PBL is a process and an effective educational tool that empower the student to be an active participant and emphasize a clinical context for learning, developing skills in working with a group, and encouraging self-directed study. The purpose of this study was to develop the PBL module based on lung cancer case, and to evaluate after implementation. The data on lung cancer patients at C university hospital in K city were collected from interviews and nursing records in June, 1999. A PBL module was developed including situation scenarios, timetable and tutor guide. PBL course was conducted at C university for short term period (3 days) in August, 2000. Fourteen nursing students at C college were participated in this study and they were divided into two small groups. I explained them about the PBL course through a preparatory meeting. At a stage of implementation, two groups went through the same process consisting of seven steps with group meetings and self-directed study. Their performances of identifying, stating problems and presenting referred resources were evaluated and supervised by researcher. The PBL course was evaluated by them with questionnaire and essay. Most students responded positively about PBL course and preferred the tutors in a supportive attitude. However, 3 days for PBL course seemed not enough for maximal educational benefits, and many possible problems were discussed. It is necessary for nursing educators to accumulate lots of knowledge and skills regarding creating good working problems and implementing and evaluating diverse PBL tutorials to test the feasibility changing to PBL curriculum.
Breaking wave is one of the important design factors in the design of coastal and port structures as they are directly related to various physical phenomena occurring on the coast, such as onshore currents, sediment transport, shock wave pressure, and energy dissipation. Due to the inherent complexity of the breaking wave, many empirical formulas have been proposed to predict breaker indices such as wave breaking height and breaking depth using hydraulic models. However, the existing empirical equations for breaker indices mainly were proposed via statistical analysis of experimental data under the assumption of a specific equation. In this study, a new Munk-type empirical equation was proposed to predict the height of breaking waves based on a representative linear supervised machine learning technique with high predictive performance in various research fields related to regression or classification challenges. Although the newly proposed breaker height formula was a simple polynomial equation, its predictive performance was comparable to that of the currently available empirical formula.

Autonomous driving can be limited by only using sensors if the sensor is blocked by sudden changes in surrounding environments or large features such as heavy vehicles. In order to overcome the limitations, the precise road-map has been used additionally. This study was conducted to segment and classify road objects using 3D point cloud data acquired by terrestrial mobile mapping system provided by National Geographic Information Institute. For this study, the original 3D point cloud data were pre-processed and a filtering technique was selected to separate the ground and non-ground points. In addition, the road objects corresponding to the lanes, the street lights, the safety fences were initially segmented, and then the objects were classified using the support vector machine which is a kind of machine learning. For the training data for supervised classification, only the geometric elements and the height information using the eigenvalues extracted from the road objects were used. The overall accuracy of the classification results was 87% and the kappa coefficient was 0.795. It is expected that classification accuracy will be increased if various classification items are added not only geometric elements for classifying road objects in the future.
There are various subtypes of cells in cancer tissues, but it is hard to confirm their composition experimentally. Here, we estimated the cell composition of each sample from gene expression data by using statistical machine learning approaches, two different regression models and investigated whether the cell composition was different between cancer and normal tissue. As a result, we found that CD8 T cell and Neutrophil were increased in oral cancer tissues compared to normal tissues. In addition, we applied t-SNE, which is one of the unsupervised learning, to verify whether normal tissue and oral cancer tissue can be clustered by the derived cell composition. Moreover, we showed that it is possible to predict oral cancer and normal tissue by several supervised classification algorithms. The study would help to improve the understanding of the immune cell infiltration at oral cancer.

Generative adversarial networks are methods of generating images by opposing two neural networks. When generating the image, randomly generated noise is rearranged to generate the image. The image generated by this method is not generated well depending on the noise, and it is difficult to generate a proper image when the number of pixels of the image is small In addition, the speed and size of data accumulation in data classification increases, and there are many difficulties in labeling them. In this paper, to solve this problem, we propose a technique to generate noise based on random noise using real data. Since the proposed system generates an image based on the existing image, it is confirmed that it is possible to generate a more natural image, and if it is used for learning, it shows a higher hit rate than the existing method using the hostile neural network respectively.

