Objective: Given the considerable disagreement between the Peer Assessment Rating (PAR) index and the American Board of Orthodontics Cast-Radiograph Evaluation, we aimed to develop a novel assessment system-the Improvement and Completion of Outcome (ICO) index-to evaluate the outcome of orthodontic treatment. Methods: Sixteen criteria from 4 major categories were established to represent the pretreatment malocclusion status, as well as the degree of improvement and level of completion of outcome during/after treatment: dental relationship (arch length discrepancy, irregularity, U1-SN, and IMPA); anteroposterior relationship (overjet, right and left molar position, ANB); vertical relationship (anterior overbite, anterior open-bite, lateral open-bite, SN-MP); and transverse relationship (dental midline discrepancy, chin point deviation, posterior cross-bite, occlusal plane cant). The score for each criterion was defined from 0 or -1 (worst) to 5 (ideal value or normal occlusion) in gradations of 1. The sum of the scores in each category indicates the area and extent of the problems. Improvement and completion percentages were estimated based on the pre- and post-treatment total scores and the maximum total score. If the completion percentage exceeded 80%, treatment outcome was considered successful. Results: Two cases, Class I malocclusion and skeletal Class III malocclusion, are presented to represent the assessment procedure using the ICO index. The difference in the level of improvement and completion of treatment outcome can be clearly explained by using 2 percentage values. Conclusions: Thus, the ICO index enables the evaluation of the quality of orthodontic treatment objectively and consecutively throughout the entire treatment process.
An unusual case of nodal metastases from thyroid neoplasm known as parapharyngeal space mass is likely to be overlooked. And identification of the primary lesion by excisional biopsy calls for a secondary operation. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the possible lymphatic spread of the thyroid neoplasm to the parapharyngeal space. In this case, completion thyroidectomy should be considered. Here, we present a case of thyroid papillary carcinoma masquerading as a parapharyngeal space tumor. The mass was removed by transcervical approach and pathologically diagnosed as a metastatic thyroid papillary carcinoma. Successful results were obtained after additional completion thyroidectomy.
The mouse kidney transplantation model serves as an invaluable tool for exploring various aspects of the transplant process, including acute rejection, cellular and humoral rejection, ischemia-reperfusion injury, and the evaluation of novel therapeutic strategies. However, conducting venous anastomosis in this model poses a significant challenge due to the thin and pliable characteristics of the renal vein, which often obstruct clear visualization of the resected vein's edge. This study proposes the adoption of a two stay suture technique to enhance the visualization of the renal vein's edge, thereby facilitating efficient and successful venous anastomosis. A total of 22 mice served as kidney donors in this study. The conventional anchoring suture technique was employed for venous anastomosis in 11 of these mice, while the remaining 11 underwent the two stay suture technique. The anastomosis duration and completion rates were then compared between these two groups. The conventional anchoring suture technique yielded an average anastomosis time of 29 minutes and a completion rate of 64%. In contrast, the two stay suture technique demonstrated a substantial improvement, with an average anastomosis time of 14 minutes and a completion rate of 100%. The two stay suture technique offers a promising solution to enhance visualization during venous anastomosis in murine kidney transplantation. This technique may particularly benefit novices by enabling them to perform venous anastomosis more easily, swiftly, and successfully.
A 3-year-old boy with Glenn physiology exhibited refractory heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. To improve the patient's oxygen saturation, he underwent ventricular assist device (VAD) implantation with concomitant Fontan completion. The extracardiac conduit Fontan operation was performed with a 4-mm fenestration. For VAD implantation, Berlin Heart cannulas were positioned at the left ventricular apex and the neo-aorta. Following weaning from cardiopulmonary bypass, a temporary continuous-flow VAD, equipped with an oxygenator, was utilized for support. After a stabilization period of 1 week, the continuous-flow VAD was replaced with a durable pulsatile-flow device. Following 3 months of support, the patient underwent transplantation without complications. The completion of the Fontan procedure at the time of VAD implantation, along with the use of a temporary continuous-flow device with an oxygenator, may aid in stabilizing postoperative hemodynamics. This approach could contribute to a safe transition to a durable pulsatile VAD in patients with Glenn physiology.

This paper deals with a performance analysis of real-time control systems, which engages DMR(dual modular redundancy) to detect transient errors and checkpointing technique to tolerate transient errors. Transient errors are caused by transient faults and the most significant type of errors in reliable computer systems. Transient faults are assumed to occur according to a Poisson process and to be detected by a dual modular redundant structure. In addition, an equidistant checkpointing strategy is considered. The probability of the successful task completion in a real-time control system where periodic checkpointing operations are performed during the execution of a real-time control task is derived. Numerical examples show how checkpoiniting scheme influences the probability of task completion. In addition, the result of the analysis is compared with the simulation result.

