In this study, dynamic behavior of the vehicles is analyzed, while the track is subjected to lateral vibrations due to earthquake and blasting load. A computer program(WERIA, Wheel Rail Interaction Analysis) is used, which can simulate dynamic responses of vehicles subjected to lateral vibrations. The analysis considers two types of vehicles: I.e. power cars of KTX and Busan subway train. It can also consider the interaction with sub-structures such as tracks and soil. The creep force module is considered, and the running safety of railway vehicles subjected to earthquake and blasting loading is studied. Based on the results of this study, the running safety of the vehicles can be confirmed against lateral vibration.

Ground-borne noise and vibration generated by underground transit system has been recognized as an important environmental problem. This study reviews several of the procedures that have been used to predict ground-borne vibration. The vibration responses are measured at three sites that have different soil qualities. The measured vibration levels are compared with the predicted results by previously used vibration level prediction models. There are some drawbacks to apply these prediction models to selected sites because most of the existing prediction models are primarily based on empirical data and all of them lack of analytical models for the mechanism of ground-borne vibration generation. radiation, and propagation. In this study a numerical method, which is based on explicit differential method, is used to compensate for the shortcomings of existing prediction models. Although numerically computed results are not quantitatively in good agreement with the measured results, the trends are comparable in the sense that vibration level does not decrease monotonically with distance. Also, the site with the deepest tunnel gives the highest vibration level.

There is increasing interest in using structural monitoring as a cost effective way of managing risks once an area of concern has been identified. However, it is challenging to deploy an effective, reliable, large-scale, long-term and real-time monitoring system in an underground railway environment (subway / metro). The use of wireless sensor technology allows for rapid deployment of a monitoring scheme and thus has significant potential benefits as the time available for access is often severely limited. This paper identifies the critical factors that should be considered in the design of a wireless sensor network, including the availability of electrical power and communications networks. Various issues facing underground deployment of wireless sensor networks will also be discussed, in particular for two field case studies involving networks deployed for structural monitoring in the Prague Metro and the London Underground. The paper describes the network design, the radio propagation, the network topology as well as the practical issues involved in deploying a wireless sensor network in these two tunnels.
It is reported that particulate matter(PM) penetrates the lungs and blood vessels and causes various heart diseases and respiratory diseases such as lung cancer. The subway is a means of transportation used by an average of 10 million people a day, and although it is important to create a clean and comfortable environment, the level of particulate matter pollution is shown to be high. It is because the subways run through an underground tunnel and the particulate matter trapped in the tunnel moves to the underground station due to the train wind. The Ministry of Environment and the Seoul Metropolitan Government are making various efforts to reduce PM concentration by establishing measures to improve air quality at underground stations. The smart air quality management system is a system that manages air quality in advance by collecting air quality data, analyzing and predicting the PM concentration. The prediction model of the PM concentration is an important component of this system. Various studies on time series data prediction are being conducted, but in relation to the PM prediction in subway stations, it is limited to statistical or recurrent neural network-based deep learning model researches. Therefore, in this study, we propose four transformer-based models including spatiotemporal transformers. As a result of performing PM concentration prediction experiments in the waiting rooms of subway stations in Seoul, it was confirmed that the performance of the transformer-based models was superior to that of the existing ARIMA, LSTM, and Seq2Seq models. Among the transformer-based models, the performance of the spatiotemporal transformers was the best. The smart air quality management system operated through data-based prediction becomes more effective and energy efficient as the accuracy of PM prediction improves. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the efficient operation of the smart air quality management system.
Excepting tunnel of dorimstream - ccachimountain station section, the subway line No.2th section was build using ASSM and NATM methods because of soil pressure and land condition. The way of dealing underground water was selected without sufficient preconsideration of geographical features, ground condition, influence of lowing underground water, and long-term cost of running maintenance so that the form of undrained tunnel was build having decreased construction characteristics and technically improper elements. The form of partial drainage is very difficult to manage structures of tunnel, because water leakage, water pressure causing cracks of lining concretes and scaling are constantly happened. so partial drainage suggest that setting reinforced Anchor Bolt to prevent buoyancy and should increase center drainage way up to height of railroad. Partial drainage suggest that holey pipe(${\phi}$350mm) manhole, drainage checking pipe manhole are should be regularly dredged, when changing roadbed(gravel${\rightarrow}$concrete) drainage checking pipe manhole should be build and setting a limitation of entering underground water's quantities. Beside drainage degree in changed section of structures causing instability of structures is continuous degree. so if efficient drainage way and the patterns of flaws, problems are considered in survey, it will be expected to have a advantage condition in maintenance part.
The calcium hydroxide$(Ca(OH)_2)$ which is the cement hydrate flowed into the tunnel by groundwater is reacted with microorganism in the soil, carbon dioxide$(CO_2)$ and the vehicle's exhaust gas$(SO_3)$. So its by-products are precipitated at the drainage pipe and these cause the drainage clogging. By this phenomenon, Degradation of water flow at the drainage system of the tunnel occurred and also pore water pressure is increased. Hence the acceleration of seepage and degradation of lining is occurred. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the field applicability of the Quantum Stick and Magnetic treatment in prevention of scale deposits at the Namsan ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ tunnel and the Zone ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ of subway. These technologies were installed into drainpipes with their performance monitored through occasional site visits. SEM and XRD were also performed on scale collected from these drainpipes. As a result, in case which factor technology is applied, scale creation is remarkably decreased and especially Quantum Stick treatment performing better than Magnetic treatment. Therefore, additional application of Quantum Stick or Magnetic treatment to the existing drainage is expected to decrease the drainage clogging of the drainage.

