It was investigated that two rods of aluminium can be welded by hot extru-pressure welding method with stepped welding dies, and that the welding pressure on the welding surface were analyzed by computer simulation according to the stepped shapes of welding dies. It was known by computer simulation that welding pressure on the welding section of rods welded using stepped welding dies. And it was known by experime- nts that two rods of aluminium can be welded on the end sections by hot pressure welding method using stepped welding dies without relative rotational movement of contacted aluminium rods needed for the purpose of friction heating and pressure.

The Friction Stir Welding (FSW) has mainly been used for making butt joints in Al alloys. The development of Friction Stir Lap Welding (FSLW) would expand the number of applications. In this study, for effective application on thin aluminum alloy lap joint, non-heat treatment A5052 alloys were joined by FSLW with the length of probe 2.3 mm and 3.0 mm. Investigating the characteristics of joint area showed the results were as below ; When the length of probe was 2.3 mm, good joint area was formed at all welding condition except for 600 rpm-700 mm/min. In the case of 3.0 mm probe length, there was formed good joint area without defects at 1500 rpm-100 mm/min. The width of joint area, position and size of defects were very important factors for FSLW, due to heat input and stirring intensity.

The Friction Stir Welding (FSW) has mainly been used for making butt joints in Al alloys. Development of FSW would expand the number of applications. The FSW is a relatively solid-state joining process. This study possibility of a welding between C1020 and Al6063 by means of FSW has fundamentally clarified. The primary process parameters, such as a rotating speed, rotating direction of tool and off-set of pin periphery from materials interface were optimize, respectively.

This research is tendencious to manufacture solid piston-rod of shock absorber as hollow piston-rod using friction welding. The SM45C has been welded to the SM45C-pipe in order to investigate the effect of upset pressure on friction weldability. The friction time and upset pressure was variable conditions under the conditions of spindle revolution of 2,000rpm, friction pressure of 55MPa, and upset time of 2.0seconds. Under these conditions, the microstructure of weld interface, tensile fracture surface and mechanical tests were studied of friction weld, and so the results were as follows. When the upset pressure is sufficient, gets the high tensile strength. The optimal welding conditions were n=2,000rpm, $P_1$=55MPa, $P_2$=95MPa, $t_1$=1.5sec, $t_2$=2.0sec when the total upset length is 4.5mm.
A copper-tungsten sintered alloy(Cu-W) has been friction welded to a tough pitch copper in order to investigate the effect of friction pressure on bonding strength and a charicteristic of fracture. The tensile strength of the friction welded joint was increased up to 90% of the Cu base metal under the condition of friction time 1.2 sec, friction pressure 4.5kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$ and upset pressure 10kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$. From the results of fracture surface analysis, the increase of friction pressure could remarkably decrease the force and the time to be normally acted on weld interface. The W particles which were included in the plastic zone of Cu side could induce fracture adjacent to the weld interface because their existance in Cu induces a decrease in available section area and an increase in notch effect. Therefore, the tensile strength was decreased at high friction pressure (6kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$) because the destruction of W was increased by an increase in mechanical force and crack was formed at weld interface.

In this study, behavior of deformation and mechanical properties under static tensile load in friction welded dissimilar materials. and necking phenomenon occuring at yeilding point are shown. Behavior of Hv(Micro Vickers Hardness) is observed that the maximum value is occured near by the interface. and the minimum value is arised at the heat affected zone. Fracture occured at the minimu value of Hv of the heat affected zone is observed. The position of fracture surface is subjected to behavior of Hv. Yielding strength subjected to friction welding conditions, specially to upset pressure is shown.
Friction stir welding(FSW) was studied using commercial tool, FLOW-3D. The purpose of this study is to suggest a method to apply frictional heat in Computational fluid dynamics(CFD) analysis. Cylindrical tool shape was used, and the interface cells between tool surface and workpiece were tracked by its geometrical relations in order to consider the frictional heat in FSW. After tracking the interface cells, average area concept was used to calculate the frictional heat, which is related to interface area. Also three-dimensional heat source and visco-plastic flow were modeled. The frictional heat generation rate calculated numerically from the suggested algorithm was validated with the analytical solution. The numerical solution was well matched with the analytical solution, and the maximum percentage of error was around 3%.
In this paper, joints of Cu-1Cr-0.1Zr alloy to STS316L were performed by friction welding method. Particularly, Cu-1Cr-0.1Zr alloy is attractive candidate as nuclear power plant material and exibit the best combination of high strength and good electrical and thermal conductivity of any copper alloy examined. The stainless steel is a structural material while copper alloy acts as a heat sink material for the surface heat flux in the first wall. So, in this paper, not only the development of optimizing of friction welding with more reliability and more applicability but also the development of in-process real-time weld quality (such as strength and toughness) evaluation technique by acoustic emission for friction welding of such nuclear reactor component of Cu-1Cr-0.1Zr alloy to STS316L steel sere performed.

Various researches to reduce weight of a vehicle are achieving. One of these researches is tendencious to manufacture the hollow piston rod using friction welding instead of solid one of the vehicle shock absorber. This study deals with the friction welding of SM45C to SM20C-pipe that is used normally in the vehicle shock absorber. The friction time was variable conditions under the conditions of spindle revolution of 2,000rpm, friction pressure of 55MPa, upset pressure of 75MPa, and upset time of 2.0seconds. Under these conditions, the microstructure of weld interface, tensile fracture surface and mechanical tests of friction weld were studied and so the results were as follows. When the friction time was l.5seconds under the conditions, the maximum tensile strength of the friction weld happened to be 837MPa, which is 113% of SM20C's tensile strength and 97% of SM45C's. The optimal welding conditions were n=2,000rpm, $P_1=55MPa$, $P_2=75MPa$, $t_1=1.5sec$, $t_2=2.0sec$ when the total upset length is 1.7mm.
Magnesium alloys are becoming important material for light weight car body, due to their low specific density but high specific strength. However they have a poor weldability, caused high oxidization tendency and low vapor temperature. In this study, the welding performance of magnesium alloys was investigated for automobile application. The materials were rolled magnesium alloy sheet contains Al and Zn such as AZ3l , AZ6l and AZ9l. Three types of welding process were studied, that were GTAW, Laser beam welding and FSW. To evaluate the weldability, we examined the appearance of welding bead. Also we checked bead shape and internal defects such as crack and porosity on cross section of welding bead. The mechanical property was measured for welded specimen by tensile test. For determination of the strength change by welding process, the hardness profile across the welding center was measured. For the results, the tensile properties of welded specimen were decreased obviously on all welding process. For the fusion welding process such as GTAW and laser beam welding, the surface of the welding bead was covered with oxidized magnesium dust but it was removed by simple cleaning work as wipe-out with tissue. Also under cut, that caused vaporization of base metal was occurred. for the friction stir welding, there was no oxidation, under-cut or internal defects. However it had poor weld performance, the reason was cleavage fracture occurred at plastic deformation zone. For welding of magnesium alloy, the laser beam welding process was recommended.
