  • Recently, efforts have been made to develop international standards related to 3DTV quality assessment underway in International Telecommunication Union and Video Quality Experts Group. Unlike conventional 2D displays, there are several types of 3D display monitors: passive glasses, active glasses and auto-stereoscopic. In this paper, we performed subjective video quality tests using various 3D display monitors, in order to examine whether these display monitors can produce consistent perceptual video quality scores for processed video sequences. The experimental results show that the subjective scores of those 3D monitors are highly correlated and it appears that similar subjective scores will be obtained even when different types of 3D displays are used.

  • In this paper, we compared two subjective assessment methods DSCQS(Double Stimulus Continuous Quality Scale method) and ACR(Absolute Category Rating). These methods are widely used in order to evaluate video quality for multimedia application. We performed subjective quality tests using DSCQS and ACR methods. The subjective scores obtained by the DSCQS and ACR methods show that these methods are highly correlated in terms of MOS(Mean Opinion Score) and have slightly lower correlation in terms of DMOS(Difference Mean Opinion Score). The results indicate that ACR method is an effective subjective quality assessment method, which shows compatible performance with DSCQS method and can evaluate a larger number of video sequences.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine correlation between subjective oral health status and oral-related appearance satisfaction of college students. 100 college students at a college located in Gyeonggi-do participated in the survey, oral examinations, and self-rated oral hygiene management ability tests. The data was then analyzed accordingly. Methods: Frequency test and chi-square statistical analysis were conducted on general characteristics and subjective oral health status, and SAS version 9.2 was used. Results: As a result of this study, students' subjective perceptions about oral health had positive correlation with oral-related appearance(p <0.05). It is noteworthy that those who responded on 'satisfactory' oral health status indicated that 16% 'unsatisfactory', 28% 'average' and 68% 'satisfactory' on oral-related appearance. Students' self-rated oral hygiene management ability and irregular teeth conditions were also found relevant in causing discomfort in interpersonal activities, whereas students responded 'satisfactory', 0.00%; 'average', 31.82%; 'unsatisfactory' 68.18% (p <0.05). Conclusion: This study suggests that oral-related appearance can have an impact on oral health status and that oral-related appearance can be a contributing factor to improve oral health status and therefore results in promotion of general health. In the future, further research should be considered about perception on oral-related appearance, oral health status and any resulting behavior changes.

  • The auditory experiments based on subjective responses were undertaken for the standard heavy and light weight impact noise and rubber ball impact noise, jumping noise to investigate relations between floor Impact noise levels and subjective responses and to establish the upper/lower limits of floor impact noises. As a result, it was shown that relations between floor Impact noise levels and subjective responses was linear and the lower limit of heavy-weight impact noise was L/sub i, Fmax, AW/=46㏈ and the lower limit of light-weight impact noise was L'/sub n,AW/=56㏈. Finally the 3 subjective classes of floor impact noises were established.

  • The purpose of this study is to see how the sling lumbar stabilization exercise affects muscle body type and subjective pain degree of 17 middle-age men who are diagnosed with sacroiliac joint syndrome and investigate the effectiveness. The subjects of this study are patients who have been diagnosed with sacroiliac joint syndrome through tests like X-ray in S Orthopedics in C City and have had chronic lumbar pain for more than 6 months and the before and after results about subjective pain degree through three dimension Moire Muscle Body Type Tester and subjective pain degree through VAS Pain Awareness after sling lumbar stabilization exercise 3 times a week, 30 minutes a time, total 24 times for 8 weeks have revealed the following: The change of muscle body type has been comprehensively improved in the statistics before and after the exercise and the subjective pain degree has also comprehensively decreased in the statistics. Therefore, sling lumbar stabilization exercise is proved to give positive affect to muscle body type and pain improvement of the patients with sacroiliac joint syndrome.

  • Recently, International Telecommunication Union approved several methods for objective video quality measurements to be included in international standards. These methods are mainly developed to measure quality of digital video on professional CRT monitors. In this paper, we performed subjective tests in order to examine the applicability of the standard quality assessment methods for different display monitors such as common CRT, PDP, and LCD TV monitors as well as professional CRT monitors. Subjective testing on different display monitors shows that there exist relatively high correlations between the various display monitors, which indicates the standard quality assessment methods can be used on the display monitors under the given conditions of subjective duality assessment.

  • In this paper, we propose an objective quality feature which is based on the human auditory system to measure vacuum cleaner noise. It is observed that some frequency bands are more sensitive to the human auditory system. Therefore, we divided the audible frequency range of vacuum cleaner noise into a number of frequency bands and the average energy of these bands was calculated. Among a number of average energies, an average energy of a frequency band was selected as the proposed feature. In order to test the performance of the proposed feature, fourteen vacuum cleaners were chosen and the noise was recorded in an anechoic-chamber. Then we performed subjective tests to obtain subjective scores of the noise data using the PCM (paired comparison method) and ACR (absolute category rating) subjective methods. The proposed objective quality feature shows high correlation with the subjective scores.

  • It is very difficult to acquire high-fidelity flight test data for small airplanes such as typical unmanned aerial vehicles because MEMS-type small sensors used in the tests do not present reliable data in general. Besides, it is not practical to conduct expensive flight tests for low-cost small airplanes in order to simulate their flight characteristics. A practical approach to obtain acceptable flight data, including stability and control derivatives and data of weight and balance, is proposed in this study. Aircraft design software such as Darcorp's AAA is used to generate aerodynamic data for small airplanes, and moments of inertia are calculated using CATIA, structural design software. These flight data from simulation software are evaluated subjectively and tailored using simulation flight by experienced pilots, based on the certified procedures in FAA AC 120-45A and 40B, which are used for manned airplane simulators.

  • The quality of the automatic transmission shift for a wheel loader has been generally evaluated by driver's perception. However the subjective evaluation of the drivers is not always directly related to the shift quality. It is necessary to set up the method for an objective assessment of the shift quality. In this paper, a quantitative assessment method has been developed for the shift quality of the automatic transmission in a wheel loader. The indices for the evaluation were selected through the various tests like the acceleration and the turbine rpm as well as the subjective evaluation of the driver, and were validated by the correlation between subjective and objective assessments using a psychophysical power law. Based on this method, the shift quality of a wheel loader has been evaluated quantitatively under various shift conditions.

  • This paper presents the psychoacoustic analyses on the vehicle interior, noise generated when accelerating. Following the objective quantification for vehicle noises of different classes, the subjective decision process by the jury test is adopted to interrelate these results based on two different approaches. In particular, the paired comparison method is employed in assessing the sound quality in terms of the quietness, the powerfulness, and the pleasantness of the human auditory sensation. Special attention is paid to the physical interpretation of psychoacoutic parameters and their interrelation to the subjective assessment scores. In order to ensure the integrity of statistics of the survey, various tests are performed. The results show that the consistency of the "quiet" sensation is far higher than that of the "powerful" and the "pleasant" sensations. Also, it is found that the most significant parameter determining these feelings turns out to be the inherent loudness of the noise instead of the conventional indicators such as the weighted sound pressure level. It may be concluded that the psychoacoustic analysis offers more realistic evaluation for vehicle noise and assists the improvement of NVH more efficiently.ement of NVH more efficiently.
