  • Flat slab system has been adopted in many buildings constructed recently because of the advantage of reduced floor heights to meet the economical and architectural demands. Structural engineers commonly use the equivalent frame method(EFM) with equivalent beams proposed by Jacob S. Grossman in practical engineering for the analysis of flat slab structures. However, in many cases, when it is difficult to use the EFM, it is necessary to use a refined finite element model for an accurate analysis. But it would take significant amount of computational time and memory if the entire building structure were subdivided into a finer mesh. An efficient analytical method is proposed in this study to obtain accurate results in significantly reduced computational time. The proposed method employs super elements developed using the matrix condensation technique and fictitious beams are used in the development of super elements to enforce the compatibility at the interfaces of super elements. The stiffness degradation of flat slab system considered in the EFM was taken into account by reducing the elastic modulus of floor slabs in this study. Static and dynamic analyses of example structures were peformed and the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method were verified by comparing the results with those of the refined finite element model and the EFM.

  • In this paper, a super wideband printed dipole antenna operating in the band of 1-15 GHz is studied. A semi-circular-shaped dipole element is used to obtain a super wideband characteristic. Optimal design parameters are obtained by analyzing the effects of the gap between the two arms of the semi-circular-shaped dipole and the radius of the semi-circle on the input reflection coefficient and gain characteristics. The optimized printed semi-circular-shaped dipole antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of $100mm{\times}100mm$. Experimental results show that the antenna has a desired super wideband characteristic with a frequency band of 1-15 GHz (bandwidth ration 15:1, 175%) for a VSWR < 2.

  • Shanghai Tower is a 632-meter super high-rise building located in an area with wind and active earthquake. A sophisticated structural health monitoring (SHM) system consisting of more than 400 sensors has been built to carry out a long-term monitoring for its operational safety. In this paper, a reduced-order model including 31 elements was generated from a full model of this super tall building. An iterative regularized matrix method was proposed to tune the system parameters, making the dynamic characteristic of the reduced-order model be consistent with those in the full model. The updating reduced-order model can be regarded as a benchmark model for further analysis. A long-term monitoring for structural dynamic characteristics of Shanghai Tower under different construction stages was also investigated. The identified results, including natural frequency and damping ratio, were discussed. Based on the data collected from the SHM system, the dynamic characteristics of the whole structure was investigated. Compared with the result of the finite element model, a good agreement can be observed. The result provides a valuable reference for examining the evolution of future dynamic characteristics of this super tall building.

  • Micro-suing that used on micro mechanism should be equal to distance between pitch and correct of shape. Therefore, micro spring must make by super-precision working. But, current step of super-precision processing depends on special quality of work piece and is ineffective the aspect of cost and productivity yet. Also, to use as demandable length shearing process perform but even if make precision spring, in the aspect of quality of coil spring make difficult that produce product of good quality. Therefore, purpose of this study presented proposed process that extract the point of processing factor after perform finite element analysis applying existing sheet shearing process to suing shearing process consider cost and productivity after evaluate.

  • The box system, composed only of reinforced concrete walls and slabs, are adopted by many high-rise apartment buildings recently constructed in Korea. In the buildings, one or more relatively large openings are cut in a shear wall for functional reasons. The openings influence the internal stress of the shear wall and also the structural behavior. Therefore, it is necessary to use subdivided plate elements for accurate analysis of the box system with openings. But it would cost tremendous amount of analysis time and computer memory if the shear wall is subdivided into a finer mesh in the analysis of high-rise buildings. So, it is difficult to apply this modeling method to practical procedure. In this study, an efficient method is proposed for the efficient and accurate analysis of shear wall with openings. The proposed method used the super element and matrix condensations, fictitious beam technique.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the bulk/sheet forming characteristics of bulk amorphous alloys in the super cooled liquid state. Recently it is reported that amorphous alloys exhibit stress overshoot/undershoot and non-Newtonian behaviors even in the super cooled liquid state. The stress-strain curves with the temperature-dependences as well as strain-rate dependence of Newtonian/non-Newtonian viscosities of amorphous alloys are obtained based on the previous experimental works. Then, those curves are directly used in the thermo-mechanical finite element analyses. Upsetting and deep drawing of amorphous alloys are simulated to examine the effects of process parameters such as friction coefficient, forming speed and temperature. It could be concluded that the superior formability of an amorphous alloy can be obtained by taking the proper forming conditions.

  • In this paper we present a postprocessing scheme for the Raviart-Thomas mixed finite element approximation of the second order elliptic eigenvalue problem. This scheme is carried out by solving a primal source problem on a higher order space, and thereby can improve the convergence rate of the eigenfunction and eigenvalue approximations. It is also used to compute a posteriori error estimates which are asymptotically exact for the $L^2$ errors of the eigenfunctions. Some numerical results are provided to confirm the theoretical results.

  • There are constraints on truck weight, axle configurations and size imposed by departments of transportation around the globe due to structural capacity limitations of highway pavements and bridges. In spite of that, freight movers demand some vehicles that surpass the maximum size and legal weight limits to use the transportation network. Oversized trucks serve the purpose of spreading the load on the bridge; thus, reducing the load effect on the superstructure. For such vehicles, often a quick structural analysis of the existing bridges along the traveled route is needed to ensure that the structural capacity is not exceeded. For a wide vehicle having wheel gage larger than the standard 1830 mm, the girder distribution factors in the design specifications cannot be directly used to estimate the live load in the supporting girders. In this study, a simple approach that is based on finite element analysis is developed by modifying the AASHTO LRFD's girder distribution factors for slab-on-steel-girder bridges to overcome this problem. The proposed factors allow for determining the oversized vehicle bending moment and shear force effect in the individual girders as a function of the gage width characteristics. Findings of the study showed that the relationship between the girder distribution factor and gage width is more nonlinear in shear than in flexure. The proposed factors yield reasonable results compared with the finite element analysis with adequate level of conservatism.
