  • The effect of a finite substrate on the radiation characteristics of a linear 7-element array antenna positioned along the E-plane is investigated. Active reflection coefficients and average active element patterns are simulated for various substrate sizes. The E-plane radiation pattern of a fully excited array for various scan angles is correlated with the active reflection coefficient and average acitive element pattern. The effect of E-plane substrate size on the radiation characteristics of a linear array along the E-plane is larger than that of H-plane substarte size.

  • A directional coupler which on the X-cut $LiNbO_3$ substrate is fabricated by using proton exchange method and self-aligned method. After proton exchange process, the waveguide is formed by annealing process. The relation ship between refractive index change of waveguide and maximum output was studied along with the annealing time. A self-aligned method was used to simplify the fabrication process of the waveguide and to maximize the efficiency of electric field. The on-off state of modulator has been observered with the switching of the directional coupler by the electric field effect and also the switching voltage of the directional coupler has been measured with 8.0 [V].

  • The effect of a finite substrate size on the radiation characteristics of a two-element linear E-plane array antenna using microstrip patch antennas is investigated. The average active element pattern characteristics of two-element E-plane array antennas printed on different dielectric constant substrates with various substrate sizes and element spacings are analyzed. Using the average active element pattern, the radiation pattern characteristics of the array antenna versus scan angle is analyzed. The simulation results show that the diffracted fields of surface waves from substrate edges have a significant effect on the radiation characteristics of a 2-element E-plane array antenna. The distance between the center of patch antenna and the substrate edges on the E-plane for the enhancement of radiation characteristics of the array antenna is about $0.35{\lambda}_0$.

  • Recently, there has been a lot of researches related to two-dimensional (2D) materials due to their new properties and applications emerging upon 2D confinement. A new type of graphene like two-dimensional layer material, nitrogenated holey two-dimensional structure C2N-h2D, that is possession of evenly distributed holes and nitrogen atoms with proper bandgap has been synthesized. Previous calculation studies already have shown that the variance of the orbital interaction, band structure of few-layer C2N-h2D suggests that interlayer coupling does play an important role in its electronic properties. In this point, using first-principles density functional theory calculation, we here explore the effect of porous embedded iron atom and iron substrate on encapsulated few layer C2N-h2D. We show the atomic structures and the corresponding electronic structures of Fe@C2N to elucidate the effect of iron. Finally, this study demonstrates that embedded iron C2N has AA-stacking as most favorable stacked structure in contrast to pure C2N. In addition, iron substrate modifies its encapsulated C2N from semi-metallic states to metallic state.

  • Top synthetic spin valves with structure Ta/NiFe/CoFe/Cu/CoFe(P 1)/Ru/CoFe(P2)/FeMn/Ta on Si (100) substrate with natural oxide were prepared by dc magnetron sputtering system. We have changed only the thickness in free layers and the thickness difference (Pl-P2) in two ferromagnetic layers separated by Ru, and investigated the effect of magnetic film thickness on interlayer coupling field in spin valve with synthetic antiferromagnet. According to the decrease of free layer thickness, interlayer coupling field was increased due to the magnetostatic coupling(orange peel coupling). In case of t$\_$P1/>t$\^$P2/, interlayer coupling field agreed well with the modified Neel model suggested in conventional spin valve structures by Kools et al. However, in case of t$\_$P1/>t$\^$P2/, it was found that the interlayer coupling field was not explained by the Modified Neel Model and was confirmed the necessity of further remodeling. The dependence of Cu thickness on the interlayer coupling field was investigated and 10 Oe of interlayer coupling field was obtained when the Cu thickness is 32 $\AA$.

  • Methacrylate functional silanes with different methylene spacer groups have been synthesized and the orientation effect and absorption behavior of these silane coupling agent were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR). The mechanical properties of glass bead/polyester composites are found to be dependent on the spacer group of treated silane coupling agent. The absorption rate of the silane coupling agent onto the fumed silica surface decreases with increasing the number of the methylene spacer in methacrylate functional silanes. Silane molecules containing long spacer groups are adsorbed onto silica slightly bowed with respect to the substrate surface. The relationship between silane molecular structure and mechanical properties of polymer composites is also investigated in order to improve hot/wet properties of glass fiber/polyester composites.

  • We investigated the effect of different spin direction of anti-ferromagnetic layer on the magnetic properties of ferromagnetic layer in Fe-NiO and Fe-CoO bi-layer systems. For Fe-NiO system, we prepared the clean MgO(001) surface half-covered with 20 nm Ag films as a substrate for magnetic layers. Then we grew NiO wedge layers on the substrate, and added 8 monolayer(ML) Fe layers on the wedge layer. We examined magnetic properties of the bi-layer system using the surface magnetic optical Kerr effect(SMOKE) and X-ray magnetic linear dichroism(XMLD). From SMOKE measurement we observed the coercivity enhancement due to the set-up of anti-ferromagnetic order of NiO films in both of the Fe/NiO/MgO(001) and Fe/NiO/Ag/MgO(001) system. The most remarkable results in our observation is that the coercivity enhancement of Fe/NiO/Ag/MgO(001) is much larger than that of Fe/NiO/MgO(001). XMLD experiments confirmed the out-of-plane spin direction of NiO layers in Fe/NiO/MgO(001) and in-plane spin-direction of NiO layers in Fe/NiO/Ag/MgO(001), and we concluded that the origin of large enhancement of coercivity is due to the strong parallel coupling between Fe layers and NiO layers. We also confirmed that this strong parallel coupling maintained across the thin Ag layer inserted between Fe and NiO layers. For Fe-CoO system, we prepared Fe/CoO/Ag(001) and Fe/CoO/MnO(001) systems and observed much larger coercivity enhancement in Fe/CoO/Ag(001).

  • In this paper, a periodically corrugated transmission line is proposed. The proposed transmission line can reduce crosstalk between transmission lines. The corrugated transmission line can adjust the amount of inductive coupling and capacitive coupling equally. Thus, the crosstalk is effectively reduced because the inductive coupling and capacitive coupling cancel each other. The corrugated transmission line is fabricated on RO4003 substrate with a dielectric constant of 3.38 and a thickness of 0.508 mm. The simulated far-end crosstalks of conventional transmission line and corrugated transmission line with a period of A=1 mm have maximum values of -3.6 dB and -22 dB, respectively, up to 30 GHz. Measurement results showed that far-end crosstalks of the conventional and corrugated transmission line have maximum values of -6.3 dB and -20.5 dB, respectively, up to 30 GHz.

  • Pentachlorophenol(PCP), which is very persistent in soil and water environment, was tried to detoxify with oxidoreductive catalysts(peroxidase, laccase, tyrosinase and birnessite). To find out detoxification of PCP, the transformation of PCP through oxidative coupling was investigated in the presence of various oxidoreductive catalysts. PCP incubated with peroxidase was significantly transformed, however, in case of tyrosinase, the transformation was negligible. Using peroxidase, the optimal reaction condition was pH 5.6 and $16^{\circ}C$. The transformation of PCP was very fast in initiation step until 30 min but, that was not observed after 180 min. The transformation of PCP was increased by increasing peroacidase amount. When the effect of humic monomer was investigated as co-substrate on the transformation of PCP, the transformation of PCP was mostly decreased in the incubation with peroxidase, laccase, and birnessite. The transformation of PCP, however, was slightly increased by the incubation with tyrosinase in the presence of humic monomers as co-substrate, except catechol. On the basis of the results obtained, it may be suggested that PCP is able to be effectively detoxified through oxidative coupling mediated with oxidoreductive catalysts.