Shortly after tunnel boring machine (TBM) was introduced in the tunneling industry, the use of TBM has surprisingly increased worldwide due to its performance together with the benefit of being safely and environmentally friendly. One of the main cost items in the TBM tunneling in rock and soil is changing damaged or worn cutters. It is because that the cutter change is a time-consuming and costly activity that can significantly reduce the TBM utilization and advance rate and has a major effect on the total time and cost of TBM tunneling projects. Therefore, the importance of accurately evaluating the cutter life can never be overemphasized. However, the prediction of cutter wear in soil, rock including mixed face is very complex and not yet fully clarified, subsequently keeping engineers busy around the world. Various prediction models for cutter wear have been developed and introduced, but these models almost usually produce highly variable results due to inherent uncertainties in the models. In this study, a case study of design and construction of disc cutter change is introduced and analyzed, rather than proposing a prediction model of cutter wear. As the disc cutter is strongly affected by the geological condition, TBM machine characteristic and operation, authors believe it is very hard to suggest a generalized prediction model given the uncertainties and limitations therefore it would be more practical to analyze a real case and provide a detailed discussion of the difference between prediction and result for the cutter change. By doing so, up-to-date idea about planning and execution of cutter change in practice can be promoted.

The use of TBM (Tunnel boring machine) has increased worldwide due to its performance together with the benefit of being safely and environmentally friendly compared to conventional tunneling. In particular, EPB (Earth Pressure Balanced) TBM is widely used because it can be applied to various grounds compared to Open TBM. Also EPB TBM has a simple mechanical structure and advantages in cost, requires less ground area than Slurry TBM. EPB TBM has advantages in soft ground, and more importantly, can extend its applicability by use of appropriate soil conditioning, which improves mechanical and hydrological properties of excavated soil and increases the excavation performance of EPB TBM. Various studies suggested the proper mixing ratio and injection ratio, but almost they are limited to laboratory test under atmospheric pressure such as slump test. Actual field conditions may differ depending on the ground and mechanical condition. In this study, first the amount of used soil conditioning used in the field with various grounds from hard rock to soft ground was estimated through laboratory tests and compared with the estimate in design stage. And also it was compared with the amount used during actual excavation. In addition, experience of soil conditioning for the problems of cutter head clogging and groundwater inrush that occurred during excavation is discussed. Finally, lesson learned for the use of soil conditioning in difficult ground condition such as mixed ground are reviewed.

Recently, the Shield TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) construction method is used gradually to increase at the Tunnel Constructin site. However the design and application of the Shield TBM were carried out without sufficient investigation of the ground conditions in the construction site. Due to insufficient understanding to the corresponding equipment is frequently occurring unexpected construction cost and extension of a construction period. The most suitable alternative construction method was determined by analyzing tunneling rate, duration, construction cost of shield machine and tunneling data of alternative method. The result of the case study is suggested as follows. First, the accurate soil exploration on the construction site should be preceded to prevent from tunneling stoppage and schedule delay. Second, the most suitable selection of the shield machine to the ground conditions of the construction site should be executed based on the investigation. Third, the best alternative method for boring of hard rock section is 'hard rock blasting after open cut and cover method'.

Urban densification has necessitated the development of subterranean spaces such as subway networks and underground tunnels to facilitate the dispersal and movement of populations. Development of these underground spaces requires excavation from the ground surface, which can induce groundwater flow and potentially lead to ground subsidence and sinkholes, damaging structures. To mitigate these risks, it is essential to model groundwater flow prior to construction, analyze its characteristics, and predict potential groundwater discharge during excavation. In this study, we collected meteorological, topographical, and soil conditions data for the city of ○○, where tunnel construction was planned. Using the Visual MODFLOW program, we modeled the groundwater flow. Excavation sections were set as drainage points to monitor groundwater discharge during the excavation process, and the effectiveness of seepage control measures was assessed. The model was validated by comparing measured groundwater levels with those predicted by the model, yielding a coefficient of determination of 0.87. Our findings indicate that groundwater discharge is most significant at the beginning of the excavation. Additionally, the presence of seepage barriers was found to reduce groundwater discharge by approximately 59%.
