Retention of Endothelial Cells adhered on Polyurethane Surface under Flow Condition

  • Construction of the stable monolayer of endothelial cells onto physicochemically modified polymeric surFace is one of the appropriate method to develop the small caliber vascular graft with the long-term patency. In this study, we constructed the monolayer of endothelial cells on the fibronectin rind the extracellular matrix-coated polyurethane surface derived from human fibroblast cells. To elucidate the adhesion strength of endothelial cells on the extracellular matrix-coated polyurethane, a laminar flow chamber apparatus was developed to exposure the shear stress on the apical membrane of ondothelial cells. Endothelial cells show the strongest adhesion after two days of seeding onto the fibronectin-coated polyurethane surface, whereas endothelial cells on the extracellular matrix derived from the human flbroblast cells show the minimal doubling time of cellular growth.

하수처리수 재이용을 위한 RO 공정의 타당성 및 막오염 평가 (Evaluation of RO Process Feasibility and Membrane Fouling for Wastewater Reuse)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate various pre-treatment methods and proprieties of water quality for wastewater reuse using reverse osmosis (RO) processes. Secondary effluents were sampled from wastewater treatment plants and lab scale pre-treatments and RO filtration test were conducted systematically. Specifically, different types of pre-treatments, such as coagulation, microfiltration and ultrafiltration, were employed to evaluate the removal efficiency of particle and organic matters which may affect the membrane fouling rate. RO process was later added to eliminate trace amounts of remaining organic matters and salt from the raw water for wastewater reclamation. The permeate through the RO process satisfied water quality regulations for industrial water uses. The experimental results showed that the initial fouling tendency differed not only by the feed water properties but also by the membrane characteristics. Membrane fouling was greater for the membranes with large surface roughness, regardless of the hydrophobicity and zeta potentials. Thus both careful consideration of pre-treatment options and proper selection of RO membrane are of paramount importance for an efficient operation of wastewater treatment.

Improved adsorption performance of heavy metals by surface modification of polypropylene/polyethylene media through oxygen plasma and acrylic acid

  • Industrialization and modern developments have led to an influx of toxic heavy metals into the aquatic environment, and the accumulation of heavy metals has serious adverse effects on humans. Among the various heavy metal treatment methods, adsorption is very useful and frequently used. Plastic materials, such as polypropylene and polyethylene, have been widely used as filter media due to their mechanical and chemical stability. However, the surface of plastic material is inert and therefore the adsorption capability of heavy metals is very limited. In this study, granular media and fiber media composed of polypropylene and polyethylene are used, and the surface modification was conducted in order to increase adsorption capability toward heavy metals. Oxygen plasma generated hydroxyl groups on the surface of the media to activate the surface, and then acrylic acid was synthesized on the surface. The grafted carboxyl group was confirmed by FT-IR and SEM. Heavy metal adsorption capability of pristine and surface modified adsorbents was also evaluated. Overall, heavy metal adsorption capability was increased by surface modification due to electrostatic interaction between the carboxyl groups and heavy metal ions. Fibrous PP/PE showed lower improvement compared to granular PP media because pore blockage occurred by the surface modification step, thereby inhibiting mass transfer.

SMMs을 이용한 고분자막의 표면개질과 이의 투과증발분리 연구 (Surface Modification of Poly(vinylidene fluoride) Membranes using Surface Modifying Macromolecules (SMMs) and Their Application to Pervaporation Separation)

