모래다짐말뚝과 널말뚝으로 처리된 연약점토지반의 거동 (Behavior of Soft Ground Treated with Sand Compaction Piles and Sheet Piles)

  • Centrifuge model experiments were performed to investigate the confining effects of the sheet piles, installed to the sides of soft clay ground treated with sand compaction piles, on the bearing capacity and concentration ratio of composite ground. For the given g-level in the centrifuge model tests, replacement ratio of SCP and the width of surcharge loads on the surface of ground with SCP, the confining effects of installing the sheet piles on the edges of SCP ground on the bearing capacity, change of stress concentration ratio and failure mechanism were investigated. Kaolin, one of typical clay mineral, and Jumunjin standard sand were used as a soft clay ground and sand compaction pile irrespectively. As results of experiments, lateral confining effect by inserting the model sheet piles fixed to the loading plate was observed. For the strip surcharge loading condition, the yielding stress intensity in the form of the strip surcharge loads tends to increase with increasing the embedded depth of sheet piles. The stress concentration ratio was found not to be influenced consistently with the embedded depth of sheet piles whereas the effect of stress intensity on stress concentration ratio shows the general trend that values of stress concentration ratio are relatively high at the initial stage of loading and tend to decrease and converge to the certain values. For the failure mechanism in the case of reinforced with sheet piles, displacement behavior related to the punching failure, settlement right beneath the loading plate occurred since the soil was confined with sheet piles, was observed.

석션드레인공법을 적용한 연약지반의 침하 특성 (Settlement Characteristics of Soft Ground Applying the Suction Drain Method)

  • 기존 성토재하 방식의 연약지반 개량공법에서 제기된 여러 가지 문제에 의해 진공압 재하방식의 개량공법이 개발되었으며, 국내 적용사례가 증가하고 있다. 현장에서의 침하관리시 동일한 하중을 재하하였을 경우의 진공압재하공법과 성토재하공법에 대한 침하량 비교 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 두 공법의 발생침하량에 관한 이론 및 사례 연구를 수행하였다. 그 결과 연약지반 개량을 위해 진공압이 적용되면 내향의 수평변위가 발생하고 동일한 하중재하 대비 침하량이 감소하였다. Hooke의 탄성이론을 바탕으로 한 경우 0.54~0.67, 국내 설계기준에서는 0.50~0.75, 과거 국내 시공사례를 바탕으로 한 경우 0.91, 실내시험을 바탕으로 한 경우 0.81, 탄성론과 체적압축계수법을 바탕으로 한 경우 0.75, 최근 국내 대심도 시공 사례의 경우 0.77~0.93의 범위를 보이는 것으로 나타났다.

화력발전소 매립석탄회를 이용한 성토용 인공골재 개발 연구 (A study on development of artificial aggregates for embankment using reclaimed coal ash from thermoelectric power station)

  • The use of the coal ash for surcharge material, in a view of the environmental aspect, can decrease amount of the reclamation through recycling waste materials as well as prevent a destruction of the ecosystem attributed to sand picking. In addition, it can reduce both unit cost of material and construction expenses. In this study, new construction material as alternative surcharge material using coal ash, which is by-product from thermoelectric power plant, were developed. Mixing ratios of fly ash and bottom ash derived from the coal ash in Samchunpo thermoelectric power plants were determined. Furthermore, mixing conditions depending on the ratios of the cement and gypsum used for chemical additive were determined too. Uniaxial compression strength tests were conducted at different mixing conditions and Design graph of optimum mixing ratio at each required strength for economic efficiency is indicated in this paper.

Pullout resistance of treadmats for reinforced soil structures

  • A series of pullout tests were carried out on waste tire treadmats of various weave arrangements, with confining stresses ranging from 9 to 59 kPa approximately, in order to investigate the pullout behavior and to apply the results to the design of treadmat reinforced soil structures. A treadmat reinforcement can be considered as belonging to the extensible type thus progressive failure would develop in every tread. The pullout capacity of a treadmat was found to be generally equal to the sum of capacities of the longitudinal treads, with minor enhancement realized due to the presence of transverse treads. Pullout failures occurred in treadmats under light surcharge and with treadmats with higher material presence per unit area, while breakage failures occurred in treadmats under heavier surcharge and with treadmats with higher ratio of opening. The pullout capacity of a treadmat increased with increasing surcharge height and treadmat stiffness. A pullout test on a commercially available geogrid was also carried out for comparison and the pullout capacity of a treadmat was found higher than that of the comparable geogrid under identical loading conditions, indicating the merit of using the treadmat as an alternative to the chosen geogrid.

  • The construction of container terminal at Brani, Singapore required the improvement of soft clay layer having the thickness of about 6.5m, average moisture content of 79.4%, liquid limit of 90.4%, plastic limit of 21.8%, field vane strength of 10 to 25 KPa, pre-consolidation pressure of 225 to 60 KPa and compression index of 0.4 to 1.0. For the improvement of this layer, Colbon drains of 1.3m spacing in triangular pattern were installed to the bottom of the layer and surcharge of more than 11.25m high sand fill was later applied to the treated area. The settlement and lateral displacement of the ground were measured and the speed of surcharge filling was controlled, based on these readings. The removal of surcharge was determinied using the estimated time for the 90% degree of consolidation under the design pressure of 180KPa. The field and laboratory test results show that the soft clay layer has been improved substantially in its strength and consolidation characteristics: increase in strength of about 50KPa and pre-consolidation pressure and decrease in void ratio and compression index.

