A computer program that can estimate static, dynamic stability and control derivatives using a subsonic-supersonic panel method is developed. The panel method uses subsonic-supersonic source and elementary horse shoe vortex distributions, and their strengths are determined by solving the boundary condition approximated with a thin body assumption. In addition, quasi-steady analysis on the body fixed coordinate system allows the estimation of damping coefficients of aircraft 3 axes. The code is validated by comparing the neutral point, roll and pitch damping of delta wings with published analysis results. Finally, the static, dynamic stability and control derivatives of F-18 are compared with experimental data as well as other numerical results to show the accuracy and the usefulness of the code.

A numerical analysis was peformed for the supersonic aircraft with variable pitch thrust vector nozzle. Based on the requirement of the mixed turbofan engine of the supersonic aircraft, two dimensional thrust vector nozzle with variable pitch angle was designed. To investigate the effect of the thrust vectoring nozzle, the numerical analysis was conducted by using Fluent under the several pitch deflection angle.

Relaxed Static Stability (RSS) concept has been applied to improve aerodynamic performance of modern version supersonic jet fighter aircraft. The T-50 advanced supersonic trainer employs the RSS concept in order to improve the aerodynamic performance. And the flight control system stabilizes the unstable aircraft and provides adequate handling qualities. The T-50 longitudinal control laws employ a proportional-plus-integral type controller based on a dynamic inversion method. The longitudinal dynamic modes consist of short period with high frequency and phugoid mode with low frequency. The design goal of longitudinal control law is optimization of short period damping ratio and frequency using Lower Order Equivalent System (LOES) complying the requirement of MIL-F-8785C. This paper addresses phugoid mode characteristics such as damping ratio and natural frequency that is affected by the nonlinear control laws such as angle of attack limiter, auto pitch attitude command system and autopilot of pitch attitude hold.

A metal flaperon of a supersonic aircraft including the ribs, and skins was re-designed with a graphite/epoxy composite material to evaluate the weight saving effect. MSC/NASTRAN was used for the finite element analysis. The safety of the composite structures were evaluated in terms of the failure index, section cut, buckling, bearing/bypass and durability and damage tolerance analysis. After the application of the composite material, total weight saving of 25.6 pounds was achieved.

Icing cloud generation system was developed to perform the in-flight icing simulation test for T-50 Supersonic Jet Trainer on the ground. The developed system successfully generated the almost natural icing cloud in the super-cooled state (liquid state) below freezing point and with the required LWC (Liquid Water Content). For full-scale aircraft icing test, an icing scaling method was adopted due to the limitation of wind generation speed with open-circuit type blower and its applicability was experimentally verified. Under the required in-flight icing condition based on the icing scaling method, T-50 aircraft subsystems were successfully operated and functionally checked.

This paper describes an empirical equation which can be used to predict the engine condition of supersonic aircraft. The equation, which is derived from the trend analysis of JOAP data, represents the concentration of Fe particles in the engine oil. The result of the trend analysis shows that the concentration of Fe particles is a function of running time of engine oil. Meanwhile the slope of Fe concentration is a function of running time of engine. Threfore, the empirical equation was derived as $w=a(t_e).t_o+b$. However, the equation could not enough to diagnose the damaged part of engine quantitatively. To make up for the weak points of the equation, qualitative analysis was carried out. For that purpose wear debris were collected from the abnormal engine and analyzed by EDS to detect the damaged parts of engine.
Numerical study of the flutter of a plate on a viscoelastic foundation is carried out in the paper. Critical velocity of the flutter of a plate on an elastic and viscoelastic foundation is determined. The mathematical model for the investigation of viscoelastic plates is based on the Marguerre's theory applied to the study of the problems of strength, rigidity and stability of thin-walled structures such as aircraft wings. Aerodynamic pressure is determined in accordance with the A.A. Ilyushin's piston theory. Using the Bubnov - Galerkin method, the basic resolving systems of nonlinear integro-differential equations (IDE) are obtained. At wide ranges of geometric and physical parameters of viscoelastic plates, their influence on the flutter velocity has been studied in detail.

A canard-leading edge flap deflection scheduling laws have been established to enhance the maneuverability of the canard type fighter class aircraft. These scheduling laws are the relation of canard-leading edge flap deflections and flight conditions to maximize the lift-drag ratio. For these purposes, the corrected supersonic panel method has been used to predict the lift-drag characteristics due to canard-leading edge flap deflections. In addition, the high speed wind tunnel test has been conducted with 1/20 scale model to validate the predicted scheduling laws. Good agreements have been obtained compared with the results of high speed wind tunnel test. Based on the results obtained from the experimental and numerical studies, the corrected supersonic panel method has shown to be useful to establish the canard-leading edge flap deflection scheduling law for the aerodynamic design of canard type fighter class aircraft.

In this study, transonic/supersonic nonlinear flutter analysis system of a complete aircraft including forced harmonic motion pf control surfaces has been effectively developed using the modified transonic small disturbance (TSD) equation. To consider the nonlinear effects, the coupled time marching method (CTM) combining computational structural dynamics (CFD) has been directly applied for aeroelastic computations. The grid system for a complex full aircraft configuration is effectively generated by the developed inhouse code. Intransonic and supersonic flight regimes, the characteristics of static and dynamic aeroelastic effect has been investigated for a complete aircraft model. Also, nonlinear flutter flight simulations for the forced harmonic motion of control surfaces are practically presented in detail.