  • 폴리비닐리덴풀루오라이드(Poly vinylidene fluoride, PVDF) 막을 고분자(Surface Modifying Macromolecules, SMM) 첨가제를 사용하여 표면 개질 하였다. 표면 개질된 PVDF 막의 제조는 0에서부터 2 wt%까지 SMM의 다양한 농도로 제조되었으며, 사용된 SMM으로써는 Zonyl BA-L을 이용하였다. 제조된 막을 이용하여 주사 전자 현미경법(SEM)과 접촉각 측정(Contact angle)을 하였고, 투과증발(Pervaporation)공정을 이용하여 물-에탄올 계의 분리실험을 통해 특성 평가를 하였다. 그 결과 SEM image를 통하여 SMM이 PVDF막 표면에 층을 형성하였음을 알 수 있었고, 접촉각은 기존의 PVDF 막 보다 SMM을 2 wt% 첨가하였을 때 $8^{\circ}$ 증가한 것으로 보아 소수성이 증가한 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 물-에탄올 계에 대한 투과증발 실험은 다양한 조업온도별(50, 60, $70^{\circ}C$)로 수행하였으며, Zonyl의 함량이 PVDF 대비 1, 2 wt% 함유된 막을 사용하였으며 원액의 조성은 무게비로 물 10, 20, 50, 100%에 대하여 조사하였다. 물 : 에탄을 = 10 : 90 조성, 조업온도 $50^{\circ}C$에서 선택도 287과 투과도 5.3 $g/m^2hr$를 PVDF/2 wt% Zonyl BA-L 막이 보여주었다.

The Distribution of Barbiturates in Model Membranes of Total Lipids and Total Phospholipids Extracted from Brain Membranes

  • The distribution of barbiturates in the model membranes of total lipids (SPMVTL) and total phospholipids (SPMVPL) extracted from synaptosomal plasma membrane vesicles was determined by employing a fluorescent probe technique. The two fluorescent probes 2-(9-anthroyl)stearic acid and 12-(9-anthroyl)stearic acid were utilized as probes for the surface and the hydrocarbon interior of the outer monolayer of the SPMVTL and SPMVPL, respectively. The Stern-Volmer equation of fluorescent quenching was modified to calculate the relative distribution. The analysis of preferential quenching of these probes by barbiturates indicates that pentobarbital, hexobarbital, amobarbital and phenobarbital are predominantly distributed on the surface area, while thiopental sodium has an accessibility to the hydrocarbon interior of the outer monolayer of the SPMVTL and SPMVPL. From these results, it is strongly suggested that the more effective penetration into the hydrocarbon interior of the outer monolayer of the membrane lipid bilayer could result in a higher general anesthetic activity.

  • In this study on the appliable Asphalt sheet of monolithic and inorganic matter waterproofing ,Fing material using of field because of problem of complex waterproofing sheet. Before this cement polymer modified waterproof coating and appliable asphalt sheet of monolithic whether have stability by method of construction about all style waterproofing that evaluate to new method of construction development naturally big emphasis put and try to approach. Did performance test item first at, as a result, drew by suitable thing in all KS items. This is considered to have more effective spot construction work because if means that have stability by material as well as method of construction.

용해도 파라미터에 의한 막과 esters 간의 친화도 예측 (Prediction of Affinity between Membrane and Esters Using Solubility Parameter)

  • FASs로 표면 개질한 소수성 막을 이용하여 수용액으로부터 에스테르 성분을 분리/농축 가능성을 알기 위하여, FASs (Fluoloalkyl-silanes-coupling agent)의 용해도 파라미터를 구하여 에스테르와 물의 용해도 파라미터와 비교하였다. FASs의 용해도 파라미터는 ${\delta}_t=16.9$이었으며, 에스테르(ethyl acetate ${\delta}_t=18.1$, propyl acetate ${\delta}_t=18.0$, ethyl propionate ${\delta}_t=17.9$, butyl acetate ${\delta}_t=17.4$, ethyl butyrate ${\delta}_t=17.0$)의 용해도 파라미터와 비슷하였다. 그러나, 물의 용해도 파라미터는 ${\delta}_t=47.8$이었으며, FASs의 용해도 파라미터(${\delta}_t=16.9$)와는 큰 차이를 나타내었다. 이것은 FASs로 표면 개질한 소수성 막이 물 보다는 에스테르 성분에 매우 큰 친화도를 나타내는 것을 의미한다. FASs로 표면개질한 알루미나 막을 통한 이들 에스테르 성분들의 투과플럭스에 대한 실험치는 용해도 파라미터에 의해 예측한 투과플럭스 크기의 순서와 거의 동일하였으며, 용해도 파라미터에 의한 투과플럭스 예측은 천연 향의 수용액으로부터 향의 주성분인 에스테르 성분을 분리/농축하는 데 적용할 수 있음을 보여준다.

