Demand of new suburban residential development and a variety of new types for housing have intensified by urban Citizens overused of poor urban residential environment. Income growth and improvement of living standards for the quality of the living environment are increasing demands of creating a more comfortable living environment. Thus, according to changes in social conditions, the development of urban area while accommodating additional development pressure adequately, particularly residential development in order to promote the efficient development of suburban areas are planned for the rational development direction. This study suggests the following improvement measures by analyzing the characteristics of the Suburban Housing Complexes built recently. In order to create a more pleasant Suburban Housing Complexes First, the accessibility of the traffic conditions, education and public facilities is good Second, the construction plans reflected needs of the consumers should be made Third, necessary facilities for activation of the urban-rural exchanges must be equipped.

Nowadays, with the perception on residential environment to improve the quality of life, interests in suburban area as a housing area based on the good natural environment has risen, as this area can solve the various social issues and pollutions caused by the overcrowding in the urban area. In the North Western Europe where people have already experienced the industrialization and urbanity, cohousing which designate the modem neighborhood relationships pursuing the common interest has developed, by emphasizing the community activity based on the mutual cooperation while accepting the lives in suburban area. Thus, this study pays attention to 'cohousing' as an appropriate alternative of new suburban residential development and preference of residents of suburban residential development applied the concept of cohousing. For this study, literature reviews and survey on suburban area residents were carried out and general results were provided. Through the survey on the residents in suburban areas, request on new suburban residential development and preferences to cohousing were analyzed. Residents responded that suburban residential development should be planned reflecting the characteristics of the area and considerations on communities are the necessity. They also responded that residential development developed the low-rise housing with low population density. It shows that there will be broad potential consumers for suburban residential development applied cohousing technique in the future.

The purpose of this study is to understand the present housing condition of the suburban housing complex, and the residents' preferences to make their living condition better in Yong-in and Yang-pyeong, Pocheon, Kwang-ju and Kimpo in Kyung-Ki province, Korea. Questionnaire survey has been carried out to figure out the current status and residents' preferences of the Suburban housing complexes (hereafter SHC). The study showed the present status and the demands of people for their houses as a result like the below. First, currently the SHCs are managed by a joint control type, and the preferences of the residents' showed the similar way. Because of this status, the SHC planning is supposed to have the self-governing management and community space to support the activity of their community. Second, most SHCs doesn't have many public facility, in contrast, each house has various exteriors. This result shows the residents want more to develop their own houses' exterior than that of the SHC's public facility. Prior to plan the SHC, a program should be considered to give better understanding to residens what is the complexed life and make them choose what they really want to have. Third, the studied SHCs' renovation activities are commonly focussed on the exteriors. This shows the residents' life style is focussed more on the out-door life. The planning for the future SHC is supposed to have the points that could follow up the out-door friendly situations.

The purpose of this study is to understand the present status of life style and housing demands of residents in Yoing-in and Kwang-Ju in Kyung-Ki province, Korea. Field study methods were carried out practically using participant observation method and open-ended interview method, and the data were gotten by sketch, recording, photograph and memo. As a result, the followings were proposed. First, it was necessary to hide or reduce of the neighborhood's noise or direct view because those people thought the invasion of the privacy problem was very severe. The master planning of the complex method could be an alternative plan for this kind of problems. Second, it was needed to be the planning that could follow up the out-door friendly situations. To achieve this, the in between living space are needed that connected the outside and inside of the house. Third, the planning of the housing space should flexible for each participant's needs of the future. To achieve this, each unit in the suburban housing complexes should be fixed to the each character of the people's various needs.

This study is about architectural design for rural housing block redevelopment for districts with existing residents considering sustainable development. The study suggests development direction focusing on preserving the regional characteristics, and presentation of suburban-style housing complex reflecting on the future tenant's individuality and demand. The preexisting development approach for suburban-style housing complex which was planned by the developer, failed to recognize taste of the future tenants. Profitability being the priority, it also resulted in a serious environmental disruption. In this development however, through a systematic direction for site development and site analysis, conducting surveys through future tenants, attempted for a continuous growth of the community. The study is presented covering the following areas; site's pathway system, nature conservation plan, lot plan, land use, arrangement plan, housing plan and community facility.

The purpose of this study is for investigating characteristics of changing residential density and relations between housing supply and redistribution of population in Daegu. As a result, the following conclusions could be made. First, land development and housing supply have important effect on distribution of population and changing residential density in Daegu. Second, according to massive site development to meet the housing demand in suburban area, the suburbanization has begun and build-up-area grows faster, so centre of gravity of residential density increasing rate has moved to the suburban. Third, the inner district and the district near urban centre will need remodelling or redevelopment project in the near future.

It is focused on the desirable development alternations for sprawled unplanned on mountainous hilly areas in the residential areas development of the rural areas, mainly on the idyllic housing residential areas. The major research findings were as follows : (1) 85% of the idyllic housing residential areas of the suburban rural area was developed on the mountainous hilly areas. (2) For the desirable development on the suburban rural area, Environmentally Symbiosis Land Use Plan, diversification of Housing type such as Earthing Row House, diverse housing site planning techniques considering the conditions of mountainous hilly areas, for common space planning, land development, housing planing, hillside development, should be devised. (3) New regulations of strengthening construction permits, District Plan should be introduced in law and system management.

The goal of this study is to identify the new Architectural type of house and Landscape design pattern of the collective housing area in American garden city, Midlothian near Richmond of Virginia. I had been surveyed old houses of the Virginia and new single family houses and landscape design style of Mariners village to find a different style of houses and lots. The Richmond, capital city of Virginia, is surrounded by five suburban areas and counties. One of them is the Chesterfield where it has main street of Midlothian garden city. The city of Midlothian has a function of residence area both to stay in the forest garden and to go to downtown office of Richmond. There are a lot of collective housing area out of the capital city. I surveyed house form, lots, and site design pattern of the Mariners village in Midlothian. The community of Mariners shows a particular characteristics and harmonious pattern of suburban residence area in a view point of new project. There are three results of this study as follows: First, the types of house in suburban garden city, Midlothian, are focused on vernacular Colonial style with country house, traditional house, and front gable house form which are an unique new American single home. Second, the landscape design of this collective housing area, the Mariners village, has a unity view of residence community, harmony between house and lots, and a sensitive cul-de-sac pattern and loops type with rational land using based on the forest topology. Third, the Mariners village shows that the design concept of landscape architecture has to consider of traditionalism, naturalism, and living condition of residents.

Korea has been striving for the development of the nation in various aspects. It will also have to make an effort for its continued development in the future. The problems of low-income groups that occur in those processes cannot be simply ignored now. It is needed to provide an equal opportunity to low-income groups so that they can be part of the society. The cycle of economic problem should be disconnected through this process. Farm-Housing is one of the solutions to this problem. Its purposes are not only to provide residence in the complex, but to gain income through various activities, such as production, distribution and consumption, and solve part of the economic problems of the people living in the Farm-Housing. To sell the products of Farm-Housing, the neighboring cities need to be designated as a hinterland. For this reason, Farm-Housing needs to be located in the suburban area of large cities. However, the current laws and policies make it difficult to construct Farm-Housing in suburban areas. Presenting plans to solve such problem is the purpose of this paper.
