Pattern classifications have become important tools for fault diagnosis in nuclear power plants (NPP). However, it is often difficult to obtain training data under fault conditions to train a supervised classification model. By contrast, normal plant operating data can be easily made available through increased deployment of supervisory, control, and data acquisition systems. Such data can also be used to train classification models to improve the performance of fault diagnosis scheme. In this paper, a fault diagnosis scheme based on semisupervised classification (SSC) scheme is developed. In this scheme, new measurements collected from the plant are integrated with data observed under fault conditions to train the SSC models. The trained models are subsequently applied to new measurements for fault diagnosis. In comparison with supervised classifiers, the proposed scheme requires significantly fewer data collected under fault conditions to train the classifier. The developed scheme has been validated using different fault scenarios on a desktop NPP simulator as well as on a physical NPP simulator using a graph-based SSC algorithm. All the considered faults have been successfully diagnosed. The results have demonstrated that SSC is a promising tool for fault diagnosis in NPPs.

This paper mainly introduces the methods of extracting landslide information using ALOS(Advanced Land Observing Satellite) images and GIS(Geographical Information System) technology. In this study, we classified images using three different methods which are the unsupervised the supervised and the PCA(Principal Components Analysis) for extracting landslide information based on characteristics of ALOS image. From the image classification results, we found out that the quality of classified image extracted with PCA supervised method was superior than the other images extracted with the other methods. But the accuracy of landslide information extracted from this image classification was still very low as the pixels were very similar between the landslide and safety regions. It means that it is really difficult to distinguish those areas with an image classification method alone because the values of pixels between the landslide and other areas were similar, particularly in a region where the landslide and other areas coexist. To solve this problem, we used the LSM(Landslide Susceptibility Map) created with ArcView software through weighted overlay GIS method in the areas. Finally, the developed LSM was applied to the image classification process using the ALOS images. The accuracy of the extracted landslide information was improved after adopting the PCA and LSM methods. Finally, we found that the landslide region in the study area can be calculated and the accuracy can also be improved with the LSM and PCA image classification methods using GIS tools.

This paper aims to present a supervised classification algorithm based on data fusion for the segmentation of the textured images. The feature extraction method we used is based on discrete wavelet transform (DWT). In the segmentation stage, the estimated feature vector of each pixel is sent to the support vector machine (SVM) classifier for initial labeling. To obtain a more accurate segmentation result, two strategies based on information fusion were used. We first integrated decision-level fusion strategies by combining decisions made by the SVM classifier within a sliding window. In the second strategy, the fuzzy set theory and rules based on probability theory were used to combine the scores obtained by SVM over a sliding window. Finally, the performance of the proposed segmentation algorithm was demonstrated on a variety of synthetic and real images and showed that the proposed data fusion method improved the classification accuracy compared to applying a SVM classifier. The results revealed that the overall accuracies of SVM classification of textured images is 88%, while our fusion methodology obtained an accuracy of up to 96%, depending on the size of the data base.
Many deep learning approaches have been studied for image classification in computer vision. However, there are not enough data to generate accurate models in medical fields, and many datasets are not annotated. This study presents a new method that can use both unlabeled and labeled data. The proposed method is applied to classify cervix images into normal versus cancerous, and we demonstrate the results. First, we use a patch self-supervised learning for training the global context of the image using an unlabeled image dataset. Second, we generate a classifier model by using the transferred knowledge from self-supervised learning. We also apply attention learning to capture the local features of the image. The combined method provides better performance than state-of-the-art approaches in accuracy and sensitivity.
While LDA is a supervised dimension reduction method which finds projective directions to maximize separability between classes, the performance of LDA is severely degraded when the number of labeled data is small. Recently semi-supervised dimension reduction methods have been proposed which utilize abundant unlabeled data and overcome the shortage of labeled data. However, matrix computation usually used in statistical dimension reduction methods becomes hindrance to make the utilization of a large number of unlabeled data difficult, and moreover too much information from unlabeled data may not so helpful compared to the increase of its processing time. In order to solve these problems, we propose an ensemble approach for semi-supervised dimension reduction. Extensive experimental results in text classification demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper presents a fuzzy learning rule which is the fuzzified version of LVQ(Learning Vector Quantization). This fuzzy learning rule 3 uses fuzzy learning rates. instead of the traditional learning rates. LVQ uses the same learning rate regardless of correctness of classification. But, the new fuzzy learning rule uses the different learning rates depending on whether classification is correct or not. The new fuzzy learning rule is integrated into the improved IAFC(Integrated Adaptive Fuzzy Clustering) neural network. The improved IAFC neural network is both stable and plastic. The iris data set is used to compare the performance of the supervised IAFC neural network 3 with the performance of backprogation neural network. The results show that the supervised IAFC neural network 3 is better than backpropagation neural network.

