  • The vehicle routing problem determines each vehicle routes to find the transportation costs, subject to meeting the customer demands of all delivery points in geography. Vehicle routing problem is known to be NP-hard, and it needs a lot of computing time to get the optimal solution, so that heuristics are more frequently developed than optimal algorithms. This study aims to develop a heuristic method which combines guided local search with a tabu search in order to minimize the transportation costs for the vehicle routing assignment and uses ILOG programming library to solve. The computational tests were performed using the benchmark problems. And computational experiments on these instances show that the proposed heuristic yields better results than the simple tabu search does.

The data were collected through interviews and structured questionnaires. The sujects were 583 elderly people over the age of 65 in Daejeon. Sociodemographic characteristics, living characteristics, housing characteristics, neighborhood environment types, actual usage condition of neighborhood environment, relationship between sociodemographic characteristics and actual usage of neighborhood environment, actual condition of unit interior, were surveyed. The data were analyzed with frequency, percentage, χ²-test, mean using the SPSS package. The major findings were as follows. Features of unit interior which pointed generally were deterioration, soundproofing and size. Features of unit interior which need to be carefully planned were removal of height difference of entrance, removal of the thresholds, installation of emergency bell and room heating control facility. The facilities provided highly within the subject's residential environment were the eldery facility, church, hospital, bank, restaurant, beauty salon/barbershop, supermarket. and the facilities provided lowly were recreational facility, library, elderly school.

  • It is the analyses of replies showed n the questionnaire consisted of four kinds of matters to see level of knowledge among SELIS (SEoul Women's University Library and Information System) OPAC users of keyword/boolean search. The result of this analyses is : in SELIS search, users who prefer keyword search than any other, who satisfy work of retrieval by means of boolean operator, and who think it easier, show lusher level of knowledge than those who deny it in the questionnaire. Knowledges Presented in the survey are ; characteristics of keyword search, single or double keys, using boolean operator in keyword, knowledge of index, knowledge of stop list, uncontrolled term. keyword search technique, right truncation, correct application of boolean logic operator, and selecting major subject in keyword browsing. The above mentioned knowledges will work as important factors n keyword/boolean search, OPAC. For successful search it requires conceptional knowledge of information retrieval processing, or inquiry word transformation how to search required information, and semantic ability to get result questioned In the given system, when and how to apply the characteristics of the system, and scientific record for user's inquiry, or fundamental computer technology and syntax knowledge to make search word in detail. But so far now important knowledge considered as user's online index search, has been emphasized on knowledge of scientific record, and has been lag of semantic and conceptional knowledge. So, it is recommendable for online index user to train to concentrate semantic knowledge, syntax ability, and conceptional knowledge, rather than scientific technique too much.

  • Of the collection of public libraries in Korea, the literature collection is the largest, and Korean fictions, about 14% of the entire collection constitute the largest single subject. However, in the Korean Decimal Classification(KDC) Korean fiction is represented in one section, that is, 813 which corresponds to the only one of thousand divisions. More specifically, only two sub-sections, 813.6 and 813.7 are supposed to be assigned to the huge collection of modern Korean fiction, and, in reality, only 813.6 is being used in most libraries. Even with the use of book numbers, such disproportionate allocation of classification numbers would definitely lower the discriminative capacity of call numbers given to each item. It would also bring about difficulties in both shelving, on the libraries' side, and finding items from shelf, on the users' side. This study aims to examine the issues related to classifying Korean fictions in public libraries, including the composition of KDC schedules and the actual practice of classification, and then proposes the measures for improving the classification of Korean fictions.

  • Research on changes in research trends in academic disciplines is a method that enables observation of not only the detailed research subject and structure of the field but also the state of change in the flow of time. Therefore, in this study, in order to observe the changes of research trend in library and information science field in Korea, co-word analysis was conducted with Korean author keywords from three types of journals which were listed in the Korea Citation Index(KCI) and have top citation impact factor were selected. For the time series analysis, the 15-year research period was accumulated in 5-years units, and divided into 2003~2007, 2003~2012, and 2003~2017. The keywords which limited to the frequency of appearance 10 or more, respectively, were analyzed and visualized. As a result of the analysis, during the period from 2003 to 2007, the intellectual structure composed with 25 keywords and 8 areas was confirmed, and during the period from 2003 to 2012, the structure composed by 3 areas 17 sub-areas with 76 keywords was confirmed. Also, the intellectual structure during the period from 2003 to 2017 was crowded into 6 areas 32 consisting of a total of 132 keywords. As a result of comprehensive period analysis, in the field of library and information science in Korea, over the past 15 years, new keywords have been added for each period, and detailed topics have also been subdivided and gradually segmented and expanded.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the trends of qualitative research in four representative journals in Korean LIS from 1970 to 2016. 73 papers(1.4%) were analyzed focusing on publication year, subject areas, research purposes, authors, qualitative methods, research participants, data collection methods, data analysis methods, and methods of validation. The findings are as follows: 1) Information behaviour(39.7%) was the most researched topics, followed by librarians work(20.5%), and bibliotherapy & reading education(13.6%). 2) The most frequently used research purpose was for understanding experiences(60.2%) and for improving current state(30.1%). 3) 'Grounded theory'(13.6%) and 'phenomenology'(10.9%), 'case study'(10.9%), were used frequently, while 'non-specified qualitative method' was 26.0% and 'not indicated' was 21.9%. 4) Librarians (41.0%) were the most researched participants, followed by professionals(13.6%). To collect qualitative data, in-depth interview(20.5%), interview(13.6%), and in-depth interview & internal documents(9.5%) were frequently used. There are 'loose qualitative research' group and 'scientific qualitative research' group. LIS researchers using qualitative research methods should consistently make efforts to increase qualitative theory and the philosophical assumptions, and to apply rigorous research method (data collection, analysis and interpretation, sampling, data saturation, validity and reliability). Institutionally, It is to provide 'qualitative research methods' course and to develop guidelines and standards for LIS qualitative research authors and reviewers.
