분석하고, 무한 속도 제한을 갖는 SPMSM에 적용 가능한 전압 궤환을 이용한 약자속 제어 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 기법은 시뮬레이션을 통해 그 타당성을 검증하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 철손을 고려한 SPMSM(Surface mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor)의 모델로부터 출력 토크를 향상시킬 수 있도록 하는 개선된 MTPA(Maximum Torque Per Ampere) 제어 기법을 제안하였다. d축 전류를 0으로 사용하는 SPMSM의 기존 MTPA 제어 방식보다 철손을 고려한 MTPA 전류로 운전하는 제안된 방식이 더 큰 출력 토크를 얻을 수 있음을 800W PMSM에 대한 시뮬레이션을 통해 확인하였다.
