The results of this study are as follows. It was found that COVID-19 correlated with perceived stress, hopelessness, and suicidal ideation of college students. The hopelessness completely mediated between perceived stress and suicidal thoughts of college students, which is consistent with previous studies. This study is meaningful in that it confirmed relationship between the perceived stress, hopelessness, and suicidal ideations in college students due to COVID-19, reflecting the new situation of the times. Coronavirus will worsen people's mental health disorders and cause new stress-related disorders. Therefore, mental health researchers, clinicians, and people working in trauma-related fields should find ways to reduce the incidence of coronavirus-related trauma stress and prevent its effects. It is necessary to expand the psychological vaccine program to improve the resilience of the public. Since there are individual differences in resilience, it is necessary to strengthen the psychological vaccine program for each subject considering resilience.

The data was collected from the community health survey in 2017 with 228,381 people. When categorizing them into male and female, logistic regression analysis was conducted and the main analysis results are as follows. First, there are more women with shorter or longer sleep time than men. Second, in case of shorter sleep time (5 hours and less), stress, depression, and the suicidal ideation rates were high while suicidal attempts were higher in case of sleep greater than 9 hours and more. Third, in case of men, based on 6~8 hours of sleep time, people with shorter sleep time showed higher stress (1.84 times), depression (1.98), suicidal ideation (1.88), and attempts (2.38). People with 9 hours and more sleep showed greater depression (1.79), suicidal ideation (1.96) and attempts (2.39). Fourth, in the case of women, people with shorter sleep time showed greater stress (2.09), depression (1.94), suicidal ideation (1.96), and attempts (2.90). People with longer sleep showed greater depression (1.39), suicidal ideation (1.45) and attempts (1.71). Fifth, people's stress with greater sleep for both genders was higher than that of people with normal sleep. but there was no significant difference. Further prospective studies are needed on specific sleep dysfunctions effects on suicidal ideation and attempts.

  • Elderly suicide is a major public health issue in South Korea. The aim of this study was to systematically examine the current knowledge about suicidal ideation among Korean older adults with specific focus on risk and preventive factors. In order to achieve this aim, a meta-analysis was conducted using Korean academic peer-reviewed journals published since 2001. A total of 97 articles were selected that met the research criteria (e.g., original study findings and key words of suicidal ideation, suicidal thought, and suicide). Three domains were identified and used for further analysis: individual, family, and society. Results showed that among individual factors, depression and burden or stress increased the risk of suicidal ideation, while better mental health reduced the risk of suicidal ideation. Among family factors, living alone was a risk factor for suicidal ideation, while family cohesion was a preventive factor for suicidal ideation. Among social factors, elderly discrimination, social isolation, and negative relationships were significant risk factors, while social support, social environment, and social activities were significant preventive factors affecting suicidal ideation. The results suggest several practical implications for developing suicide prevention programs and counseling approaches to address suicidal ideation. For example, depression and stress can be reduced by MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) program where meditation is used as a coping strategy. In addition, counseling programs specifically focused on improving family and social relations should be implemented. Government should continuously support for these programs to prevent suicide among older Koreans.

  • This study aimed to investigate the mediating effect of hope between stress and suicidal ideation of adolescents. For the study, 399 adolescents were surveyed at 10 cities of Korea from May to August in 2010. Main results of the study were in the followings. First, it was found out that stress of adolescents was positively correlated with suicidal ideation, hope was negatively correlated with suicidal ideation, and stress influenced more suicidal ideation than hope. Second, suicidal ideation of adolescents tended to be low, stress was in the middle level, and agency and pathways thinking of hope was higher than middle level. Third, it was proved that agency and pathways thinking of hope was mediated between stress and suicidal ideation of adolescents. Lastly, for the female adolescents living in the metropolitan and large cities, only agency thinking of hope was mediated but pathways thinking was not mediated. Policy implications for preventing and decreasing adolescent's suicide were suggested.

In character type, percentage of the active integrated coper was 67.1% and next was the dependent passive type, the self-negating undercoper, and the failing overcoper. Loneliness and suicidal ideation of the active integrated coper were lower than them of the failing overcoper and the self-negating undercoper in elderly. There was positive correlation between loneliness and suicidal ideation. It is meaningful that the study results will be provided for understanding of elderly' mental health. Based on the results, the differentiated intervention considered of character type should be developed and provided for decreasing the loneliness and suicidal ideation in elderly.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine factors influencing adolescents' suicidal ideation and provide foundational data to reduce adolescents' suicidal ideation and prevent their suicide based on that. According to the research results, there was no significant difference found in demographic characteristics. And depression, stress, and social support exerted significant influence on suicidal ideation. As depression and stress became higher, suicidal ideation increased. When other factors were controlled, suicidal ideation increased if social support was provided less. Based on the study results, the study has made political suggestions as follows: first, regarding the family support system, it is needed to adopt institutional approaches so that they can participate in many different types of education to improve relationship between parents and children. Second, about the school support system, it is necessary to develop programs to form teacher and peer support relations and build the friend support resource system. Third, in terms of the community support system, it is required to build an integrated support system to form diverse local networks.

  • The study was conducted to identify related risk factor of elderly's suicidal ideation. This study used a cross-sectional design with secondary analysis of the $6^{th}$ 2013 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). Data for 1,201 elderlies who aged over 65 years old from the KNHANES were included. Suicidal ideation, general characteristics, physical health, psychological health, EuroQoL, and health behavior were measured. Chi-square test, t-test, and multiple logistic regression were used to analyze this data through the SPSS win 22.0 program. In the results, 7.7% of the elderly had suicidal ideation. The odds ratios of suicidal ideation were significantly higher among those with restriction of activity (OR=1.31, CI=1.40~3.82), those with depression (OR=4.44, CI=1.66~7.40), and those with high levels of stress (OR=9.24, CI=3.48~24.5). Therefore, the activity level, depression level, and stress level need to be regularly assessed in order to prevent suicidal ideation among the elderly.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of depression, self-esteem and daily life ability on suicidal ideation in elderly people with chronic illness. The subjects were 170 outpatients and inpatients in a general hospital in D city. After conducting questionnaires for data collection, t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression analysis were performed and analyzed using SPSS 12.0 / win program. The results showed that suicidal ideation was influenced by gender, health status, chronic disease diagnosis, and experience of suicide attempt, with a positive correlation with depression and a negative correlation with daily life ability. The suicide attempt experience, depression, self-esteem and daily living ability showed 50.8% explanatory power against suicidal ideation. In order to reduce suicidal ideation, it is necessary to reduce suicidal ideation of elderly people with chronic diseases by managing an intervention program that reduces depression and improves daily life ability.