For a successful checkpointing strategy, we should place checkpoints so as to optimize fault-tolerance capability of real-time systems. This paper presents a novel scheme of checkpoint placement for real-time systems with periodic multi-tasks. Under the influence of transient faults, multi-tasks are scheduled by the Rate Monotonic (RM) algorithm. The optimal checkpoint intervals are derived to maximize the probability of task completion. In particular, this paper is concerned about the general case that the deadline of a task is longer than the period. Compared with the special condition that the deadline is equal to or less than the period, this general case causes a more complicate test procedure for schedulability of the RM algorithm with respect to a given set of checkpoint re-execution vectors. The probability of task completion is also derived in a more complex form. A case study is given to show the applicability of the proposed scheme.
Korean won overseas construction projects worth 71.6 billion US Dollars in 2010, which exceeded that of 2009 by 45.6%. An overseas construction project is a transaction of large scale, long term project, many parties participating, deferred payment, and of high-technology. It contributes to foreign currency earning, and also leads the nation's export restructuring work towards high value-added one. There are various kinds of risks towards the relevant parties respectively, which are key elements in successfully performing the overseas construction project. There are completion risk, financing risk, operating risk, revenue risk etc, in an employer's place. A contractor may be confronted with payment risk, issuance risk of performance bond, financing risk, performance risk of sub-contractors, and exchange rate risk. In lenders place there are repayment risk, completion risk, and political risk in the host country. In order to mitigate risks, the parties shall take relevant measures or require relevant securities. A contractor needs to evaluate the credibility of an employer in respect of payment risk, and can also request export insurance cover by the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation(the former 'Korea Export Insurance Corporation"). An employer can require a contractor to provide performance bond in respect of completion risk, and employ a well-known first class bank as a mandated arranger to arrange financing with regard to completion risk. Lenders needs to evaluate the credibility of an employer and accomplish feasibility study of the project. Lenders can request insurance cover from export credit agency. Once the parties assess the respective risks and obtain relevant securities, the project will be successfully completed. The success of the project will be sure to bring the parties involved enormous profits and another opportunity to participate in overseas construction project afterwards.

In the current construction industry, difficulty arises in creating an adequate baseline schedule to establish a fundamental plan for construction. This presentation will present the research findings which investigated industry-recognized schedule metrics that aid in the successful implementation of said schedule. Industry organizations (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering, the Government Accountability Office, the Project Management Institute, and local city, state, and county government offices) provide standardized guidelines with specific metrics requirements to ensure successful implementation. However, most of those metrics are substantiated or validated in their effectiveness. The study examined the impact between these industry-recognized critical metrics and three distinct scheduling characteristics: Project Type, Project Duration, and Project Density (number of activities within a schedule). The research results showed that, among the 12 various schedules evaluated in parallel with 20 industry-recognized critical metrics, seven metrics substantially demonstrate a significant impact on a project schedule's success. Furthermore, six of the seven metrics directly correlate to at least one of the three scheduling characteristics outlined. As a result, this research has established more predictable outcomes based on impacts between three distinct project characteristics and 20 of the most discussed/researched critical scheduling metrics in the field. This allows management teams to have more confidence in establishing critical milestones and accurate turnover dates from the start of the project through its final completion.

Construction industry is considered as one of the oldest industries in the world since human came into being and the need of their own space is realized. All this led to make the world a space of many beautiful constructive ventures. As per the requirements of today's world, every industry is recognizing the need for use and adoption of modern as well as innovative technologies due to their benefits and timely production. Now construction industry has also started adopting the use of modern and innovative technologies during their projects but still the rate of adoption is so slow. From design to completion, construction projects take a lot to manage for which technology based solutions have continuously been proposed. These include Computer Aided Design (CAD), building information modeling (BIM) and cloud computing have been proved to be much successful until now. The construction projects are high budgeted, and direly require timely and successful completion with quality, resource and other constraints. So, the researchers observe the need of more clear and technology based communication between the construction projects and its constructors and other stakeholders is required before and during the construction to take timely precautions for expected issues. This study has analyzed the use of Augmented Reality (AR) technology adopting GammaAR, and ARki applications in construction industry. It has been found that both applications are light-weighted, upgradable, provide offline availability and collaborative environment as well as fulfil most of the requirements of the construction industry except the cost. These applications also support different screen size for better visualization and deep understanding. Both applications are analyzed, based on construction's application requirements, usability of AR and ratings of applications user collected from application's platform. The purpose of this research is to provide a detail insight of construction applications which are using AR to facilitate both the future developers and consumers.