UV 조사에 의한 아민화 Poly(ethersulfone) 이온교환막의 제조 및 특성 (Preparation and Properties of Aminated Poly(ethersulfone) Ion-Exchange Membrane by UV Irradiation Method)

  • UV 조사방법으로 poly(ethersulfone) PES 막에 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid(BTCA)를 그래프트 공중합하고, 이를 아민화시켜 PES 음이온교환막을 합성하였으며, 이들의 구조 및 특성을 확인하였다. PES 음이온교환막의 그래프트율과 아민화율은 반응 시간에 따라 증가하였으며, 80분에서 최대 134%, 1.20 mmol/g이었다. PES 음이온교환막의 초기 열분해온도는 $400^{\circ}C$로 표면개질반응이 진행됨에 따라 감소하였다. PES 음이온교환막의 접촉각은 아민화율이 증가함에 따라 $68.1^{\circ}{\sim}40.2^{\circ}$로 감소하였으며, 함수율과 이온교환용량은 UV 조사시간이 증가함에 따라 80분까지 선형적으로 증가하였다. 또한 막의 평균 기공의 크기와 비표면적은 PES 막, PES-g-BTCA 공중합체막, PES 음이온교환막의 순이었으며, 평균기공 크기값은 624.8, 359.7, 138.5 ${\AA}$, 비표면적은 10.1, 9.7, 1.7 $m^2/g$이었다.

연료전지 분리판의 형상설계를 위한 유동해석 (Flow-Field Analysis for Designing Bipolar Plate Patterns in a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell)

  • A numerical flow-field analysis is performed to investigate flow configurations in the anode, cathode and cooling channels on the bipolar plates of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). Continuous open-faced flow channels are formed on the bipolar plate surface to supply hydrogen, air and water. In this analysis, two types of channel pattern are considered: serpentine and spiral. The averaged pressure distribution and velocity profiles of the hydrogen, air and water channels are calculated by two-dimensional flow-field analysis. The equations for the conservation of mass and momentum in the two-dimensional fluid flow analysis are slightly modified to include the characteristics of the PEMFC. The analysis results indicate that the serpentine flow-fields are locally unstable (because two channels are cross at right angles). The spiral flow-fields has more stable than the serpentine, due to rotational fluid-flow inertia forces. From this study, the spiral channel pattern is suggested for a channel pattern of the bipolar plate of the PEMFC to obtain better performance.

폴리에틸렌이민으로 개질된 리포솜의 표면 특성 (Surface Properties of Liposomes Modified with Poly(ethylenimine))

  • 암을 치료하기 위한 양이온성 리포솜은 화학치료요법의 분야에서 발전되어 왔다. 양이온성 리포솜은 음이온성의 세포 표면에 정전기적 상호작용에 의해 결합이 된다. 본 연구의 목적은 음이온성 세포와 이온결합을 할 수 있는 양이온성 리포솜을 제조하는 것이다. 양이온성 리포솜은 지질인 1,2-디스테로일-sn-글리콜-3-포스포에탄올아민 (DSPE)과 양이온성 고분자인 폴리에틸렌이민 (PEI)을 그라프트 중합으로 합성된 물질로부터 제조하였다. 리포솜 표면의 이온 특성은 제타 포텐셜을 측정하여 확인하였다. 소 혈청 수용액에서 리포솜의 혈장 단백질 흡착 특성은 입자 크기와 탁도 변화를 측정하여 확인하였다. 완충 용액 속에서 리포솜 안정성을 예측하기 위하여 입자 크기를 7일 동안 상온에서 측정하였다. 양이온성 리포솜은 소 혈청 수용액에서 많은 양의 혈장 단백질이 흡착되었다. 이는 혈장 단백은 음전하를 가지고 있어서 양이온성 리포솜의 표면과 잘 붙기 때문이다. 양이온성 폴리에틸렌이민을 이용한 리포솜의 표면 변형은 소 혈청 수용액 내에서 단백질 흡착을 강화시킨다는 것을 예상하게 한다. 또한, 제조된 리포솜의 완충 용액 내에서 7일 동안 안정한 상태임을 관찰하였다.
