The purposes of this study were to investigate the effects of variability of training on the acquisition of motor skill of closed loop type tracking task using Rotary Pursuit, and to determine if there was a bilateral transfer effect to the non-dominant hand following practice with the dominant hand. Twelve healthy volunteer students (5 males and 7 females, aged 25 to 37) were randomly divided into a constant practice group and a variable practice group. A photoelectric rotary pursuit apparatus with stop clock and repeat cycle timer by Lafayette Instrumentation Co. was used for this study. Rotary pursuit is a closed loop task in which a subject attempts to keep a photoelectric stylus on a lighted target in motion. Subjects performed the clockwise circular pursuit task while standing. Experimental procedure was divided into three sessions, namely, pre-test, training, and post-test. The constant group practiced all 60 trials at 30 rpm. Variable practice group did a varied practice session with 15 trials at speeds of 20 rpm, 26 rpm, 34 rpm, and 46 rpm. No one in either group practiced with their non-dominant arm. A Mann-Whitney test and a Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test were used for statistical analyses. The results of this study showed no different training effect between groups on the post-test with the dominant hand. However, bilateral transfer effect of rotary pursuit task between hands was demonstrated. Possible mechanisms are discussed.

The purpose of this study was to present the method to choose the optimization machining condition for the wire electric machine. This was completed by examining the ever- changing quality of the material and by improving the function of the wire electric discharge machine. Precision metal mold products and the unmanned wire electric discharge machining system were used and then applied in industrial fields. This experiment uses the wire electric discharge machine with brass wire electrode of 0.25mm. To measure the precision of the machining surface, average values are obtained from 3 samples of measures of center-line average roughness by using a third dimension gauge and a stylus surface roughness gauge. In this experiment, we changed no-node voltage to 7 and 9, pulse-on-time to $6\mu\textrm{s}$, $8\mu\textrm{s}$ and $10\mu\textrm{s}$, pulse-off-time to $8\mu\textrm{s}$, $10\mu\textrm{s}$ and $13\mu\textrm{s}$, and experimented on wire tension at room temperature by 1000gf, 1200gf, and 1400gf, respectively

The main cause of die failure in hot forging is wear. Die wear directly generates the gradual loss of part tolerances, thereby causing deterioration in the dimensional accuracy of a forged part. It is very important to estimate forging cycles, called as die life, at which the die should be repaired or replaced. In this study, in order to estimate the hot forging die life, the finite element simulation of wear on an asymmetric part like a ball joint socket used in vehicle was carried out based on Archard's model. Finite element simulation results were compared with wear amounts of a used die that were measured using a contact stylus profilometer. The simulation results were in relatively good agreement with measurements obtained from the virtual die which was used by 7,000 forging cycles in a forging industry. Consequently, the die life in the hot forging of the ball joint socket was estimated by 10,500 forging cycles on the finisher die.

Recently, in precision working, precision is in submicron. Therefore, when we measure various finished goods in superfine measurement, because it is relatively difficult to disregard effect of surroundings, these effect of surroundings must be compensated or canceled. In this study, for roundness measurement, three point method is researched which is able to cancel the effect of rotation accuracy of axis and eccenricity of workpiece. It is difference between this three point method and tradi- tional three point method whose measuring apparatus have three movable pickups posit- ioned with angle and between the pickups. As a results, when rotation accuracy of axis is varied from $0.02\mu\textrm{m}$ to $0.05\mu\textrm{m}$ the width of variation of measured roundness is $0.04\mu\textrm{m}$. And, when eccentricity of workpiece is varied from 0 to $4\mu\textrm{m}$, the width of variation of measured roundness is $0.005\mu\textrm{m}$. These error width are disregardable because they are in 10% of measured roundness. Therefore, by this three point method, the effect of rotation accuracy of axis and the effect of eccentricity of workpiece are canceled. And we are able to select the angle between the pickups ($\phi$ and $\tau$) by means of relation between $F_{k}$ and K.

One of the major limitations of productivity and quality in metal cutting is the machining accuracy of machine tools. The machining accuracy is affected by geometric and thermal errors of the machine tools. Therefore, a key requirement for improving te machining accuracy and product quality is to reduce the geometric and thermal errors of machine tools. This study models geometric error for error analysis and develops on-machine measurement system by which the volumetric erors are measured. The geometric error is modeled using form shaping function(FSF) which is defined as the mathematical relationship between form shaping motion of machine tool and machined surface. The constant terms included in the error model are found from the measurement results of on-machine measurement system. The developed on-machine measurement system consists of the spherical ball artifact (SBA), the touch probe unit with a star type stylus, the thermal data logger and the personal computer. Experiments, performed with the developed measurement system, show that the system provides a high measuring accuracy, with repeatability of ${\pm}2{\mu}m$ in X, Y and Z directions.