Potholes that occur on paved roads can have fatal consequences for vehicles traveling at high speeds and may even lead to fatalities. While manual detection of potholes using human labor is commonly used to prevent pothole-related accidents, it is economically and temporally inefficient due to the exposure of workers on the road and the difficulty in predicting potholes in certain categories. Therefore, completely preventing potholes is nearly impossible, and even preventing their formation is limited due to the influence of ground conditions closely related to road environments. Additionally, labeling work guided by experts is required for dataset construction. Thus, in this paper, we utilized the Mean Teacher technique, one of the semi-supervised learning-based knowledge distillation methods, to achieve robust performance in pothole image classification even with limited labeled data. We demonstrated this using performance metrics and GradCAM, showing that when using semi-supervised learning, 15 pre-trained CNN models achieved an average accuracy of 90.41%, with a minimum of 2% and a maximum of 9% performance difference compared to supervised learning.

Gene expression studies require statistical experimental designs and validation before laboratory confirmation. Various clustering approaches, such as hierarchical, Kmeans, SOM are commonly used for unsupervised learning in gene expression data. Several classification methods, such as gene voting, SVM, or discriminant analysis are used for supervised lerning, where well-defined response classification is possible. Estimating gene-condition interaction effects require advanced, computationally-intensive statistical approaches.
This paper presents a novel training data extraction approach using semi-supervised learning (SSL)-based classification without the analyst intervention for time-series land-cover mapping. The SSL-based approach first performs initial classification using initial training data obtained from past images including land-cover characteristics similar to the image to be classified. Reliable training data from the initial classification result are then extracted from SSL-based iterative classification using classification uncertainty information and class labels of neighboring pixels as constraints. The potential of the SSL-based training data extraction approach was evaluated from a classification experiment using unmanned aerial vehicle images in croplands. The use of new training data automatically extracted by the proposed SSL approach could significantly alleviate the misclassification in the initial classification result. In particular, isolated pixels were substantially reduced by considering spatial contextual information from adjacent pixels. Consequently, the classification accuracy of the proposed approach was similar to that of classification using manually extracted training data. These results indicate that the SSL-based iterative classification presented in this study could be effectively applied to automatically extract reliable training data for time-series land-cover mapping.
This study aimed to provide a solution for improving ship collision alert of the 'accident vulnerable ship monitoring service' among the 'intelligent marine traffic information system' services of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. The current ship collision alert uses a supervised learning (SL) model with survey labels based on large ship-oriented data and its operators. Consequently, the small ship data and the operator's opinion are not reflected in the current collision-supervised learning model, and the effect is insufficient because the alarm is provided from a longer distance than the small ship operator feels. In addition, the supervised learning (SL) method requires a large number of labeled data, and the labeling process requires a lot of resources and time. To overcome these limitations, in this paper, the classification model of collision alerts for small ships using unlabeled data with the semi-supervised learning (SSL) algorithms (Label Propagation and TabNet) was studied. Results of real-time experiments on small ship operators using the classification model of collision alerts showed that the satisfaction of operators increased.
