그라프트화 전분의 제조: 중합방법에 따른 스티렌 그라프트 효율 (Preparation of Grafted Starch: Effect of Polymerization Method on Grafting Efficiency of Styrene)

  • 전분의 친수성 및 반응성을 조절하기 위하여 propylene oxide, 1,2-epoxybutane, glycidyl methacrylate, maleic anhydride, caprolactone 등을 반응시켰으며 건조되지 않은 전분을 사용할 경우 propylene oxide, maleic anhydride 외에는 반응 수율이 아주 낮아지는 것이 관찰되었다. 이렇게 개질된 전분을 스티렌과 반응시켜 그라프트 공중합물로 전환하였으며 여러가지 중합방법에 대한 그라프트 수율이 비교되었다. 그라프트 중합반응의 경우 용액중합 및 cerium(IV)이온에 의한 중합은 각각 낮은 효율과 수율을 보였다. 현탁중합 방법으로는 전분 입자의 친수성 때문에 폴리스티렌으로 전분을 encapsulation 하기가 어려웠으며, 유화중합이 스티렌을 그라프트 시키기에 제일 적당한 방법임을 알 수 있었다.

Screening from the Genome Databases: Novel Epoxide Hydrolase from Caulobacter crescentus

  • The genome sequences from several microbes have led to the discovery of numerous open reading frames of unknown functionality. The putative bacterial epoxide hydrolase (EH) genes selected from the genome databases were examined for their activities toward various epoxides. Among the nine open reading frames (ORFs) from four microbial species, the ORF from Caulobacter crescentus showed an epoxide hydrolase activity. The kinetic resolution, using C. crescentus EH (CCEH) of the aryl epoxides such as styrene oxide, could be performed more efficiently than short aliphatic epoxides. The resolution of racemic indene oxide, which could previously be resolved only by fungal epoxide hydrolases, was effectively accomplished by CCEH.

  • Regioselective perfluorinated isoxazolidine (5 and 7), isoxazoline (9) and 1,2-addition products (6 and 8) having a long alkyl chain functionality have been prepared by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between a 1,3-dipole (NH-nitrone or nitrile oxide) and dipolarophile (perfluoro-2-methyl-2-pentene or styrene), respectively. Interestingly, unusual extended conjugated form of isoxazoline adduct (10) was obtained by dehydrofluorinated reaction from the corresponding perfluorinated isoxazoline adduct (9) which was derived from cycloadition between the perfluorinated long alkyl nitrile oxide 1,3-diplole and styrene olefin. This synthetic methodology of heterocyclic compound having a long alkyl chain functionality is useful for the designing of synthetic strategy and potential self-assembled monolayers (SAM) application. These derivatives were characterized by IR, $^1H$ and $^{19}F$ NMR, and MASS analysis.

수중의 리튬 이온 회수를 위한 새로운 흡착제인 SAN-LMO 비드의 제조 (Adsorption Characteristics of Lithium Ions from Aqueous Solution using a Novel Adsorbent SAN-LMO Beads)

  • In order to recover lithium ions from aqueous solution, a novel SAN-LMO beads were prepared by immobilizing lithium manganese oxide (LMO) with styrene acrylonitrile copolymers (SAN). The optimum condition for synthesis of SAN-LMO beads was 5 g of LMO and 3 g of SAN content. The characterization of the prepared SAN-LMO beads by SEM and XRD were confirmed that LMO was immobilized in SAN-LMO beads. The removal and the distribution coefficient of lithium ions decreased with increasing lithium ion concentration and solution pH. Even when the prepared SAN-LMO beads were reused 5 times, the leakage of LMO and the damage of SAN-LMO beads was not observed.

  • Reduced graphene oxide (RGO)를 수용성 고분자인 poly(styrene sulfonate) (PSS)로 wrapping한 수분산성 그래핀 치환체인 G-PSS와 전도성 고분자인 poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT/PSS)의 복합화에 관하여 연구하였다. G-PSS의 존재 하에서 PEDOT/PSS의 제자리 화학 중합 반응을 수행하여 복합체(GP)를 얻었다. 생성물의 XPS, IR 및 Raman 분석을 통하여 모노머인 EDOT의 중합이 원활하게 진행되어 PEDOT/PSS가 생성됨과 동시에 그래핀과 복합화되었다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 GP는 $4.46{\times}10^2S/m$의 전도도를 나타냈으며, 0.5%의 농도까지 물에 분산이 되어 G-PSS보다 전기적 특성 및 수분산성 모두 우수하였다.

Dehydrogenation of Ethylbenzene to Styrene with CO2 over TiO2-ZrO2 Bifunctional Catalyst

  • In the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene, CO2 could play a role as an oxidant to increase conversion of ethylbenzene and stability as well over TiO2-ZrO2 mixed oxide catalysts. TiO2-ZrO2 catalysts were prepared by co-precipitation method and were characterized by BET surface area, bulk density, X-ray diffraction, temperature programmed desorption of NH3 and CO2. These catalysts were found to be X-ray amorphous with enhanced surface areas and acid-base properties both in number and strength when compared to the respective oxides (TiO2 and CO2). These catalysts were found to be highly active (> 50% conversion), selective (> 98%) and catalytically stable (10 h of time-on-stream) at 600 oC for the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene. However, in the nitrogen stream, both activity and stability were rather lower than those in the stream with CO2. The TiO2-ZrO2 catalysts were catalytically superior to the simple oxide catalysts such as TiO2 and ZrO2. The synergistic effect of CO2 has clearly been observed in directing the product selectivity and prolonging catalytic activity.