We explored the performance improvement method of automated scoring for scientific argumentation. We analyzed the pattern of argumentation using automated scoring models. For this purpose, we assessed the level of argumentation for student's scientific discourses in classrooms. The dataset consists of four units of argumentation features and argumentation levels for episodes. We utilized argumentation clusters and n-gram to enhance automated scoring accuracy. We used the three supervised learning algorithms resulting in 33 automatic scoring models. As a result of automated scoring, we got a good scoring accuracy of 77.59% on average and up to 85.37%. In this process, we found that argumentation cluster patterns could enhance automated scoring performance accuracy. Then, we analyzed argumentation patterns using the model of decision tree and random forest. Our results were consistent with the previous research in which justification in coordination with claim and evidence determines scientific argumentation quality. Our research method suggests a novel approach for analyzing the quality of scientific argumentation in classrooms.

Because of improvement of deep learning techniques, deep learning using computer vision such as classification, detection and segmentation has also been used widely at many fields. Expecially, automatic driving is one of the major fields that applies computer vision systems. Also there are a lot of works and researches to combine multiple tasks in a single network. In this study, we propose the network that predicts the individual depth of pedestrians and vehicles. Proposed model is constructed based on YOLOv3 for object detection and Monodepth for depth estimation, and it process object detection and depth estimation consequently using encoder and decoder based on hard parameter sharing. We also used attention module to improve the accuracy of both object detection and depth estimation. Depth is predicted with monocular image, and is trained using self-supervised training method.

This work assesses the degree of satisfaction tourists receive as final recipients in a tourism destination based on the fact that satisfied tourists can make a significant contribution to the growth and continuous improvement of a tourism business. The work considers Pokhara, the tourism capital of Nepal as a prefecture of study. A stratified sampling methodology with open-ended survey questions is used as a primary source of data for a sample size of 1019 for both international and domestic tourists. The data collected through a survey is processed using a data mining tool to perform multi-dimensional analysis to discover information patterns and visualize clusters. Further, supervised machine learning algorithms, kNN, Decision tree, Support vector machine, Random forest, Neural network, Naive Bayes, and Gradient boost are used to develop models for training and prediction purposes for the survey data. To find the best model for prediction purposes, different performance matrices are used to evaluate a model for performance, accuracy, and robustness. The best model is used in constructing a learning-enabled model for predicting tourists as satisfied, neutral, and unsatisfied visitors. This work is very important for tourism business personnel, government agencies, and tourism stakeholders to find information on tourist satisfaction and factors that influence it. Though this work was carried out for Pokhara city of Nepal, the study is equally relevant to any other tourism destination of similar nature.
Recently, there have been many research efforts based on data-based deep learning technologies to deal with the interference problem between heterogeneous wireless communication devices in unlicensed frequency bands. However, existing approaches are commonly based on the use of complex neural network models, which require high computational power, limiting their efficiency in resource-constrained network interfaces and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. In this study, we address the problem of classifying heterogeneous wireless technologies including Wi-Fi and ZigBee in unlicensed spectrum bands. We focus on a data-driven approach that employs a supervised-learning method that uses received signal strength indicator (RSSI) data to train Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). We propose a simple measurement methodology for collecting RSSI training data which preserves temporal and spectral properties of the target signal. Real experimental results using an open-source 2.4 GHz wireless development platform Ubertooth show that the proposed sampling method maintains the same accuracy with only a 10% level of sampling data for the same neural network architecture.

In the process of collecting social reviews, a number of noise reviews irrelevant to a given search keyword can be included in the search results. To filter out such reviews, machine learning can be used. However, if the number of reviews is insufficient for a target place to be analyzed, filtering accuracy can be degraded due to the lack of training data. To resolve this issue, we propose a supervised learning method to improve accuracy of the noise review filtering for the places with insufficient reviews. In the proposed method, training is not performed by an individual place, but by a group including several places with similar characteristics. The classifier obtained through the training can be used for the noise review filtering of an arbitrary place belonging to the group, so the problem of insufficient training data can be resolved. To verify the proposed method, a noise review filtering model was implemented using LSTM and BERT, and filtering accuracy was checked through experiments using real data collected online. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the proposed method was 92.4% on the average, and it provided 87.5% accuracy when targeting places with less than 100 reviews.
