  • The High Level Architecture(HLA) for modeling and simulation was developed as means of facilitating interoperability among simulations and promoting reuse of simulations and their components. The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary of the latest release of the HLA concept, supporting utilities and develop the prototyped Transportation Movement Management(TMM) federation. To obtain this goal, the Federation Development and Execution Process(FEDEP) is being applied to development of TMM federation will consist of three federates. This paper outlines the rationale of our approach, describes the application of the FEDEP in the development of the federation, and provides the current status of the federation development. The resulting federation shows complete interoperability among simulation components in the TMM federation and satisfactory simulation outputs. We present a description and process of the federation and the lessons learned with the process utilization for federation development and execution. Furthermore, the issues in establishing a HLA based federation across multiple legacy simulations are discussed.

  • High Altitude Platforms-craft maintaining stations in the stratosphere at altitudes of around 20 km-have been proposed as a means of supporting wireless telecommunications. They could exploit the best aspects of both terrestrial and satellite systems and support efficient frequency re-use plans. For solar powered platforms the power available for the downlink amplifiers may be minimal, particularly at night and/or higher latitudes. This paper discusses a novel type of link based on a modulated retro-directive transponder carried by the HAP. Relying chiefly on the ground station infrastructure, this would substantially reduce power consumption on the platform. We investigate the efficiency of the transponder aperture as a function of its area by developing general models for losses in the transmission lines which interconnect antenna pairs in the retro-directive array.

  • This paper presents a case study to investigate the monthly calculation method of ISO 13790 applied for a office building. The energy performance analysis according to improvement of insulation and air permeability of windows in K office buildings is investigated by means of building energy efficiency rating tool ($ECO_2-OD$). The K building energy system is tested experimently by the measurement of PMV(predicted mean vote) for the control of indoor thermal environment and heat transmission coefficient of windows and interior walls respectively, before and after the example K office building is remodeled passively. Therefore, Internet based energy assessment program of energy efficiency rating of office building can be applied as a program for the annual energy requirement and for evaluation of energy savings from the experimental and simulation results.

  • Telemedicine system means a remote support system among 4 remote telemedicine services of u-Health. A currently available service in Korea is the one checking and maintaining patient's status and supporting in emergency through video communication between an ambulance transferring patients and hospital under HSDPA and WiBro environment with coding of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. With that, this paper improves the stability of the current telemedicine system service of ambulance confirms the improvement compared to the old system by generating a system communicating by RTP/RTCP under coding process through H.264/AVC after converting RGB video to YUV in order to improve network efficiency.

  • The purpose of this paper is to suggest field-oriented policy of regional innovation support system. To accomplish this purpose, we examined the status quo of technical support, performance satisfaction of consumers and practical issues. The key factors influencing core technical innovation of small and medium firms are development fund, R&D employees, experimental instrument, technical information, protection of intellectual property, subcontracting and so on. To make sure of practical effect, therefore, it would rather necessary to implement policy support linking government and supporting means on the ground of needs of small and medium firms than specific method such as funding.

  • The seismic sequence which hit the Northern Italian territory in 2012 produced extensive damage to reinforced concrete (RC) precast buildings typically adopted as industrial facilities. The considered damaged buildings are constituted by one-storey precast structures with RC columns connected to the ground by means of isolated socket foundations. The roof structural layout is composed of pre-stressed RC beams supporting pre-stressed RC floor elements, both designed as simply supported beams. The observed damage pattern, already highlighted in previous earthquakes, is mainly related to insufficient connection strength and ductility or to the absence of mechanical devices, being the connections designed neglecting seismic loads or neglecting displacement and rotation compatibility between adjacent elements. Following the vulnerabilities emerged in past seismic events, the paper investigates the seismic performance of industrial facilities typical of the Italian territory. The European building code seismic assessment methodologies are presented and discussed, as well as the retrofit interventions required to achieve an appropriate level of seismic capacity. The assessment procedure and retrofit solutions are applied to a selected case study.

  • Design details pertaining to the connection between some recently developed fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite deck systems and the supporting girders require openings through cells of the deck. This significantly changes the stress distribution in these components. As a result, the conventional assumptions that deck designs are controlled by their stiffness, and not strength, needs a closer examination. This paper proposes an analytical method to investigate the stress states and failure mechanisms using a type of "global-local" modeling perspective, incorporating classical lamination theory and first ply failure criterion with use of appropriate stress concentration factors around the cutouts. The use of a "smeared-stress" approach is presented as a potential means of simplifying certain FRP specific complexities, while still enabling prediction of overall failure.

  • A lot of researches have been done on supporting QoS in the mobile networks and ad hoc network architectures, but most of them are not suitable in the static ad hoc environment. Most Research in mobile ad hoc networks has been devoted to routing protocol since they are fundamantal to the technology for improving QoS. In mobile ad hoc networks, QoS means not only fast speed and reliable transmission but reliable node. Needless to say, general QoS is serious question. In this paper, we enunciate the proposition to reduce network load and prevent node expire using buffer node.

  • In this paper we propose a novel mobile terminal software architecture supporting energy efficient handover operation in heterogeneous networks. Since the legacy proposals for L3 handover are mostly dependent on IETF Mobile IP which has some problems in movement detection mechanism and no considerations on nested heterogeneous network environment as a result they make serious overload on networks and terminals by performing unnecessary handover in such network environments. The proposed architecture has terminal-oriented network selection and switching architecture where a mobile terminal periodically monitors network status and selects the optimum network, and reduces energy consumption by making L3 handover of Mobile IP to the finally selected network. The network selection method first picks up some candidate networks by considering a terminal speed and power consumption estimation, and determines the final target handover network among the candidates after evaluating multiple factors including QoS required by a terminal, network status, user preference and terminal battery status. Finally we verify the functionality and performance of the energy efficient vertical handover architecture by means of adopting it into a real mobile terminal.
