  • This study was conducted to analyze oral health conditions and behaviors of obese people over the age of 19 to identify relevant factors. Using the data of the 6th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 5,632 people were classified by body mass index(BMI). The relationship between drinking, smoking, and oral health status and behavior according to obesity index was analyzed by X2-test and logistic regression analysis. Results showed that men, 60s, low income, low education level and in marriage group were high in obesity. Obese people were related with higher prevalence of periodontal disease and perceived subjective oral health status to be worse. This study will contribute to the development of programs to improve oral health of obese adults. Therefore, it is necessary to induce motivation to improve oral health by regular education through development of customized oral education program for obese adults.

The higher the age, the lower the household income and education level, the worse the subjective oral health had better oral health and there was a tendency that the respondents who had no oral exam within 1 year and experienced CPI or DMFT estimated their own health as worse. It is needed to make policy development to resolve the inequality of oral health.

Methods: Hierarchical logistic regression analysis, an analysis method that controls the input order of a series of independent variables, was performed for 67,835 senior citizens aged 65 and older. Results: In terms of predisposing factors-in women, the higher the level of education, the higher the oral examination practice rate, and the lower the oral examination practice rate in divorce and bereavement among those aged 75 years or older. Regarding enabling factors, the lower the income rating, the higher the oral examination experience rate in religious and social participants as well as, leisure and charity participants, and the lower the oral examination experience rate in the natural environment. Regarding the need factors, the oral examination practice rate was high when the subjective oral health level was recognized as good. Conclusions: As a result, Anderson's model confirmed that various factors affect oral examination experience behavior, and institutional support for policy consensus is needed to promote oral examination experience behavior in older people in various directions.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dental fear experienced among Korean adolescents and to identify the relevant factors. Materials and Methods: In order to compare the level of dental fear depending on the subjects' previous experience, descriptive statistical analysis was performed. Gender- and grade-dependent evaluation was performed according to the presence of their previous dental visit and dental fear. Subjective oral health status was also investigated. In order to determine the factors affecting dental fear, logistic regression analysis was performed. Result: Among the total of 333 subjects who had experienced dental fear, females were found to experience 1.766 times greater dental fear than males (P=0.007). The worse subjective perception of their oral health was associated with increase in the experience of dental fear by 1.245-fold (P=0.047). Conclusion: The dental fear was likely to be formed during the visit to the dentist's office or through previous experience of dental treatment. Therefore in order to reduce the fear associated with dental treatment in adolescents, establishemnt of a proper environment in the dental clinic and a patient management program are necessitated.
