Flame stabilization conditions and combustion noise characteristics induced by premixed flames in sudden expansion channels were experimentally investigated. Nozzle size and channel scale were varied continuously, and variation of flame behaviors was examined. Combustion noise was observed at specific configurational conditions, and their mechanism was investigated. This study will help understand premixed flame instability at the burner surface.

The present study is concerned with the hydrostatic extrusion process of copper-clad aluminium bar to investigate the bonding conditions as well as the basic flow characteristics. Considering the bonding mechanism of bi-metal contact surface as cold pressure welding the normal pressure and the contact surface expansion are selected as process parameters governing the bonding conditions, in this study the critical normal pressure required for the local extrusion-the protrusion of virgin surfaces by the surface expansion at the interface-is obtained using a slip line method and is then used as a criteron for the bonding. A rigid plastic finite element method is used to analyze the steady state extrusion process. The interface profile of bi-metal rod is predicted by tracking the paths of two particles adja-process. The interface profile of bi-metal rod is predicted by tracking the paths of two particles adja-cent to interface surface. The contact surface area ration and the normal pressure along the interface are calculated and compared to the critical normal pressure to check bonding. It is found that the model predictions are generally in good agreement with the experimental observations. The compar-isons of the extrusion pressure and interface profile by the finite element with those by experi-ments are also given.

Die design to minimize the die wear in the cold forging process is very important as it reduce the production cost and the increase of the production rate. The quantitative estimation for the die wear is too hard because the prediction of the die wear is determined with many process variables. So, in this paper, the optimal shape of the backward extrusion punch is newly designed through the FE-analysis considering the surface expansion and Archard's wear model in order to reduce the rapid wear rate that is generated for the backward extrusion product exceeding the forming limit. The main shape variables of the backward extrusion punch are the flat, angle, and round of the punch nose part. As the flat and angle of the punch nose are larger, the surface expansion is reduced. and, the wear rate is decreased according to the reduction of the punch round. These results obtained through this study are applied to the real manufacturing process, it is implemented the reduction of the wear rate.

Die design to minimize the die wear in the cold forging process is very important as it reduce the production cost and the increase of the production rate. The quantitative estimation fur the die wear is too hard because the die wear is caused by many process variables. So, in this paper, the optimal shape of the backward extrusion punch is newly designed through the FE-analysis considering the surface expansion and Archard wear model in order to reduce the rapid wear rate that is generated for the backward extruded products exceeding the forming limit. The main shape variables of the backward extrusion punch are the flat diameter, angle, and round of the punch nose part. As the flat diameter and angle of the punch nose are larger, the surface expansion is reduced and the wear rate is decreased according to the reduction of the punch round. These results obtained through this study can be applied to the real manufacturing process.
The highly accurate laser holographic interferemotry method was used to determine in what way low-magnitude forces during maxillary expansion are transmitted to the entire maxillary complex and its surrounding structures. The experiments were carried out on a dryed human skull which had a perfectly preserved, normally aligned maxillary dental arch and intact alveolar process. The skull was fixed within a constructed metal frame which ensured maximal stability of the object. The optical equipment and the object were mounted on antivibration table. Interferograms were taken on the lateral and frontal sides of the maxillary complex, using the 10mW He-Ne laser and the double-exposure method. Analysis of the fringe pattern on the recorded object surface was performed by graphically determining the deformation curves related to the bony surface in selected horizontal and vertical planes. On the basis of this study, the following conclusions can be drawn: 1. The density of the interference fringes was gradually increased with the degree of expansion force. 2. Mechanical reactions on the maxillary complex, circummaxillary sutures, and surrounding bones were clearly visible, even with the lowest loading degree. 3. The amount of bone displacement was greater in application of the force after $90^{\circ}$ turn than in initial application of the same force. 4. The direction of interference fringes on the bony surface was similar at all loading degrees.
The air gap between the metal and mold, formed by shrinkage during solidification, causes surface and subsurface cracks in the continuous casting process. Molten crack on the surface might also occur due to improper heat transfer between them. In order to compensate the air gap in mold design, the thermal contraction is an essential factor. In this study, the thermal contraction and expansion behaviors were examined from the ($\alpha$ and pearlite)/${\gamma}$ to ${\gamma}$/$\delta$ transformations in continuous casting steels by the commercial dilatometer and the self- assembled dilatometer with laser distance measurement. It was found that the thermal contraction and expansion behaviors were very dependant on the phase transformation of the ${\gamma}$/$\delta$ as well as ($\alpha$ and pearlite)/${\gamma}$. The sudden volume change from $\delta$ to ${\gamma}$ which might cause cracks in the continuous casting process, was observed on cooling just below the melting temperature by the self-assembled dilatometer.

