  • Surface roughness is one of the most important parameters to estimate quality of products. As this reason so many studies were car-ried out through various attempts that were contact or non-contact using computer vision. Even through these efforts there were few good results in this research., however texture analysis making a important role to solve these problems in various fields including universe aviation living thing and fibers. In this study feature value of co-occurrence matrix was calculated by statistic method and roughness value of worked surface was classified, of it. Experiment was carried out using input vector of neural network with characteristic value of texture calculated from worked surface image. It's found that recognition rate of 74% was obtained when adapting texture features. In order to enhance recogni-tion rate combination type in characteristics value of texture was changed into input vector. As a result high recognition rate of 92.6% was obtained through these processes.

  • Magnetron and Ion beam sputtering were used to texture the air-bearing surface of magnetic recording sliders. Flying height measurements and Laser-Doppler interferometry were used to compare the 'flyability' of textured and untextured sliders. Lubricant redistribution on the disk surface caused by slider/disk interactions was investigated using scanning ellipsometry (Surface Reflectance Analyzer (SRA)). The results show that slider surface texture causes only small changes in the flying height of sliders but reduces slider in-plane and out-of-plane vibrations. Textured sliders were found to cause less lubricant depletion on the disk surface than untextured sliders.

  • surface texture denotes set of tiny repetitive geometric features on an object surface. 3D Printing can readily create a surface of controlled macro-textures of high geometric complexity. Designing surface textures for 3D Printing, however, is difficult due to complex macro-structure of the tiny texture geometry since it needs to be compatible with the non-traditioal manufacturing method. In this paper we propose a visual simulation technique involving development of a virtual model-an intermediate geometric model-of the surface texture design prior to fabricating the physical model. Careful examination of the virtual model before the actual fabrication can help minimize unwanted design iterations. The proposed technique demonstrated visualization capability by comparing the virtual model with the physical model for several test cases.

  • Various parameters are involved in the frictional behavior of steel sheet during stamping. We performed various tests in order to investigate the influence of tool surface texture directionality upon the resulting friction in sheet forming processes. Four different tools were manufactured which gave us a range of roughness for both parallel and transverse texture directions. Each of the tools was examined in flat type friction tests under identical test conditions. The tool with the transverse surface texture produces significantly lower levels of friction than the tool with parallel texture direction. Considering the lubrication mechanism associated with transverse texture, one can imagine the lubricant being constantly supplied from the reservoir of the micro valley to the point of contact and hence producing the lower levels of friction seen.

  • In order to present a space in details, it is indispensable to acquire 3D shape and texture simultaneously from the same platform. 3D shape is acquired by Laser Scanner as point cloud data, and texture is acquired by CCD sensor. Positioning data is acquired by IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit). All the sensors and equipments are assembled on a hand-trolley. In this research, a method of integrating the 3D shape and texture for automated construction of Digital Surface Model is developed. This Digital Surface Model is applied for efficient feature extraction. More detailed extraction is possible , because 3D Digital Surface Model has both 3D shape and texture information.

  • A study has been made of preferred orientation, crose sectional microstructure, surface morphology and mechanical properties of copper foils fabricated by electrodeposition on 304 stainless steel plate from copper sulfate baths for high speed plating. The preferred orientation of the copper foils changed from the [110] to the [111] to ture with decreasing bath temperature and increasing cathode current density. The foils with the [110] texture had the field oriented texture type structure and the surface of many asperities grooved approximately perpendicular to the subtrate. A specimen with the [111]+[311] texture had the lower strength than one with the [10] texture, if they were obtained under similar electrolysis conditions.

  • Purpose: The net rind pattern and color of melon surface are important for a high market value of melon fruits. The development of the net and color are closely related to the changes in shape, size, and maturing. Therefore, the net and color characteristics can be used indicators for assessment of melon quality. The goal of this study was to investigate the possibility of estimating melon soluble solids content (SSC) and firmness by analyzing the net and color characteristics of fruit surface. Methods: The true color images of melon surface obtained at fruit equator were analyzed with 18 color features and 9 texture features. The partial least squares (PLS) method was used to estimate SSC and firmness in melons using their color and texture features. Results: In sensing melon SSC, the coefficients of determination of validation (${R_v}^2$) of the prediction models using the color and texture features were 0.84 (root mean square error of validation, RMSEV: 1.92 $^{\circ}Brix$) and 0.96 (RMSEV: 0.60 $^{\circ}Brix$), respectively. The ${R_v}^2$ values of the models for predicting melon firmness using the color and texture features were 0.64 (RMSEV: 4.62 N) and 0.79 (RMSEV: 2.99 N), respectively. Conclusions: In general, the texture features were more useful for estimating melon internal quality than the color features. However, to strengthen the usefulness of the color and texture features of melon surface for estimation of melon quality, additional experiments with more fruit samples need to be conducted.

  • It is known that fractal theory has recently been used as a useful in the characterization of surface texture and the understanding of tribological phenomena such as friction wear and lubrication The fractal based method for describing the rubbed surface texture has aroused great interest In this paper the fractal descriptors was applied to rubbed surface of hydraulic driving material with image processing system in order to describe morphology of the rubbed surface The results showed that the fractal dimension can be determined by sum of intensity difference of surface pixel. The two step size to get fractal dimension is similar to surface roughness Ra. Fractal dimensions of the rubbed surfaces increase with an increase of applied load Morphology of the rubbed surface driving in lubricant can be effectively obtained by fractal dimensions.

  • The texture of vapor deposits(PVD and CVD) changes from the orientation that places the lowest energy lattice plane parallel to the substrate under the condition of low atom or ion concentration adjacent to the deposit, to the orientation that places the higher energy crystal planes parallel to the substrate as the atom or ion concentration adjacent to the deposit increases. However, in the early stage of deposition, the deposit-substrate interface energy and the surface energy constitute the most important energies of the system. Therefore, if the lattice match is established between the substrate and the deposit without generating much strain energy, the epitaxial growth takes place to reduce the interfacial energy. When the epitaxial growth does not take place, the surface energy is dominant in the early stage of deposition and the lowest energy crystal plane tends to be placed parallel to the substrate up to a critial thickness. The thickness depends on the deposition condition. If the deposition condition does not favor placing the lowest energy crystal plane parallel to the substrate, the initial texture will change to that compatible with the deposition condition as the film thickness increases, and the texture turnover thickness will be short. The microstructure and surface topography of deposits are related to their texture.
