A color filter was demonstrated incorporating a patterned metal grating in a quartz substrate. The filter is created in a metal layer perforated with a symmetric two-dimensional array of circular holes, with the pitch smaller than the wavelength of the visible light. A finite-difference time-domain simulation was performed to analyze the device by investigating the effect of structural parameters like the grating height, the period, the hole size, and the refractive index of the hole-filling material on its performance. The device performance was especially optimized by controlling the refractive index of the material comprising the holes of the grating. And two different devices were fabricated by means of the e-beam direct writing with the following design parameters: the grating height of 50 nm, the two pitches of 340 nm for the red color and 260 nm for the green color. For the prepared device with the period of 340 nm, the center wavelength was 680 nm and the peak transmission 57%. And for the other device with the pitch of 260 nm, the center wavelength was 550 nm and the peak transmission was 50%. The filling of the hole with a material whose refractive index is matched to that of the substrate has led to an increase of ${\sim}15%$ in the transmission efficiency.

Eu(III)-doped $CeO_2$ nanorods were prepared by a co-precipitation method at room temperature, and their photoluminescence profiles were examined with different Eu(III)-doping concentrations and thermal annealing temperatures. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction crystallography and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy were employed to examine the morphology, crystal structure and photon absorption profiles of the nanorods, respectively. Additionally, their 2D and 3D-photoluminescence profile maps were obtained to fully understand the photoluminescence mechanism. We found that the magnetic dipole $^5D_0{\rightarrow}^7F_1$ and the electric dipole $^5D_0{\rightarrow}^7F_2$ transitions of Eu(III) were highly dependent on the doping concentration, annealing temperature and excitation wavelength, which was explained by the presence of different Eu(III)-doping sites (with and without an inversion center) in the $CeO_2$ host with a cubic crystal structure.

Modified illumination techniques have been used to enhance the resolution of the sub-wavelength lithography. But, since they shield the central part of incident light, the light efficiency is seriously degraded, which in turn reduces the throughput of a lithography process. In this research, we introduced an annular illumination structure that enhances the light efficiency with a concentric circular grating at the backside of a photomask. The efficiency of the structure was theoretically analyzed.

We proposed a poly-dimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-coated fiber Bragg grating (FBG) temperature sensor for enhancing temperature sensitivity. By embedding the bare FBG in a temperature-sensitive elastomeric polymer, the temperature sensitivity of the proposed structure could be effectively improved by 4.2 times higher than those of the conventional bare-type FBG sensors due to the high thermal expansion coefficient of the PDMS. We analyzed the temperature-sensitivity enhancement effect with the increased Bragg wavelength shift in our structure and dependence on the temperature sensitivity with respect to the cross-section area of the PDMS.

$SrAl_2O_4$ : $Eu^{2+}$,$Dy^{3+}$ phosphorescent phosphors were synthesized by skull melting method. The molar ratio of oxides in the phosphors synthesized by the skull melting technique was $SrCO_3$ : $Al(OH)_3$ : $Eu_2O_3$ : $Dy_2O_3$= 1 : 2 : 0.015 : 0.02. Crystal structure and surface morphology were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Optical properties of the synthesized $SrAl_2O_4$ : $Eu^{2+}$,$Dy^{3+}$ were measured by photoluminescence (PL) spectrometer for in-depth study on the excitation, emission and afterglow properties. From the PL measurements, it was found that excitation occurred in the wavelength range from 300 to 420 nm with peak position at 360 nm. The emission spectrum showed a broad curve in the wavelength from 450 to 600 nm with peak position at 530 nm. $SrAl_2O_4$ : $Eu^{2+}$,$Dy^{3+}$ phosphors exhibited afterglow properties with emission that lasted for a long period.
Titanium dioxide films were prepared by RF sputtering method on glass for various oxygen partial pressures at power 270 W. The crystal structure, photocatalytic property and the hydrophilicity of $TiO_2$thin film the deposition conditions were investigated. Crystallized anatase phase was observed in $TiO_2$film deposited at the ratio of oxygen partial pressure 10% and 20% for 2 hrs. As the increase of deposition time, the grain size and void size of $TiO_2$film have increased and also $V_2$films have been good crystallinity. The ultraviolet-visible light absorption of $TiO_2$films was increased with increasing of deposition time and occured chiefly at the wavelength between 280 and 340 nm. The absorption band was shifted to a longer wave length as deposition time increased. Water contact angle on the X$TiO_2$film of anatase structure was decreased with increasing ultraviolet illumination time and became lower than $11^{\circ}$ from $83^{\circ}$. When hydrophilic $TiO_2$film changed by enough ultraviolet illumination was stored in the dark, the film surface gradually turned to hydrophobic state.