This paper describes a method for digitizing the compound surfaces which are comprised of several unknown feature shapes such as base surface, and draft wall. From the reverse engineering's point of view, the main step is to digitize or gather three-dimensional points on an object rapidly and precisely. As well known, the non-contact digitizing apparatus using a laser or structured light can rapidly obtain a great bulk of digitized points, while the touch or scanning probe gives higher accuracy by directly contacting its stylus onto the part surface. By combining those two methods, unknown features can be digitized efficiently. The paper proposes a digitizing methodology using the approximated surface model obtained from laser-scanned data, followed by the use of a scanning probe. Each surface boundary curve and the confining area is investigated to select the most suitable digitizing path topology, which is similar to generating NC tool-paths. The methodology was tested with a simple physical model whose shape is comprised of a base surface, draft walls and cavity volumes.

Recently, the trend in the printing industry includes shorter run lengths and with fast turnaround times. As new markets have made it possible to produce small quantities of high-quality color products at affordable price, the general commercial printing meets the customer's diverse demand by using spot color besides process four colors. Especially, by using spot color for printing the enterprise's logo or specific color, we can see the effect of printing is getting better. With the combination of the right software, ink, media, and device can be treated as a digital proofer for spot color printing, providing significant time and cost savings compared to conventional procedures. The objective of this study is to investigate the quality of spot color proofs printed by ink-jet and dye sublimation proofer using ICC-based color management system. An Epson Stylus Color 3000 ink-jet proofer combined with Best Color Proof XXL RIP was tested for glossy and matte paper. 3M Rainbow dye sublimation proofer was examined using 3M Rainbow controller ver. 4.1 RIP on the manufacturer recommended proofing paper. ICC profiles were generated for each device using ECI 2002 visual target and evaluated for the accuracy of process 4 color reproduction. The test charts consisting of Pantone color 1140 was selected to test the quality of spot color reproduction.
Ten subjects who were going to wear conventional complete dentures were selected for this study. Theree subjects were women and seven were men. The average age was 63.1 years(range : 44 to 76 years). With the Height tracer (extraoral tracing device) in place the subject was instructed to go through the entire range of mandibular movements. The extreme lateral pathway of the incisor point, the so-called Gothic arch, was thereby inscribed by the stylus on the tracing plate. The mandibular movements in this study were peformed voluntarily by the subject(self guided technique) and guided by the dentist(chin-point technique and bimanual technique). The Gothic arch tracings were analysed and the Gothic arch angles and eccentric movement distances were measured. The results were as follows : 1. The apex position of the Gothic arch tracings of mandibular movements in edentulous patients varied both anterioposteriorly and mediolaterally. 2. The Gothic arch tracing had some lateral deviation during protrusion. 3. The average Gothic arch tracing angle was $136.7{\pm}12.0^{\circ}$ by subjects self guided technique, $135.7{\pm}5.9^{\circ}$ by chin-point technique, $136.6{\pm}6.5^{\circ}$ by bimanual technique. But there were no statistical differences in the reliability among the three techniques. 4. The average mandibular eccentric movements were irregular and the mandibular eccentric movement distances varied with a wide range.
The writing systems of the Silla dynasty, the Kugyol(口訣), had influenced the earlier states of Japanes Kunten(假片) during the 8th century. Japanese developed their own writing system, Kunten(訓点) after the 9th century. The Silla Kugyol was inscribed by Gagpil(角筆), a kind of ancient stylus, which seems to be originated in China and India. There are two main streams of Asian script culture. One is from China: a brush-pen culture for East asian calligraphy, named Seoye(書藝) or Seodo(書道). The other is from India: a tusk-pen culture for inscribing Buddha's words. In Korean peninsular, we can find the traces from Buddist texts inscribed by the Gagpil, a tusk-pen. We can find new writing system in the books of the Silla, penod, Panbilyanglon(判比量論), Hwaeommuneuiyogyol(華嚴文義要訣) etc. The scripts inscribed by gagpil was a totally phonetic system with dots and lines etc., like Hangul strokes was invented by I king Sejong 800 years later. The old system was used until 15th century before the invention of Hangul scripts.
