Background: This study aimed to investigate the effects of department satisfaction and career maturity on the perceived health status, relationship, and self-efficacy of dental hygiene college students based on Alderfer's existence-relationship-growth theory. Methods: We obtained convenience samples of dental hygiene students in Daejeon and Chungnam areas; 241 questionnaires were collected from 250 persons considering the dropout rate and used for the final analysis except for 9 careless responses. The differences in perceived health status, relationship, self-efficacy, department satisfaction, and career maturity according to general characteristics were analyzed using a t-test, one-way analysis of variance and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Moreover, structural equation modeling was performed to confirm the variables. GFI, AGFI,CFI, RMR, RMSEA, TLI, and NFI indices were calculated to verify the fitness of the path model. Results: There were significant differences in self-efficacy, department satisfaction, career maturity according to grade, and significant differences in academic performance for all variables except relationship. The school system also had a significant effect on department satisfaction. Perceived health status, relationship, self-efficacy, department satisfaction, and career maturity demonstrated statistically significant positive correlations (p<0.05). The factors affecting department satisfaction were relationship and self-efficacy. The indirect and total effects of perceived health status and relationship on career maturity were not statistically significant; however, the indirect and total effects of self-efficacy on career maturity were statistically significant. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop teaching methods according to student management plans for dental hygiene by comprehensively perceived health status, relationship, and self-efficacy affecting department satisfaction and career maturity.

It is reported that self-help education is effective to increase self-efficacy for the patients with chronic illness. Also self-efficacy Is proved to be an Important variable to effect the physical and psychological health state. Based upon this theoretical framework, KRHPS (Korean Rheumatology Health Professions Society) has administered for 2 years the self-help education increasing self-efficacy for the patients with arthritis. The group had a weekly session for 6 weeks. During the session, self-efficacy was increased by 1) actually performing a behavior, 2) listening to other patients talking about a successful experience or seeing other patients performing a behavior, 3) Instructor's or another patient's verbal persuasion, and 4) physiological cues experienced by themselves. Every group had 4-15 participants and 2 instructors. Data were collected by self-administered questionaire for 211 out of 361 participants. One hundred and fifty two subjects were analyzed because of missing values. As a result, it was confirmed that self-help education was effective to increase self-efficacy and self-efficacy was an important variable to Improve pain, depression, and ADL. Also it may fairly be said that nurses were right health-professionals to lead self-help groups for the patients with chronic illness. So it is important to facilitate many other self-help education for the patients with chronic illness.
This study aims to compare self- and peer-assessments of science-gifted elementary students' scientific creativity. A science-gifted program on the Pascal's principle was implemented to 40 fifth-graders in the Science-Gifted Education Center for two weeks. After that, students presented their results from a scientific creativity task using the principle in class. The task was to devise a new and useful tool using the principle, and it included the students' self-assessment about their idea. During presentation, students were asked to assess the works of peers and write down the reasons that they gave the scores they gave. Shortly, student self- and peer-assessments about students' scientific creativity outcomes were compared. Based on two essential components of creativity, ideas that satisfy both originality and usefulness can be counted as scientifically creative. The main results of this study are as follows: First, the average scores of student self- and peer-assessments were 71.5 and 61.9. Second, the standard deviations of student self- and peer-assessments were 14.47 and 5.79. Third, among scientific creativity, originality, usefulness scores, only originality had a significant correlation between student self- and peer-assessment (r=.42). Fourth, the students were categorized into four groups according to the levels of their scores by student self- and peer-assessment. And the frequencies of peer-assessment group had a significant difference at p<0.05 level, according to self-assessment group (Chi Square=4.0000, df=1, p=0.0455). Fifth, through a case study by group, the results suggesting that self-assessment could be affected by the students' self-efficacy and perfectionism and such effect could also influence peer-assessment have been found. The result showed that how the student self- and peer-assessment of scientific creativity are different and what the students' thoughts on the evaluation of scientific creativity are. The findings suggested that there are several things to consider for the educators to make efforts to construct consistent assessment methods for scientific creativity.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the self-efficacy, depression, and health promotion behaviors of nursing and non-nursing female college students, and to develop a program to improve the health promotion behaviors of female college students. Methods: One hundred sixty-six females (84 nursing, 82 non-nursing) college students participated in the study. Data collection was conducted between November 20 and December 8, 2017. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$ test, ANCOVA, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression analysis with the SPSS/WIN 22.0. Both nursing and non-nursing college students showed a positive correlation between health promotion behaviors and self-efficacy, and there was a negative correlation between health promotion behaviors and depression. Self-efficacy was the most influential factor in health promotion behaviors for both nursing and non-nursing female college students. Conclusion: In order to improve the health promotion behaviors of female college students, it is necessary to educate individuals to help them improve their self-efficacy and be able to maintain healthy lifestyles by perceiving and managing their own health conditions.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the mediating effect of learning immersion in clinical simulations on the relationship between nursing student learning motivation and achievement in clinical simulation. Methods: This study was conducted using a cross-sectional survey with 184 nursing students from two universities who participated in clinical simulation between September and December 2022. The participants completed a self-administered questionnaire, and the collected data were analyzed using independent an independent t-test, Mann-Whitney U-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis to identify the mediating effects of learning immersion on the relationship between nursing student learning motivation and achievement. Results: Among the subvariables of nursing student learning motivation, task value and self-efficacy for learning and performance had a significant effect on learning immersion (respectively, β=.36, p=.001; β=.31, p<.001) and learning achievement (respectively, β=.48, p<.001; β=.38, p<.001). With the input of learning motivation variables, the direct effect of learning immersion on learning achievement was significant (β=.20, p=.003), and the effects of learning motivation and task value and self-efficacy on learning achievement was reduced after controlling for learning immersion, which is a mediating variable (respectively, β=.41, p<.001; β=.32, p<.001). The bootstrapping test to confirm the mediating effect of learning immersion was also significant (task value 95% confidence interval [95% CI], 0.02~0.20; self-efficacy 95% CI, 0.01~0.12). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that simulation educators should consider learners' motivation and immersion when organizing and operating clinical simulations.
