치아회분과 석고혼합제제 매식후 Digital Subtraction Radiography에 의한 골량 변화의 평가 (Evaluation of Bone Change by Digital Subtraction Radiography after Implantation of Tooth Ash-plaster Mixture)

  • Purpose : To assess the methods for the clinical evaluation of the longitudinal bone changes after implantation of tooth ash-plaster mixture into the defect area of human jaws. Materials and methods : Tooth ash-plaster mixtures were implanted into the defects of 8 human jaws. 48 intraoral radiograms taken with copper step wedge as reference at soon, 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th week after implantation of mixture were used. X-ray taking was standardized by using Rinn XCP device customized directly to the individual dentition with resin bite block. The images inputted by Quick scanner were digitized and analyzed by NIH image program. Cu­equivalent values were measured at the implanted sites from the periodic digital images. Analysis was performed by the bidirectional subtraction with color enhancement and the surface plot of resliced contiguous image. The obtained results by the two methods were compared with Cu­equivalent value changes. Results : The average determination coefficient of Cu-equivalent equations was 0.9988 and the coefficient of variation of measured Cu values ranged from 0.08~0.10. The coefficient of variation of Cu-equivalent values measured at the areas of the mixture and the bone by the conversion equation ranged from 0.06 ~0.09. The analyzed results by the bidirectional subtraction with color enhancement were coincident with the changes of Cu-equivalent values. The surface plot of the resliced contiguous image showed the three dimensional view of the longitudinal bone changes on one image and also coincident with Cu-equivalent value changes after implantation. Conclusion : The bidirectional subtraction with color enhancement and the surface plot of the resliced contiguous image was very effective and reasonable to analyze clinically and qualitatively the longitudinal bone change. These methods are expected to be applicable to the non-destructive test in other fields.

Effect of acidic beverages on surface roughness and color stability of artificial teeth and acrylic resin

  • PURPOSE. The aim was to evaluate the effect of four acidic beverages on the roughness (Ra) and color change (ΔEab) of two brands of artificial teeth and a heat-polymerized acrylic resin (HPAR) for use in a prosthetic base. MATERIALS AND METHODS. All materials were divided into 5 groups, according to the used acidic beverage (artificial saliva - control, red wine, orange juice, coke-based, and lemon juice-based soft drink). The immersion process was divided into two stages: T1 - immersion in the acidic solutions for 10 minutes for 14 days; T2 - after T1, the samples were immersed in grape juice for 14 days. The Ra of the samples was evaluated in a rugosimeter and the ΔEab in a spectrophotometer, before and after the immersions. The analysis of variance of one (ΔEab) and two factors (Ra) and Tukey were performed (α=.05). RESULTS. There was a statistical difference for roughness after immersion (T1) for Trilux and Tritone teeth, regardless of the acid solution. For Trilux teeth, all acid solutions increased Ra (P<.05). For Tritone teeth, only the coke-based soft drink did not statistically change Ra. Grape juice (T2) altered Ra only of artificial teeth (P<.05). The color was changed for all materials, after T1 and T2. CONCLUSION. In general, the acidic solutions changed the Ra and ΔEab of HPAR and artificial teeth after T1. The grape juice altered the roughness only of the artificial teeth, promoting a clinically acceptable color change in the materials.

색조분석을 이용한 화재 피해 콘크리트의 건전도 평가 (Assessment of fire damaged concrete using colour image analysis)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relation between color change and residual compressive strength in concrete exposed to high temperature. In order to study the color image analysis, the specimens have been tested with variables of concrete strengths (20Mpa, 40Mpa, 60Mpa) in transient heating conditions($800^{\circ}C$ heating and 4 hour preservation). The results show that the residual strength of specimens are coincident with the full development of the pink/red color and the method may be used to define the distance from a heated surface where strength degradation has occurred.

m-Aramid Films in Diverse Coagulants

  • m-Aramid dissolved in N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc), were coagulated in different coagulants such as water, methanol, ethanol, propanol and butanol. Various concentrations and temperatures of the coagulants were also used to evaluate dyeing properties of coagulated m-aramid films. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was employed to investigate the surface morphology of m-aramid films. Wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) was conducted in order to measure crystallinity change of mcaramid fibers and films. WAXD patterns showed that crystallinity of m-aramid fibers was reduced after film formation. In addition, color depth (K/S value) was measured and the results revealed that the film coagulated in water possessed fairly enhanced color depth.

  • Simultaneous measurement technique for temperature and velocity fields near a heated solid body has been constructed. The measurement system consists of a 3-late CCD color camera, a color image grabber, a 1ighting system, a host computer and a software for the whole quantification process. Thermo Chromic Liquid Crystals (TCLC) was used as temperature sensors. A neural network was used to get a calibration curve between the temperature and the color change of the TCLC in order to enhance the dynamic range of temperature measurement. The velocity field measurement was attained by the use of the fray-level images taken for the flow field, and by introducing the cross-correlation technique. The temperature and the velocity fields of the forced and the natural convective flows neat the surface of a cartridge heater were measured simultaneously with the constructed measurement system.

