It is very important to understand the flow characteristics for design of the hull forms with better resistance and propulsive performance. The experimental results explicating the local flow characteristics are also invaluable for validation of the CFD codes for both inviscid and viscous flow calculations. This paper describes the techniques and equipment developed for the measurement of wave pattern on the free surface and local mean velocity fields around the stern of the modern container ship with bow and stern bulbs in KRISO towing tank. The results contained in this paper can provide the valuable information on the flow characteristics of the modern commercial hull form of small block coefficient with high speed.

We present the optical design and a sensitivity analysis for a wide field of view (FOV) instrument operating at UV and IR wavelengths. The ongoing investigation is performed in collaboration with Omnisys Instruments (Sweden) and focuses on a telluric-limb-viewing instrument that will fly in a low Earth orbit to study mesospheric wave structures over a wide range of horizontal scales in the altitude range 80 - 100 km. The instrument has six wavelength channels which consist of 4 channels of IR and 2 of UV. We are proposing an optical design based on three mirror aplanatic off-axis reflective system. The entrance pupil diameter and effective focal length are 45 mm and 270 mm, respectively. The FOV is $5.5^{\circ}{\times}1^{\circ}$ and the secondary mirror is set for stop. The optical specification is required to have an encircled energy of at least 80 % within a diameter of 21 um. We performed sensitivity analysis for the longest wavelength of 772 nm in consideration of the diffraction limit of system. The results show that tolerance limits for positions and angles of the mirrors are not very sensitive compared with typical error budgets of manufacturing and assembling process. The secondary mirror has the most sensitive tolerance for surface figure of 250 nm in root-mean-square.
An inductively coupled magnetical signal (pulse wave, 0.7 to 60Hz, eighteen volts peak to Peak) that was applied non-invasively on the skin surface overlying the approximate site(measure position). In the group with unipolar pulse signal currents produced smaller than in the group with bipolar pulse signal. The signal was transmitted to the active coil, including a time-varying magnetic field: this in turn induced a the-varying electrical field in the field in the bone. It is very important to determine system parameters due to treatment time(healing) and the simplicity. This paper investigation was designed to compare the relative effects of pulsed unipolar currents with the effects of an identical pulsed bipolar currents. Since Inductive coupling is non-invasive and involves portable equipment, it is easy to apply and requires precise localization, it has distinct advantages and field characteristics along the bone for each different signal.
A combined experimental and numerical effort is presented for investigation of reflection of irregular waves due to rectangular submerged breakwaters. In the numerical model, the Reynolds equations are solved by a finite difference method and k-$\varepsilon$ model is employed for the turbulence analysis. To track the free surface displacement, the volume of fluid method is employed. Numerical predictions of transmission and reflection coefficients are verified by comparing to laboratory measurements. Very reasonable agreements are observed. The reflection coefficients become stronger in proportion to numbers of submerged breakwaters.

An experiment to find out the removal mechanism of PEG(polyethyleneglycol) by using UV-enhanced $O_2$ GPC (gas phase cleaning) at low substrate temperature below $200^{\circ}C$ was executed under various process conditions, such as substrate temperature, UV exposure, and $O_2$ gas. The possibility of using $UV/O_2$ GPC as a low-temperature in-situ cleaning tool for organic removal was confirmed by the removal of a PEG film with a thickness of about 200 nm within 150 sec at a substrate temperature of $200^{\circ}C$. Synergistic effects by combining photo-dissociation and photo oxidation can only remove the entire PEG film without residues within experimental splits. In $UV/O_2$ GPC with substrate temperatures higher than the glass transition temperature, the substantial increase in the PEG removal rate can be explained by surface-wave formation. The photo-dissociation of PEG film by UV exposure results in the formation of end aldehyde by dissociation of back-bone chain and direct decomposition of light molecules. The role of oxygen is forming peroxide radicals and/or terminating the dis-proportionation reaction by forming peroxide.
An edge tone is the discrete tone or narrow-band sound produced by an oscillating free shear layer impinging on a rigid surface. In this paper we present a two-dimensional edge tone to predict the frequency characteristics of the discrete oscillations of a jet-edge feedback cycle by the finite difference lattice Boltzmann method. We use a new lattice BGK compressible fluid model that has an additional term and allow larger time increment comparing a conventional FDLB model, and also use a boundary fitted coordinates. The jet is chosen long enough in order to guarantee the parabolic velocity profile of the jet at the outlet, and the edge consists of a wedge with an angle of ${\alpha}=23^{\circ}$ . At a stand-off distance ${\omega}$ , the edge is inserted along the centreline of the jet, and a sinuous instability wave with real frequency f is assumed to be created in the vicinity of the nozzle and to propagate towards the downstream. We have succeeded in capturing very small pressure fluctuations result from periodically oscillation of jet around the edge. That pressure fluctuations propagate with the sound speed. Its interaction with the wedge produces an irrotational feedback field which, near the nozzle exit, is a periodic transverse flow producing the singularities at the nozzle lips.