The aim of this study is to improve properties both glass transition temperature($T_g$) and coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) using epoxy/micro-nano alumina composites with adding glycerol diglycidyl ether (GDE:1,2,3,5g). This paper deals with the effects of GDE addition for epoxy/micro alumina contents (40, 50, 60wt%)+surface modified nano alumina(1_phr) composites. 20 kinds specimen were prepared with containing micro, nano alumina and GDE as a micro composites(10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70wt%) or a nano/micro alumina composites(1phr/40, 50, 60wt%). Average particle size of nano and micro alumina used were 30nm and $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$, respectively. The micro alumina used were alpha phase with Heterogeneous and nano alumina were gamma phase particles of spherical shape. The glass transition temperature and coefficients of thermal expansion was evaluated by DSC and TMA. The glass transition temperature decreased and coefficients of thermal expansion become smaller with filled contents of epoxy/micro alumina composites. On the other hand, $T_g$ and CTE as GDE addition variation(1,2,3,5g) of epoxy/micro-nano alumina composites decreased and increased respectively.
The meteorological elements were measured to investigate cause of summertime ice formation at Unchiri, Gangwon Province. The cause of freezing at valley was conformed as adiabatic expansion theory, latent heat of evaporation, natural convective theory, cold air remain theory, and convective freezing theory according to former study. However nither theory produced a satisfactory explanation. This studying area is not valley but ridge, and underground water surface exists at below than freezing height. wintertime temperature drop and summertime cold air spouting were explain as natural convective theory, generation of water drop on the rock was explained as cooling theory by air expansion, and ice formation on the rock was explained as adiabatic expansion theory. In conclusion, formation of ice valley at Unchiri was formed by natural convective theory, adiabatic expansion theory, and latent heat of evaporation successively.
A method is developed to include the effect of volume expansion in the description of the flame dynamics using G-equation. Line volume-source is used to represent the effect of the exothermic process of combustion with source strength determined by the density difference between the burned and the unburned region. Volume expansion adjusts the flow field to accommodate the increased volume flow rate crossing the flame front. Test result predicted the measured velocity field qualitatively. The method was applied to study the interaction of vortex and premixed flame. Increased volume expansion did not change the initial growth rate of flame area. However, the residence time and flame surface area increased with higher expansion ratios.
Leading edge thrust is generally caused by passing air flow from lower to upper surface and it is required to have sufficient angle of attack for notable leading edge thrust. To produce leading edge thrust at low angle of attack, utilizing expansion wave accompanying low pressure is able to be a solution. Fore structure changes the direction of flow, and this flow passes the projected edge. As a result, from a perspective of the edge, it is able to have high angle of attack, and artificial expansion wave is generated. This concept shows 9.48% increase of L/D in inviscid flow, at Mach number 1.3 and angle of attack $1^{\circ}$ in maximum, and this model shows the 3.98% of increasement at angle of attack $2^{\circ}$. Although advantage of the artificial expansion wave decreased as angle of attack increase, it shows the possibility of aerodynamical improvement with artificial expansion wave.