Segmentation and estimation of surfaces from statistical probability of texture features

  • This paper presents an approach to segment an image into areas of surfaces, and to compute the surface properties from a gray-scale image in order to describe the surfaces for reconstruction of the 3-D shape of the objects. In general, an rigid body has several surfaces and many edges. But if it is not polyhedoron, it is necessary not only to describe the relation between surfaces, i.e. its line drawings but also to represent the surfaces' equations itself. In order to compute the surfaces' equation we use a probability of edge distribution. At first it is extracted edges from a gray-level image as much as possible. These are not only the points that maximize the change of an image intensuty but candidates which can be seemed to be edges. Next, other character of a surface (color, coordinates and image intensity) are extracted. In our study, we call the all feature of a surface as "texture", for example color, intensity level, orientation of an edge, shape of a surface and so on. These features of a surface on a pixel of an image plane are mapped to a point of the feature space, and segmented to each groups by cluster analysis on this space. These groups are considered to represent object surface in an image plane. Finally, the states of object surface in 3-D space are computed from distributional probability of local and overall statistical features of a surface, and from shape of a surface.a surface.

Effect of Various Packaging Methods on Small-Scale Hanwoo (Korean Native Cattle) during Refrigerated Storage

  • The objective of this study was to investigate comparison of physicochemical, microbiological, and sensory characteristics of Hanwoo eye of round by various packaging methods [wrapped packaging (WP), modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), vacuum packaging (VP) with three different vacuum films, and vacuum skin packaging (VSP)] at a small scale. Packaged Hanwoo beef samples were stored in refrigerated conditions ($4{\pm}1^{\circ}C$) for 28 days. Packaged beef was sampled on days 0, 7, 14, 21, and 28. Physicochemical [pH, surface color, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), and volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) values], microbiological, and sensory analysis of packaged beef samples were performed. VP and VSP samples showed low TBARS and VBN values, and pH and surface color did not change substantially during the 28-day period. For VSP, total viable bacteria, psychrotrophic bacteria, lactic acid bacteria, and coliform counts were lower than those for other packaging systems. Salmonella spp. and Escherichia coli O157:H7 were not detected in any packaged beef samples. A sensory analysis showed that the scores for appearance, flavor, color, and overall acceptability did not change significantly until day 7. In total, VSP was effective with respect to significantly higher $a^*$ values, physicochemical stability, and microbial safety in Hanwoo packaging (p<0.05).

포장된 전통 된장 및 고추장의 저장 중 $CO_2$ 발생과 특성변화 (Carbon Dioxide Production and Quality Changes in Korean Fermented Soybean Paste and Hot Pepper-Soybean Paste)

  • One hundred fifty grams of Korean fermented soybean paste and hot pepper-soybean paste were packaged in glass jar of 232 mL and Sotred at 5, 13, 22 and 30℃. During the storage, the changes in their microbial flora and quality attributes were monitored. Carbon dioxide production rate from the stored pastes were also determined from initial change of CO₂concentration in headspace of the pack. Hot pepper-soybean pate showed much higher CO₂ production rate higher dependence of CO₂ production on temperature compared to soybean paste. Total aerobic bacteria count and lactic acid bacteria count did not change significantly through the storage. Yeast count in soybean paste decreased slowly after initial uprise while that of hot pepper-soybean paste steadily decreased. Surface color of hot pepper paste changed to dark red with slight decrease in 'L' value and slight increase in 'a' and 'b' values, whereas any significant color change was not observed in soy paste. Titratable acidity increased with time with higher increase in soybean paste, but pH stayed at constant level for both pastes. All the rates of quality change were higher with higher temperature. Pressure buildup due to CO₂ production needs to be considered first in designing the packages of the fermented pastes before their color changes and other chemical quality changes.

1890년${\sim}$1960년대 여자 저고리 감정 (The Appraisal of Female Jackets from the Period of $1890s{\sim}1960s$)

  • Due to the inflow of the western culture since the 19th century, female skirts and jackets have been changed considerably in detail though their basic composition was maintained. The analysis on female jackets from the start of the modern period to 1960s has been undertaken with artefacts as well as reports and research dissertations related to them. For period appraisal, analysis was divided into several periods which are from 1890s to 1910s, and every 10 years afterwards. As a result, aspects for the appraisal in each period was found. Aspects for period appraisal in modern jackets can be a change in total length and side length, a change in shape of the sleeves (from straight to round), a change in width, and a difference in closed shape of the collars. Material and color can be another aspect which shows fashionable material or new materials (man-made textile or nylon) of each period, color combination of surface and lining material as well as other parts of the jacket, use of a stiffener made with net or sheer textiles. Research using books and archives is important for the appraisal of the garment artifact. However, most of all, one should have the attitude of examining the artifacts frequently in order to achieve deeper understanding and an eye for accurate appraisal.

갈색 Type I 다이아몬드의 고압 열처리에 따른 표면 흑연화 생성 연구 (Surface Graphite Formation of the Brown Colored Type I Diamonds During High Pressure Annealing)

  • We investigated color and graphite layer formation on the surface of Type I tinted brown diamonds exposed for 5 minutes under a high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) condition in a stable graphite regime. We executed the HPHT processes of Process I, varying the temperature from $1600^{\circ}C$ to $2300^{\circ}C$ under 5.2 GPa pressure for 5 minutes, and Process II, varying the pressure from 4.2 to 5.7 GPa at $2150^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes. Optical microscopy and micro-Raman spectroscopy were used to check the microstructure and surface layer phase evolution. For Process I, we observed a color change to vivid yellow and greenish yellow and the growth of a graphite layer as the temperature increased. For Process II, the graphite layer thickness increased as the pressure decreased. We also confirmed by 531 nm micro-Raman spectroscopy that all diamonds showed a $1440cm^{-1}$ characteristic peak, which remained even after HPHT annealing. The results implied that HPHT-treated colored diamonds can be distinguished from natural stones by checking for the existence of the $1440cm^{-1}$ peak with 531 nm micro-Raman spectroscopy.
