  • The use of autopolymerizing-cured resin and light-cured resin for direct introral relining of complete and partial dentures has been popular. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the surface characteristics of autopolymerizing-cured reline resins(Tokuso rebase, Mild rebaron, Meta base) and light-cured reline resin(Mild rebaron LC). Acrylic resin slab specimens(1.0cm in diameter at the bottom, and 0.3cm high) were made against glass according to the instructions of the manufacturer following normal procedures for each of direct reline resins and examined the surface characteristics by use of surface profilometer and the other specimens which were made intraorally for each of direct reline resins were examined by use of scanning electron microscopy. The results were as follows : 1. Each surface roughness(Rz) of hard relin resins was $0.14{\pm}0.04{\mu}m$ in Tokuso rebase, $0.37{\pm}0.11{\mu}m$ in Mild Rebaron, $0.79{\pm}0.44{\mu}m$ in Mild Rebaron LC, $6.36{\pm}3.40{\mu}m$ in Meta base. There were significant differences between the surface roughness of Meta base and those of other reline resins(p<0.05) 2. The generation of porosity was the most in Tokuso Rebase and followed by Meta base, Mild Rebaron and Mild Rebaron LC in the order respectively. 3. Light-cured reline resin(Mild rebaron LC) was denser in surface than any other autopolymerizing-cured reline resins. Tokuso rebase and Mild rebaron was denser than Meta base. Conclusively, light-cured reline resin(Mild rebaron LC) had less porosity and better surface density than any other autopolymerizing-cured reline resins.

  • The first visual contact in architecture happens in surface, and it could be significant object as well as the starting point to recognize the essence and perceive the buildings. Architecture surface could not get out of the restriction of structures and materials that support buildings for a long time in the past. Architecture surface in the past should fulfill the structural role to form are appearance of buildings and support buildings at the same time, so it was difficult to get out of logic for material and thickness of walls, arrangements and sizes of windows. However, since the modern age, architecture surface came to be freer according to the development of building technology, and development of technology changes shows tendencies to express role of new design factor as an architectural element emphasized expression and autonomy,s which was escaped from the subordinate relationship that the surface of building must do the structural function. In this study, it would be examined the expressive characteristics of various epidermis that are expressed in architecture of Herzog & de Meuron since the end of 20thcentury focused on comprehended and analyzed results of changes and characteristics of contemporary society. Through this, it would be comprehended the epidermis of architecture that has particular character expressed in modern buildings of Herzog & de Meuron, and it would be composed a certain linkage between this and characteristics of contemporary society and it would be investigated that the establishing process of inner spaces. Identification through case analysis for this would perform a role of catalyst for the new possibility and development of contemporary architecture's surface expression in the future.

  • In this work, the surface modification of carbon/epoxy composites was investigated using UV (ultraviolet ray) surface treatment to increase adhesion strength between the carbon/epoxy composites and adhesives. After UV surface treatment, XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) tests were performed to analyze the surface characteristics of the carbon/epoxy composites. Comparing adhesion strengths with the surface characteristics, the effects of the surface modification of carbon/epoxy composites by UV surface treatments on the adhesion strengths were investigated.

  • Thermal decomposition of hydrated surface layer of $Mg(OH)_2$ at $500^{\circ}C$ in vacuum turned non-porous MgO into porous one with high surface area of around $270 m^2$/g. Most of its surface area, 74 %, was from micropores, and rest of it was from mesopores in wedge-shaped slits, exhibiting bimodal size distribution centered around 30 and 90${\AA}$. Rehydration followed by subsequent dehydration at $300 ^{\circ}C$ in dynamic vacuum further raised the surface area to 340 $m^2$/g. Fraction of microporous surface area was increased to 93%, and the shape of the mesopores was modified into parallel slits with a specific dimension of 32 ${\AA}$. Application of $Fe_2O_3$ over MgO via iron complex formation did not alter the pore characteristics of MgO core, except slightly increased pore dimension. Over the course of the modification, $Fe_2O_3$ stayed on the surface possibly via spill-over reaction.

  • Surface roughness of cold rolled steel sheet as well as the coating technique itself is quite important in obtaining high image clarity of electronic products and car outer panels. Especially, surface characteristics of steel sheet have acquired increasing attention from the steel and automotive industries. While the influence of such characteristics on paintability formability and painted surface appearance is important in defining steel surface requirements for automotive industries. Therefore this paper is dedicated primarily to the issue of paint appearance and reviews for improvement of roughness and peak count about the surface of work roll for the actual temper mill. The conclusions were obtained as follows ; 1) Roughness and peak count about the surface of steel sheet is strongly affected by surface condition of work roll. 2) The electro-discharge textured roll has more uniform roughness distribution than shot blasted roll and it's painted appearance of steel sheet has more improvement than that of the shot blasted because it has more harmonic wave roughness, and the higher peak count of surface roughness.

  • Structures, fabrication, and characteristics of top-surface-emitting GaAs four quantum well microlaser are described. The microlasers have good room-temperautre CW characteristivs. The maximum CW laser output is >3mW from a 30 $\mu\textrm{m}$ diameter microlaser and the maximum differential quantum efficiency is >70% from a 10 $\mu\textrm{m}$ diameter microlaser. Active surface emitting laser logic devices are designed and fabricated as a discrete version of a top-surface-emitting laser and heterojunction phototransistor. The active surface emitting laser logic device have high optical gain (>20 overall, >200 differential) and very high on/off ratio. Two-dimensional arrays of top-surface-emitting microlasers and active surface emitting laser logic devices will be critical elements for optical computing, photonic switching and neural network applications.