상재하중 변화에 따른 토목섬유 보강토옹벽의 벽체변위 (Wall Displacement of Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil Walls with Different Surcharge Loads - Model Test)

  • 본 연구에서는 보강토옹벽 상부에 재하된 상재하중 및 보강재 종류의 변화에 따른 토목섬유 보강토옹벽의 벽체 변위 특성을 평가하기 위하여 일련의 모형실험을 수행하였다. 모형 보강토옹벽은 높이${\times}$길이${\times}$폭이 $100cm{\times}140cm{\times}100cm$인 모형토조 내에 축조하였다. 모형 보강토옹벽 축조시 뒤채움흙으로는 통일분류법상 SM으로 분류될 수 있는 화강풍화토를 사용하였고, 보강재로는 인장강도 특성이 다른 3종류의 토목섬유(지오네트 한 종류 및 지오그리드 두 종류)를 사용하여 총 7종류의 모형 보강토옹벽에 대한 실험을 수행하였다. 모형 보강토옹벽 축조후 상재하중 재하에 따른 벽체 변위를 LVDT를 이용하여 측정하였다. 모형실험 결과, 토목섬유 보강토옹벽의 최대 수평변위는 벽체 저면에서부터 0.7H지점에서 발생하고, 그 크기는 보강재의 인장강도가 증가할 수록 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 상재하중이 증가할수록 토목섬유 보강으로 인한 벽체변위의 감소율은 감소하였다.

지표면 재하시 사질토 지반의 상대밀도에 따른 지중 연직응력분포 특성 (Characteristics of Vertical Stress Distribution in Soil according to the Relative Density of Sandy Soil in case of Surface Loading)

  • Model soil tank tests were conducted in sandy soil to investigate the effect of surcharge strip loads on vertical stress distribution in soil. A total number of 6 tests were performed using one loading plate and two relative density(55%, 65%). The soil was considered as an elastic material, while no friction was allowed between the wall and the soil. Measured stress values were compared to predictions defined by Frohlich, Boussinesq and Westergaard. The comparison of measured values and predictions used the ratio between the soil pressure and load value. Results of this study demonstrated that experimental values were generally larger than predictions. The Frohlich analysis provided the best prediction, while the Boussinesq analysis and Westergaard theory not presented a satisfactional result.

연악지반의 쇄석다짐말뚝에 대한 거동 분석 (I) (The Behavior of Rammed Aggregate Piers (RAP) in Soft Ground (I))

  • 쇄석다짐말뚝으로 보강된 연약지반 상 기초지반의 침하특성과 하중분담효과를 구명하기 위하여 말뚝과 지반의 경계면 조건, 치환율, 형상비 및 상재하중 등을 고려하여 말뚝의 입력물성치 산정을 위한 현장재하시험과 수치해석을 수행하였고 본 연구의 해석결과와 비교, 검증하기 위하여 현장원형(prototype)시험을 진행 중에 있다. 아울러 기존의 SCP에 대한 탄성 하중전이 이론을 보정하여 수정식을 제안하였다. 해석결과 연성기초에 설치된 쇄석다짐말뚝의 경우 강성기초와는 다르게 경계면 조건에 따라 크게 영향을 받으며 침하특성은 자유변형률(free strain)로 인하여 말뚝은 감소하고 주변지반은 증가하는 경향을 보였으며 응력집중비는 말뚝 하부로 내려감에 따라 증가하였다. 또한 치환율과 형상비 증가에 따라 최대 응력집중비가 증가하나 어느 한계 이상에서는 수렴되었고 고치환율과 긴 말뚝에서는 상재하중 증가에 따른 영향을 크게 받는 것으로 나타났다.

Physical and numerical modeling of drag load development on a model end-bearing pile

  • A centrifuge model study is carried out to investigate the behavior of pile subject to negative skin friction induced by pile installation, ground water drawdown and surcharge loading. A single end-bearing pile is examined as the induced negative skin friction would induce the most severe stress on the pile structural material as compared to friction piles. In addition, the behavior of the pile under simultaneous negative skin friction and dead/live loads is examined. To facilitate detailed interpretations of the test results, the model setup is extensively instrumented and involves elaborate test control schemes. To further examine the phenomenon of negative skin friction on an end-bearing pile, finite element analyses were conducted. The numerical analysis is first validated against the centrifuge test data and subsequently extended to examine the effects of pile slenderness ratio, surcharge intensity and pile-soil stiffness ratio on the degree of mobilization of negative skin friction induced on the pile. Finally experimental and numerical studies are conducted to examine the effect of applied transient live load on pile subject to negative skin friction.

군산점토의 2차압밀 감소를 위한 Surcharging 평가 (Evaluation of Surcharging to Reduce Secondary Consolidation for Kunsan Clay)

  • 연약지반에서의 건설은 각 단계별 정확한 침하량 예측이 중요하다. 특히, 최근 2차침하의 중요성이 강조되고 있다. 2차침하를 예측하고 조절하는 하나의 합리적인 접근방법으로서 2차침하 감소를 위한 surcharging 시험과 경험적인 $C_a$(2차압축지수)/ $C_c$(l차압축지수)비를 활용할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 군산지역의 연약지반에서 채취된 불교란 시료를 이용하여 단계압밀시험과 surcharging 시험을 수행하였다. 시험 결과 군산점토의 $C_a/C_c$ 값은 0.0329이며, 간극비 $-t/t_p$ 관계가 선형관계를 구해지므로 장기간 하중 조건에서 2차압축지수는 시간에 관계없이 일정한 것으로 볼 수 있었다. 또한 군산점토에 대해서는 전체 surcharge 비가 0.4이고 과잉간극수압 소산비가 80~100%일 때, 2차침하량을 효과적으로 감소시킬수 있는것으로 나타났다.
