We have determined the orientational distribution functions (OBFs) at both air and substrate isotropic interfaces of a chiral chitosan bio-polymer film by the measurements of surface second-harmonic generation (SHG). It was shown that the simultaneous SHG analysis of both interfaces, based on the macroscopic and microscopic relations, provides all the informations on the nonlinear optical (NLO) activity.
Tribological conditions and additive chemistry between frictional Interfaces were discussed in the present paper. The principles of the tribochemical surface modification were drawn on the basis of data of literatures and experiments. Results of gear tests proved experimentally that the principles would have potential applications in industry.
Prestack depth migration is used to image for complex geological structure such as faults, folds, and subsalt. In this case, it is widely used the surface reflection data as a input data. However, the surface reflection data have intrinsic problems to image the subsalt and the salt flank due to the complex wavefields and multiples which come from overburden. For overcoming the structural defect of the surface reflection data in the imaging, I used the virtual sources in terms of seismic interferometry to image the subsurface and suppress the multiples using the velocity model of the lower part of the virtual sources. The results of the prestack depth migration using virtual source gathers and velocity model below receivers are similar geological interfaces to the results from shot gathers of the conventional ocean bottom seismic survey. And especially artificial interfaces by multiples were suppressed without applying any other data processing to eliminate multiples. This study results by numerical modeling can make a valuable imaging tool when it is applied to satisfied field data for specific condition.
Copper-based leadframe sheets were oxidized in a hot alkaline solution to form brown-oxide layer on the surface and molded with epoxy molding compound (EMC). The brown-oxide-coated leadframe/EMC joints were machined to form sandwiched double-cantilever beam (SDCB) specimens and sandwiched Brazil-nut (SBN) specimens for the purpose of measuring the fracture toughness of leadframe/EMC interfaces. The SDCB and the SBN specimens were designed to measure the fracture toughness of the leadframe/EMC interfaces under nearly mode-I loading and mixed-mode (mode I + mode II) loading conditions, respectively. Fracture surfaces were analyzed by various equipment such as glancing-angle XRD, SEM, AES, EDS and AFM to elucidate failure path. Results showed that failure occurred irregularly in the SDCB specimens, and oxidation time of 2 minutes divided the types of irregular failures into two classes. The failure in the SBN specimens was quite different from that in the SDCB specimens. The failure path in the SBN specimens was not dependent on the phase angle as well as the distance from tips of pre-cracks.
In this paper, we report on a study of the electrode/electrolyte interfaces of MCMB/$LiCoO_2$ cell using Ion-chromatography. The cells for the experiments were preconditioned by cycling three times and stabilized at OCV of 3.0V 4.35V and 4.5V. The stabilized cathode electrode was used for surface characterization investigations. Concerning the $LiCoO_2$/electrolyte interfaces, the result obtained have shown the presence of $F^-\;and\;CO_3^{2-}$ on the surface of cathode electrode as well as increasing the concentration of ions as cell voltage increase.
This review article described the electrochemical Frumkin, Langmuir, and Temkin adsorption isotherms of over-potentially deposited hydrogen (OPD H) and deuterium (OPD D) for the cathodic $H_2$ and $D_2$ evolution reactions (HER, DER) at Pt, Ir, Pt-Ir alloy, Pd, Au, and Re/normal ($H_2O$) and heavy water ($D_2O$) solution interfaces. The Frumkin, Langmuir, and Temkin adsorption isotherms of intermediates (OPD H, OPD D, etc.) for sequential reactions (HER, DER, etc.) at electrode/solution interfaces are determined using the phase-shift method and correlation constants, which have been suggested and developed by Chun et al. The basic procedure of the phase-shift method, the Frumkin, Langmuir, and Temkin adsorption isotherms of OPD H and OPD D and related electrode kinetic and thermodynamic parameters, i.e., the fractional surface coverage ($0{\leq}{\theta}{\leq}1$) vs. potential (E) behavior (${\theta}$ vs. E), equilibrium constant (K), interaction parameter (g), standard Gibbs energy (${\Delta}G_{\theta}{^{\circ}}$) of adsorption, and rate (r) of change of ${\Delta}G_{\theta}{^{\circ}}$ with ${\theta}$ ($0{\leq}{\theta}{\leq}1$), at the interfaces are briefly interpreted and summarized. The phase-shift method and correlation constants are useful and effective techniques to determine the Frumkin, Langmuir, and Temkin adsorption isotherms and related electrode kinetic and thermodynamic parameters (${\theta}$ vs. E, K, g, ${\Delta}G_{\theta}{^{\circ}}$, r) at electrode/solution interfaces.
Recently as the micro surface features become higher and diverse in their shapes, the releasing of the molded features becomes more crucial for manufacturing of the micro patterned products. The higher aspect ratio of the features or more complex shape of the features results in larger releasing force, elongation or cohesive failure of the features during the releasing. Another issue would be the uniformity of the released surface features after molding, especially for applications with large area surface. The micro patterned optical film, one of typical applications for micro surface features, consists of two layers, the thermoplastic base film and the micro formed UV resin layer. Therefore two interfaces are typically involved during the forming of this micro featured film; one is between the base film and the UV resin and another is between the resin and the pattern master. To improve the releasing of the molded surface features, the adhesive characteristic was investigated at these two interfaces. A PET film was used as a base film and two UV curable resins with different surface energy were prepared for different adhesiveness. Also the two different pattern masters were employed; one is made from brass-copper alloy and fabricated with PMMA. The adhesiveness at each interface was measured for some combinations of these base film, UV resins and the masters and the effect of this adhesiveness on the releasing was investigated.
An approach is developed for parametric investigation of the influence of the surface roughness on thermohydrodynamic analysis with film conditions which systemically occur in journal bearings. A parametric investigation is performed for predicting the bearing behaviors such as pressure and temperature distributions in lubricating films between the stationary and moving surfaces determined by absorbed layers and interfaces on the statistical method for rough surface with Gaussian distribution. The layers expressing the effects of surface roughness are expressed as functions of the standard deviations (${\sigma}$) of each surface and surface orientation (j) to explain the flow patterns between both rough surfaces. The coupled effect of surface roughness and shear zone dependency on hydrodynamic pressure and temperature has been found by solving the present model in non-contact mode and contact mode, respectively.
