Predicting the noise radiated from vibrating structures is important in the automotive, aerospace, construction equipment, and defense industries. In this paper, a numerical implementation of the boundary element method in solving the Helmholtz integral equation for radiated noise prediction is presented. To predict the noise emitted by vibrating structure, the developed code can use the results from a structure analysis performed by a multi-purpose structural finite element code like ANSYS and directly measured data by non-contact vibration sensor like Laser Doppler Vibrometer. To verify the accuracy of developed code, two kinds of verification are perfomed. Firstly, the computer code used the harmonic analysis results of ANSYS in simple model and try to match with SYSNOISE. After matching with simulation results, the code compared with the result from SYSNOISE which used the velocity data from the LDV measurement with different number of points. The performance of the developed code for vibro-acoustic noise prediction is presented using the experimental results of the non-contact sensor
It is well known that tire tread pattern has much influence on the tire pattern noise. The paper describes the method of pattern noise reduction by using the pitch sequence, both on the smooth asphalt roads and on the trenched concrete roads. The noise of tire is classified as either airborne or structure borne noise. Pattern noise through the airborne is considered as a major noise source at high speeds. As block impacting and air pumping by tread patterns are major noise source, tire pattern noise can be greatly influenced by optimal pitch sequence. The goal of this paper is to provide tire engineers with pitch sequence to reduce pattern noise effectively.
Controlling the exterior and interior noise emission has become an important issue in the research and development of high speed trains. As the operating speed of the train increases, the noise emission characteristics are expected to deviate from that of the existing trains due to several changes in the basic train layout. For train speed in excess of 350 km/h in particular, the aerodynamic noise component starts to exceed the structure-borne noise component, and even an incremental speed increase is accompanied by a rapid elevation in the noise level. The present study presents an engineering approach for predicting the aerodynamic noise level at the design stage for high speed trains. The experimental noise measurements from test run of Korean high speed train under development are presented as a partial validation of the proposed approach. While the overall aerodynamic noise can be cast in a single power law relationship against the train speed, different parts of the train show power law relationships unique to each component.
The vibration of slab causes a sudden change of air pressure in the interface between slab and air to create structure home sound. Floor impact noise induced from the vibration of slab became one of the hottest social issues in these day, and it took the biggest parts of the cause of damage in environmental dispute. Because the structure borne sound of slab is different from the dynamic characteristic of slab, it is required more precise vibroacaustic analysis. In this study, we was trying to understand by what mechanism the slab noise is induced from the slab vibration and the relationship between the dynamic propety of slab and the noise is shown by the numerical simulation.
The noise characteristics of multi-purpose dive support vessel show the different patterns such as types of noise sources, accommodation arrangement and etc due to its operation. Especially, the tunnel and retractable thruster for the dynamic positioning should be considered at the noise analysis. The floating floor is selected as the main measure of noise reduction and is constructed at the deck near the noise sources. In this paper, the noise analysis of dive support vessel is based on the estimation of noise sources and floating floor and SEA (Statistical Energy Analysis) is used for analysis of the air-born noise and structure-borne noise. The noise analysis of air conditioning system is also carried out and the noise results of cabin room are reviewed.
Caliper intergrated Electric Parking Brake (EPB) is an automatic parking brake system, attached to rear caliper. Because EPB uses luxury vehicles recently, the drivers of vehicles are sensitive to the EPB noise. EPB is operated by the motor and gear, so noise is generated by motor and gear. In order to reduce noise, One of EPB manufacturers uses helical gear and changes the shape of EPB housing. But these methods are not optimized for reduction of interior noise. There are many noise transfer paths into vehicle interior and it is difficult to identify the noise sources. Therefore, in this study, we performed contribution analysis and modal testing in the vehicle system. It is possible to distinguish between air-borne noise and structure-borne noise in the vehicle interior noise by comparing interior noise peak with resonance mode map.
A rigid body supported by 4 linear springs has been analyzed, to investigate the effects of eccentricities on the vibration responses for naval shipboard equipments supported by elastic mounts. Considering mount eccentricity (the location of the center of spring reaction forces relative to the mass center) and excitation force eccentricity (the location of the center of the excitation force relative to the mass center), the vibration phenomena have been formulated and discussed. Also, the effects of the eccentricities have been evaluated and discussed for the elastically mounted naval shipboard equipment. Results show that the mount eccentricity has little effects on the structure-borne noise above the natural frequency of the system, however the excitation force eccentricity has significant effects all over the frequency range.
An optimization formulation is proposed to minimize sound pressures in a two-dimensional cavity by controlling the attachment area of unconstrained damping materials. For the analysis of structural-acoustic systems, a hybrid approach that uses finite elements for structures and boundary elements for cavity is adopted. Four-parameter fractional derivative model is used to accurately represent dynamic characteristics oJ the viscoelastic materials with frequency and temperature. Optimal layouts of the unconstrained damping layer on structural wall of cavity are identified according to temperatures and the amount of damping material by using a numerical search algorithm.
