Dissolved oxygen is considered as one of the important water-quality constituents in streams from one century ago and fishes perish in low dissolved oxygen concentration. Environmental scientists and engineers have introduced the deterministic model to estimate dissolved oxygen concentration of streams and recommended the use of the Delta Method (DM), Approximate Delta Method (ADM), Extreme Value Method (EVM) and Optimization Method (OPT) which can be applied in no spatial variation of dissolved oxygen. The diurnal or annual variation of dissolved oxygen is mainly determined from the parameters such as reaeration rate, 1st production rate and respiration rate which are related to dissolved oxygen. Each method was briefly introduced and applied to two sampling sites of Anseong Stream watershed in this paper. The limitation, advantages and disadvantages of each method were reviewed and analyzed after running the each method. From these analyses, the benefit-cost approach to estimate dissolved oxygen effectively in streams was recommended.

The geomorphological environment of Suwon Basin consists of two great elements: mountains which surround the basin and plains and low relief hills by differential erosion of granitic area. Nothern and eastern parts of the basin surround with gneissic mountains(Mt. Kwangkyo), southern and western parts of the basin with granitic mountains(Mt. Chilbo, etc). The basin developed on granitic saprolites is composed of two types of sub-order geomorphic elements: flood plains alongside four river(Whangkuji-chon, Seoho-chon, Suwon-chon, Wonchonri-chon) and aligned hills and mounts between the river side plains. While the low down lands provided the spatial condition for the extention of downtown of Suwon, the gneissic mountains have played the positive roles by high ecological dam effects with stable supply of water and purification of air, etc.
This paper focuses on the reduction method of message traffic occurred when multiple participants collaborate in the distributed virtual environment. It is referred to as filtering method of update message to minimize data traffic exchanged in the virtual environment, and it is the essential process to improve the scalability of the virtual environment. Spatial partitioning method, a popular filtering technique, divides the whole environment into smaller sub-parts in order to make it small the regions to be maintained consistently. However, it is less flexible and adaptable because the information of area of interest must be configured before simulation. In this paper, the concept of dynamic area of interest is proposed, which is highly adaptable by applying dynamic environmental elements to AOI management. It uses multiple layering and multiple consistency algorithms for dynamic management, and makes it possible to consume system resource efficiently. For performance evaluation, experiments are performed with virtual avatars, measuring message traffic. Finally, the proposed model could be applied to the AOI management systems which accommodate massive users like MMORPG, or virtual communities.

