In this study, friction tests were carried out in order to investigate the friction behavior of textured surface in unlubricated state using ball-on-disk type apparatus. Test specimens were SUJ2 bearing steel ball and SM45C steel disk. Square arrays of circular micro-dimples were created on the surface of disk specimen by Nd:YAG Laser. Friction tests were performed for the disk specimen with various micro-dimple parameters and was also conducted for the variation of normal loads and relative velocities. The results showed that fiction coefficient of textured surface was lower than that of non-textured surface and the deeper depth of micro-dimple was, the lower friction coefficient obtained at the same diameter of micro-dimple in unlubricated state. Area density of micro-dimple had an effect on the friction coefficient. It was also found that friction coefficient generally decreased with the increase of normal load and relative velocity.

YBCO superconducting thick films were prepared on Ag wire by electrophoresis in acetone and ethanol with chemically modified suspension. The addition of organic compounds, such as PEG, EG into suspension solution for improving critical current density was investigated. Surface state, deposition condition, pore distribution and cracks were investigated by using SEM photographs. Controlling preparation conditions were studied for reducing these defects. As a results, in acetone solution, the surface crack of samples was decreased with increasing PEG. On the contrary, the surface crack of sample was increasing with increasing the amount of EG. In ethanol solution without I$_2$, which was generally used for an electrolyte, the deposition time was longer than this of acetone. For that reason the sample deposition in ethanol time was needed with enough stirring time for suspending YBCO powder and deposition time.
Using two-dimensional numerical hydrodynamic simulations, we investigate the star formation rate (SFR) in turbulent, multiphase, galactic gaseous disks. Our simulation domain is axisymmetric, and local in the radial direction and global in the vertical direction. Our models include galactic rotation, vertical density stratification, self-gravity, radiative heating and cooling, and thermal conduction, but do not include spiral-arm features. Turbulence in our models is driven by momentum feedback from supernova explosion events occurring in localized dense regions formed by thermal and gravitational instabilities. Self-consistent radiative heating, representing enhanced/reduced FUV photons from the star formation, is also taken into account. By controlling three parameters (the gas surface density, the stellar disk density, and the angular rotation rate) that characterize local galactic disks, we explore how the SFR depends on the background environmental state. We also discuss the relation between the SFR and the gas surface density found in our numerical models in comparison with observations.
One of the most important characteristics of Mg alloys is the high ratio of strength to weight. This is why there is a high demand for applications with these alloys in the transportation industries to reduce the fuel consumption and to save energy. In addition, magnesium (and its alloys) is of considerable interest as a structural material, especially in the aerospace and automotive industries thanks to its low density. However, its major drawback is its high sensitivity to corrosion. Therefore, its use requires the application of a surface treatment. This study used a die-casted AZ91D Mg alloyand all the samples were annealed (in $120^{\circ}C$). The surface microstructure and phase distribution in thin-walled AZ91D magnesium components cast on a hot-chamber die-casting machine were investigated by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The reflectance differences in the bulk state comparison with the annealing state are caused by hydrogenation presence of the Mg layer under an oxidation surface layer.

A small electrical potential difference which appears on any solid body when subjected to illumination by a modulated light beam generated by laser is called photocharge voltage(PCV)[1,2]. This voltage is proportional to the induced change in the surface electrical charge and is capacitatively measured on various materials such as conductors, semiconductors, ceramics, dielectrics and biological objects. The amplitude of the detected signal depends on the type of material under investigation, and on the surface properties of the sample. In photocharge voltage spectroscopy measurements[3], the sample is illuminated by both a steady state monochromatic bias light and the pulsed laser. The monochromatic light is used to created a variation in the steady state population of trap levels in the surface and space charge region of semiconductor samples which does result in a change in the measured voltage. Using this technique the spatial variation of PCV can be utilized to evalulate the surface conditions of the sample and the variation of the PCV due to the monochromatic bias light are utilized to charactrize the surface states. A qualitative analysis of the proposed measuremen is present along with experimental results performed on amorphous silicon samples. The deposition temperature was varied in order to obtain samples with different structural, optical and electronic properties and measurements are related to the defect density in amorphous thin film.

The rear side contact recombination in the crystalline silicon solar cell could be reduced by back surface field. We formed polycrystalline silicon as a back surface field through crystallization of amorphous silicon. A thin silicon oxide applied to the passivation layer. We used quasi-steady-state photoconductance measurement to analyze electrical properties with various annealing condition. And, blister formed on surface of wafer during the annealing process. We observed the blister after varied annealing process with wafer of various surface. Shape and density of blister is influenced by various annealing temperature and process time. As the annealing temperature became higher, the average diameter of blister is decreased and total number of blister is increased. The sample with the $600^{\circ}C$ annealing temperature and 1 min annealing time exhibited the highest implied open circuit voltage and lifetime. We predicted that the various shape and density of blister affects the lifetime and implied open circuit voltage.

This article introduces a facile nanoparticle self-assembly/annealing method for the preparation of nanoisland films. First, nanoparticle-polymer multilayer films are prepared with layer-by-layer assembly. Nanoparticle multilayer films are then annealed at $~500^{\circ}C$ in air to evaporate organic matters from the films. During the annealing process, the nanoparticles on the solid surface undergo nucleation and coalescence, resulting in the formation of nanostructured gold island arrays. By controlling the overall thickness (number of layers) of nanoparticle multilayer films, nanoisland films with various island density and different average sizes are obtained. The surface property of gold nanoisland films is further controlled by the self-assembly of alkanethiols, which results in an increased surface hydrophobicity of the films. The structure and characteristics of these nanoisland film arrays are found to be quite comparable to those of nanoisland films prepared by vacuum evaporation method. However, this self-assembly/annealing protocol is simple and requires only common laboratory supplies and equipment for the entire preparation process.

The galvanostatic tests for corrosion protection are conducted at various applied current densities during 93,600 sec, and evaluated in terms of the variations in current density with time and in the potential at the applied current density. In addition, the corrosion damage depth is analyzed with 3D analysis optical microscope after galvanostatic tests. In this study, it was investigated to decide condition of the corrosion protection gavalnostatic method for Cu-Al alloy that has an excellent corrosion resistance. In the galvanostatic test under the cavitation environment, the energy was reflected or cancelled out by the collision with the oxygen gas generated by the oxygen reduction action. The surface observation showed neither the cavitation damage nor the electrochemical damage in the current density over 0.01 $A/cm^2$ in the dynamic state under the cavitation environment.
Dynamic compaction of Aluminum powder using gas detonation forming technique was investigated. The experiments were carried out on four different conditions of total pre-detonation pressure. The effects of the initial powder mass and grain particle size on the green density and strength of compacted specimens were investigated. The relationships between the mentioned powder design parameters and the final features of specimens were characterized using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models using the Group Method of Data Handling (GMDH) algorithm were also developed to predict the green density and green strength of compacted specimens. Furthermore, the desirability function was employed for multi-objective optimization purposes. The obtained optimal solutions were verified with three new experiments and ANN models. The obtained experimental results corresponding to the best optimal setting with the desirability of 1 are 2714 kg·m-3 and 21.5 MPa for the green density and green strength, respectively, which are very close to the predicted values.