Nanocrystallized glasses with the composition of $(50-x)BaO-xTiO_2-50SiO_2$ (x=10, 15, 16.7 and 20) have been prepared by heat-treatment at $T_x$ (crystallization onset temperature) for 3 h, and their optical properties, photoluminescence (PL), XRD and Raman spectra have been examined. The absorption edges of the glasses were red-shifted and the absorption coefficient increased with an increase of $TiO_2$. The glass subjected to the heat-treatment showed a dense formation of ${Ba_2}{TiSi_2}{O_8}$ crystals. The XRD and Raman results show that the nanocrystallized glasses formed fresnoite phase up to $TiO_2$ concentrations of 15 mol%. Further-more, blue luminescence with a peak at the wavelength of around 470nm was observed in the nanocrystallized glass, demon strating the optical multifunctional nanocrystallized material such as non-linear optics and photo-luminescence. It is thought that the blue luminescence from the ${Ba_2}{TiSi_2}{O_8}$ nanocrystallized glass originated from the presence of $Ti^{4+}$ incorporated into the fresnoite-type structure.

Integrated-optic asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometer at $1.3{\mu}m$ wavelength and segmented electrode structure were designed and fabricated as a sensing part for the electric-field measurement system. The device was simulated based on the BPM software and fabricated utilizing Ti-diffused $LiNbO_3$ channel optical waveguides and lumped-type electrodes. Almost half-maximum power transmission was observed for asymmetric interferometers with ${\pi}/2$ intrinsic phase difference. Expected experimental measurements were observed for 1KHz electrical signal bandwidth.

$Eu^{3+}$-doped $MgMoO_4$ phosphor thin films were deposited on quartz substrates by radio frequency magnetron sputtering with changing various growth temperatures. The effects of growth temperature on the structure, transmittance, optical band gap, and luminescence of the phosphor thin films were characterized. All the phosphor thin films, irrespective of growth temperature, showed a monoclinic structure with a main (220) diffraction peak. The thin film deposited at a growth temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ indicated an average transmittance of 90% in the wavelength range of 500 ~ 1100 nm and band gap energy of 4.81 eV. The excitation spectra of the phosphor thin films consisted of a broad charge transfer band peaked at 284 nm in the range of 230 ~ 330 nm and two weak peaks located at 368 and 461 nm, respectively. The emission spectra under ultraviolet excitation at 284 nm exhibited a sharp emission peak at 614 nm and several weak bands. All the phosphor thin films showed high asymmetry ratio values, indicating that $Eu^{3+}$ ions incorporated into the host lattice occupied at the non-inversion symmetry sites. The results suggest that the growth temperature plays an important role in growing high-quality phosphor thin films.
A new magnetic semiconductor material was synthesized to enable separation after a liquid-type photocatalysis process. Core@shell-structured $CuFeS_2@TiO_2$ magnetic nanoparticles were prepared by a combination of solvothermal and wet-impregnation methods for photocatalysis applications. The materials obtained were characterized using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet-visible, photoluminescence spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area measurements, and cyclic voltammetry. This study confirmed that the light absorption of $CuFeS_2$ was shifted significantly to the visible wavelength compared to pure $TiO_2$. Moreover, the resulting hydrogen production from the photo-splitting methanol/water solution after 10 hours was more than 4 times on the core@shell structured $CuFeS_2@TiO_2$ nanocatalyst than on either pure $TiO_2$ or $CuFeS_2$.