In order to predict nutrient circulation in Hakata bay, we have developed an ecosystem model named the Sediment-Water Ecological Model (SWEM). The model, consisting of two sub-models with hydrodynamic and biological models, simulates the circulation process of nutrient between water column and sediment, such as nutrient regeneration from sediments as well as ecological structures on the growth of phytoplankton and zooplankton. This model was applied to prevent eutrophication in Hakata bay, located in western Japan. The calculated results of the tidal currents by the hydrodynamic model showed good agreement with the observed currents. Moreover, SWEM simulated reasonably well the seasonal variations of water quality, and reproduced spatial heterogeneity of water quality in the bay, observed in the field. According to the simulation of phosphorus circulation at the head of the bay, it was predicted that the regeneration process of phosphorus across the sediment-water interface had a strong influence on the water quality of the bay.
The aims of this study are to construct database using geostatistics and Geographic Information System (GIS), and to derive the spatial relationships between manganese nodule abundance and each factor affecting nodule abundance, such as metal grade, slope, aspect, water depth, topography, and acoustic characteristics of the subbottom using the GIS and probability methods. The greater is the copper and nickel grade, the higher is the rating. The distribution pattern of nickel grade is similar to that of copper grade. The slopes are generally less than $3^{\circ}$, excluding seamounts and cliff areas. There is no increment in the rating with increasing slope. The rating is highest for slopes between 2.5 and $3.5^{\circ}$ in block B2 and between 3 and $6^{\circ}$ in block C1. The topography is classified into five groups: seamount, hill crest, hill slant, hill base or plain, and seafloor basin or valley. The ratings prove lowest for seamount and hill crest. The results of the study show a decrease in the rating with an increase in water depth in the study area. There was a poor relationship between manganese nodule abundance and the thickness of the upper transparent layer in block C1. Using GIS, it is possible to analyze a large amount of data efficiently, and to maximize the practical application, to increase specialization, and to enhance the accuracy of the analyses.
Korean societies have been experiencing the wholesale structural changes in the rapid currents of recent openness, globalization and democratization, which effect much more heavily in rural areas than in urban areas, so rural recomposition works being an important national concern. In order to systematically reconstruct the rural structure, the decision makers, with a four step hierarchy of rural resident-residents group-community-region, should be endowed with the objective judgement on basic elements of resource potentialities under their control. In this process. rational resource evaluation works would be firstly necessiated from expert groups. Based on the view mentioned above, this study principally aimed at developing a rational evaluation framework for rural resources. For that objective, the first step of the study pigeonholed the total resources items identifiable in rural areas from the existing study results, spatial planning and field surveying data. After then, using the formalized classification criteria of resources items, a tentative goal system for rural resources evaluation was proposed and the final one determined through expert-group checking. The results obtained during the study are summarized as follows ; 1. Using the existing examples of resources identification/classification and the basic data list for county-level development planning as the principal reference ones, total rural resources elements were classified into 3 constituent units : land, natural environment and human resources, which correspond to places to work, to play and to live, respectively, as 3 constituent ones of life-supporting space. 2. Three characteristic areal types were adopted to represent the total rural areas : lowland, upland and seashore areas, and also 3 practical use types to represent the objectives of resources evaluation systems : for land use planning, natural conservation policy and village improvement planning. Thus 9 different types of goal system for resources evaluation were developed(each system by 3 areal typesX3 practical use types) 3. Each goal system has 3-tier classification steps from the higher, middle and lower one. The higher and middle steps should contain equally applicable components to all the rural areas, of which allowable number being around 3 and 4 respectively. However the lower step would contain detailed sub-components changeable to areal characteristics of which allowable number being around 7.
The purpose of this study is to find the factors affecting the location of a Starbucks coffee shop by using multiple regression analysis. This study is based on location theory and the data for this analysis was collected from 522 retail real estate leases in Seoul. The results of the study are as follows. First, the most important factors affecting the location of a Starbucks coffee shop are monthly rent, deposit money, and goodwill value. Second, the number of firms & employees, local economic base, location characteristics, goodwill value, the deposit money, and monthly rents affect on the location of a Starbucks coffee shop in Seoul. Third, the result shows that deposit money, monthly rents, goodwill value, and numbers of business firms are important in the process of selecting the coffee shop location.
Satellite images that have been obtained periodically and continuously are very effective data to monitor the changes of Earth's surface. Traditionally, the studies on change detection using satellite images have mainly focused on comparison between two results after analyzing two images respectively. However, the interests in researches to catch smooth trends and short duration events from continual multi-temporal images have been increased recently. In this study, we introduce and test an approach based on 3D wavelet transform to analyze the multi-temporal satellite images. 3D wavelet transform can reduce the dimensions of data conserving main trends. Also, it is possible to extract important patterns and to analyze spatial and temporal relations with neighboring pixels using 3D wavelet transform. As a result, 3D wavelet transform is useful to capture the long term trends and short-term events rapidly. In addition, we can expect to get new information through sub-bands of 3D wavelet transform which provide different information by decomposed direction.

In the present study, the dispersion characteristics of hydrogen leakage from a Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) were analyzed by numerical simulation in order to assess the risk of a hydrogen leakage incident in a long road tunnel. In order to implement the worst case of hydrogen leakage, the FCV was located at the center of a tunnel, and hydrogen was completely discharged within 63 seconds. The Leakage velocity of hydrogen was adopted sub-sonic speed because that the assumption of the blockage effect of secondary device inside a vehicle. The temporal and spatial evaluation of the hydrogen concentration as well as the flammable region in a road tunnel was reported according to change of ventilation operating conditions. The hydrogen was blended by supply air form a ventilation fan, however, the hydrogen was discharged to outside in the exhaust air. It is observed that the efficiency way to eliminate of hydrogen is supply air operating condition under the hazardous hydrogen leaking incident. The present numerical analysis can be provided useful information of ventilation under the hydrogen leaking situation.

In this paper, we propose a synthesis method that can effectively suppress the ambience which affects tonal components in the PS decoder. Ambience component was obtained by using decorrelation filter and the weighting of the ambience in the decoder was determined through IC parameter. However, since the parameters are extracted in the sub-band domain, a low IC value could be analyzed even if the tonal component is dominant. The quality of the output signal may be degraded. To prevent this problem, the tonality was measured in the downmixed signal and the weighting of the ambience components were adjusted appropriately according to the measured tonality index. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated by simulations. Furthermore, the subjective test was performed and the results confirmed that the proposed method offers improved quality.