A floating rig, which has been used to develop the ocean resources has a common characteristics with the catamaran ship that it is composed of the two simple hulls. So the motion responses of the floating rig can be predicted theoretically with the aid of the strip method as those of the catamaran. And for the strip method, the two-dimensional hydrodynamic coefficients are the most important inputs to predict the results accurately. In this report, a theoretical method is proposed for calculating two-dimensional hydrodynamic forces and moments acting upon arbitrary shaped twin-hull cylinders, which are forced to make a heaving, swaying and rolling oscillation about their mean position on the free surface of a finite depth water. The theoretical results by making use of the singularity distribution method are presented. The accuracy of the coefficients was confirmed to be reasonable by the comparison with the Ohkusu's results for two circular cylinders in an infinite depth water. The depth effects on two-dimensional hydrodynamic coefficients for two circular cylinders are also checked. In some range of wave numbers, large differences in the behavior of hydrodynamic coefficients between for a finite depth and for an infinite depth are shown.

Investigation of hydroelastic responses of high-speed vessels in irregular sea state is of major interest in naval applications. A three dimensional nonlinear time-domain hydroelastic method in oblique irregular waves is developed, in which the nonlinear hydrostatic restoring force caused by instantaneous wetted surface and slamming force are considered. In order to solve the two technical problems caused by irregular sea state, the time-domain retardation function and Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) autopilot model are applied respectively. Besides, segmented model tests of a high-speed trimaran in oblique waves are performed. An oblique wave testing system for trimarans is designed and assembled. The measured results of main hull and cross-decks are analyzed, and the differences in distribution of load responses between trimarans and monohull ships are discussed. Finally, from the comparisons, it is confirmed that the present concept for dealing with nonlinear hydroelastic responses of ships in oblique irregular waves is reliable and accurate.
The determination of the blast protection level and the corresponding minimum load-bearing capacity for a laminated glass (LG) window is of crucial importance for safety and security design purposes. In this paper, the focus is given to the window response under near-field blast loading, i.e., where relatively small explosives would be activated close to the target, representative of attack scenarios using small commercial drones. In general, the assessment of the load-bearing capacity of a window is based on complex and expensive experiments, which can be conducted for a small number of configurations. On the other hand, nowadays, validated numerical simulations tools based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) are available to partially substitute the physical tests for the assessment of the performance of various LG systems, especially for the far-field blast loading. However, very little literature is available on the LG window performance under near-field blast loads, which differs from far-field situations in two points: i) the duration of the load is very short, since the blast wavelength tends to increase with the distance and ii) the load distribution is not uniform over the window surface, as opposed to the almost plane wave configuration for far-field configurations. Therefore, the current study focuses on the performance assessment and structural behaviour of LG windows under near-field blasts. Typical behavioural trends are investigated, by taking into account possible relevant damage mechanisms in the LG window components, while size effects for target LG windows are also addressed under a multitude of blast loading configurations.
The upper chords in half-through truss bridges are prone to buckling due to a lack of the upper transverse connections. Taking into account geometric and material nonlinearity, nonlinear finite-element analysis of a simple supported truss bridge was carried out to exhibit effects of different types of initial imperfections. A half-wave of initial imperfection was proved to be effective in the nonlinear buckling analysis. And a parameter analysis of initial imperfections was also conducted to reveal that the upper chords have the greatest impact on the buckling, followed by the bottom chords, vertical and diagonal web members. Yet initial imperfections of transverse beams have almost no effect on the buckling. Moreover, using influence surface method, the combinatorial effects of initial imperfections were compared to demonstrate that initial imperfections of the upper chords play a leading role. Furthermore, the equivalent effective length coefficients of the upper chord were derived to be 0.2~0.28 by different methods, which implies vertical and diagonal web members still provide effective constraints for the upper chord despite a lack of the upper transverse connections between the two upper chords. Therefore, the geometrical and material nonlinear finite-element method is effective in the buckling analysis due to its higher precision. Based on nonlinear analysis and installation deviations of members, initial imperfection of l/500 is recommended in the nonlinear analysis of half-through truss bridges without initial imperfection investigation.
