  • GOES-9 has been operated with the status of the Image Motion Compensation(IMC) off since last October. As the IMC function turned off, the sub-satellite point(SSP) of GVAR data was changed with the effect of the satellite motions. This makes the image registration, to maintain pixels within an image and between successive images to their earth-referenced information, not to be possible any more. In the paper, we introduce the method to accomplish image registration and the result of the SSP observation with the status of IMC off.

  • Global Positioning System (GPS) Precise Point Positioning (PPP) has been extensively used for geodetic applications. Since December 2012, BeiDou navigation satellite system has provided regional positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) services over the Asia-Pacific region. Recently, many studies on BeiDou system have been conducted, particularly in the area of precise orbit determination and precise positioning. In this paper PPP method based on BeiDou observations are presented. GPS and BeiDou data obtained from Mokpo (MKPO) station are processed using the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) PPP software. The positions are derived from the GPS PPP, BeiDou B1/B2 PPP and BeiDou B1/B3 PPP, respectively. The position errors on BeiDou PPP show a mean bias < 2 cm in the east and north components and approximately 3 cm in the vertical component. It indicates that BeiDou PPP is ready for the precise positioning applications in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition, BeiDou tropospheric zenith total delay (ZTD) is compared to GPS ZTD at MKPO station. The mean value of their difference is approximately 0.52 cm.

  • Recently the interferometric synthetic aperture radiometer with sub-Y-type antenna array was suggested to improve the spatial resolution than that of conventional Y-type with the same number of antenna elements. The sub-Y-type performance has been reported under a point source target. In this paper, the performance of sub-Y-type is evaluated under contiguous objects. The angular resolution of sub-Y-type with 52 antennas was compared with that of Y-type with the 40 antennas. The images of sub-Y -type and Y-type array were simulated under the contiguous objects. The sub-Y-type showed higher resolution than Y-type in the simulation and experiments. The sub-Y-type has high spatial resolution than Y-type in case of contiguous source as well as single point source.

  • The practice of identifying the potential zones for mineral exploration in a speedy and low-cost method includes the use of satellite imagery analysis as a part of remote sensing techniques. It is challenging to explore the iron mineralization of a region through conventional methods which are a time-consuming process. The current study utilizes the Hyperion satellite imagery for mapping the iron mineralization and associated geological features in the Irikkur region, Kannur, Kerala. Along with the remote sensing results, the field study and laboratory-based analysis were conducted to retrieve the ground truth point and geochemical proportion to verify the iron ore mineralization. The MC simulation showed for shielding properties indicate an increase in the linear attenuation coefficient with raising the Fe2O3+SiO2 concentrations in the investigated rocks where it is varied at 0.662 MeV in the range 0.190 cm-1 - 0.222 cm-1 with rising the Fe2O3+SiO2 content from 57.86 wt% to 71.15 wt%. The analysis also revealed that when the γ-ray energy increased from 0.221 MeV to 2.506 MeV, sample 1 had the largest linear attenuation coefficient, ranging from 9.33 cm1 to 0.12 cm-1. Charnockite rocks were found to have exceptional shielding qualities, making them an excellent natural choice for radiation shielding applications.

  • The stereo geometry establishment based on the precise sensor modeling is prerequisite for accurate stereo data processing. Ground control points are generally required for the accurate sensor modeling though it is not possible over the area where the accessibility is limited or reference data is not available. For the areas, the relative orientation should be carried out to improve the geometric consistency between the stereo data though it does not improve the absolute positional accuracy. The relative orientation requires conjugate points that are well distributed over the entire image region. Therefore the automatic conjugate point extraction is required because the manual operation is labor-intensive. In this study, we applied the method consisting of the key point extraction, the search space minimization based on the epipolar line, and the rigorous outlier detection based on the RPCs (Rational Polynomial Coefficients) bias compensation modeling. We tested different parameters of window sizes for Kompsat-2 across track stereo data and analyzed the RPCs precision after the bias compensation for the cases whether the epipolar line information is used or not. The experimental results showed that matching outliers were inevitable for the different matching parameterization but they were successfully detected and removed with the rigorous method for sub-pixel level of stereo RPCs precision.

  • This paper presents a S-band phased array antenna system for receiving LEO satellite telemetry signals. The proposed antenna, which is performed to be beam-tiled along the elevation direction, consists of 16 sub-array assemblies, 16 active circuit modules, a perpendicular feed network and a control/power unit. In order to precisely track an LEO satellite, the developed antenna is placed with its elevation axis along the projected trajectory of the satellite on the earth. The center of antenna aperture is facing to the maximum elevation angle in the LEO trajectory. The beam-tilted angles for tracking LEO satellite are obtained by calculating accurately satellite points. Satellite tracking measurements are carried out in the range of ±30° with the respect to the maximum elevation angle. The S/N ratio of 16.5 dB and the Eb/No of 13.3 dB at the maximum elevation angle are obtained from the measurements. The measured result agrees well with the pre-analyzed system margin.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient resource allocation scheme for the integrated satellite/terrestrial networks. The proposed scheme is a frequency sharing technique to mitigate the inter-component interferences which can be generated between a satellite beam and terrestrial cells that are operated in the same frequency. The proposed dynamic resource allocation scheme can mitigate the total inter-component interference by optimizing the total transmission power and it can expect a result of which can lead to an increase in capacity. In such a system, the interference situation can be affected by the distributed traffic demands or up/down link communications environments. In this point of view, we evaluate the performance of the total consumed power, the amount of inter-component interference with respect to different traffic distributions and interference environments between the satellite beam and terrestrial systems.

  • Since 2014, MOLIT (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport) is carrying out a KASS project to develop and construct Korean SBAS. KASS can cause damage of human & properties if it has some problem during operation. Therefore, system safety assessment for KASS development is very important. Principal point of system safety assessment is the allocation of DAL(design assurance level) based on the hazard identification and classification. In this parer, the author conducts the allocation of DAL for KASS & its sub-systems based on the international standard(SAE ARP4761), which suggests a best practice of aviation system safety assessment. The result of this paper are the first step of system safety assessment, and can be used for further system safety assessment of KASS project.

  • In this paper presents a new approach to evaluate reliability indices of electric distribution systems using genetic Algorithm (GA). The use of reliability evaluation is an important aspect of distribution system planning and operation to adjust the reliability level of each area. In this paper, the reliability model is based on the optimal load transferring problem to minimize load generated load point outage in each sub-section. This approach is one of the most difficult procedures and become combination problems. A new approach using GA was developed for this problem. GA is a general purpose optimization technique based on principles inspired from the biological evolution using metaphors of mechanisms such as natural selection, genetic recombination and survival of the fittest. Test results for the model system with 24 nodes 29 branches are reported in the paper.
