  • The purpose of this thesis is to analyze empirically the relationship between market structure, measured by Herfindahl-Hershmann Index(HHI), and financial factors, and innovation in Korean industry panel datasets for 2000-2006. Results show that debt ratio and scale of the firm has a consistent positive effect on the investment in research and development. As more scale of the firm is getting bigger, the investment in R&D decrease. Also, as more debt ratio of firm rise, the investment for innovation increase. Concentration ratio, the HHI and the classification factor of High-tech industry and Low-tech industry has a consistent positive effect on the innovation. Factors affecting the investment in research and development include market structure and characteristics of industry as well as the internal affairs of the firm.

  • This paper describes a comprehensive approach to examine how technological innovation contributes to the renewal of a firm's competences through its dynamic and reciprocal relationship with R&D and product commercialization. Three theories of technology and innovation (the R&D and technological knowledge concept, product-process concept, technological interdependence concept) are used to relate technology and innovation to strategic management. Based on these theories, this paper attempts to identify the dynamic relationship between product innovation and process innovation using system dynamics by investigating that aspect of the dynamic changes in the closed feedback circulation structure in which R&D investments drive the accumulation of technological knowledge. Further, such knowledge accumulation actualizes product innovation and process innovation, subsequently resulting in an increase in productivity, customer satisfaction, profit generation, and.

  • This paper explores the relationship between technological characteristics within process innovation and selection of the firms of different organizational forms in the evolution of an industry. For this purpose, this paper develops a simulation model for industrial change that replicates dynamic competition for process innovation. The simulation analysis found the following causal relationship. First, the stronger innovation impact in terms of productivity jump tends to enlarge the productivity difference among the incumbent firms and increase the speed of productivity catch-up by the large diversified firms, Second, the possibility of entry, and eventual dominance by the large diversified firms increase when the innovation-productivity linkage is stronger and there is less cumulativeness in productivity determination. These results imply that technological characteristics are important factors that have influence on whether or not the large diversified firms can enter and succeed in an industry.

  • It is getting more intensified with the competition among participating companies for global market share in major industrial fields. The situation is accelerating especially within the top 5 market share, and these include electric vehicles, semiconductors, chemicals, and shipbuilding industries. The key to the advantage over the competition within a strategic group is which company leads the innovation in the field. On-the-ground innovation refers to job-based innovation. This paper aims to analyze job unit innovation in the structure of empowerment, LMX, and job crafting. Existing studies on job crafting have suggested a causal structure based on job design in the traditional sense, and there are not many scholars who study the causal structure using a job situational model. Therefore, this paper takes an approach from the perspective of the job situation. As a result of the study, LMX showed a moderating effect on the relationship between autonomy provision and job crafting. While, in the relationship between meaing-giving and cognitive crafting, there is no significant moderating effect shown on the relationship between autonomy provision and cognitive crafting. Therefore, the results of the analysis in this study suggest that the meaning of jobs and participation in decision-making should be managed in an integrated way in structural and design areas, not just qualitative factors such as empowerment and leadership.

  • In this paper, we have designed and fabricated a hybrid ring coupler to prove the fabrication possibility of various passive components, applying millimeter wave using newly proposed transmission lines, i.e. BAMLs. The characteristics of the fabricated hybrid ing coupler were a the S31(coupling) of 3.58 dB, the S21(thru) of 3.31 dB at the 60 GHz center frequency, the S11(return loss) over 16.17 dB, S41(isolation) over 55 dB at 61 GHz, and the phase difference between port 2 and port 3 of $180{\pm}loat$ 60GHz. In order to reduce the size of hybrid ring coupler, we designed the hybrid ring coupler which inserts a slow wave structure. With this structure, we were able to reduce the hybrid ring coupler by $33\%$ area.

  • We have designed the waveguide to microstrip transition using a probe structure for the center frequency of 200 GHz transceiver. The waveguide to microstrip transition is composed of probe, taper and microstrip transmission line. For design of the transition, we simulated the lengths and width of the probe and the taper to optimize the center frequency and the bandwidth using HFSS simulation tool from Ansoft. The transition is designed back-to-back structure. From the simulation results, the transition exhibits that insertion loss is below - 0.81 dB and the return loss less than -10 dB in range of 186 ~ 210 GHz.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify trends and to analyze knowledge structure and knowledge flow of studies on science and technology policy adopting the keyword network analysis. For analysis, we established a data set of published papers in the Journal of Korea Technology Innovation Society and Journal of Technology Innovation from 1993 to 2016. As a result of analysis, a great part of existing researches have been carried out in Seoul and Daejeon area, universities and public research institute. So it should be carried out in diversified form rather than being concentrated on specific regions or research performing subjects in the future. By research scope, more than 70% of research were carried out in 'R&D management' and 'technology innovation'. In the future, more research must be carried out in 'public process of science and technology' and 'public management of science and technology'. On the other hand, we performed the keyword network analysis to identify the knowledge structure of studies on science and technology policy. As a result of analysis, it was clustered into 'public process of science and technology', 'public management of science and technology', 'R&D management' and 'technology innovation', So It has not been different from research scope proposed by Yi, Kim and Oh(2016). And also, in earlier stage, research topics were general such as researchers and R&D investment. But as time goes by, topics were more diversified and subdivided. Therefore, in future, the research scope of studies on science and technology policy should be further expanded in terms of 'public process of science and technology', 'public management of science and technology', 'R&D management' and 'technology innovation', and systematic knowledge structure should be formed.

  • A continuous development of new products is the lifeblood for firms that hope to maintain competency in competitive environments. Ongoing success in these environments is dependent on whether the management can choose or can't chose the proper mix of new product development strategy, new product development process, and organizational structure. Rather than considering the interrelationship among these success factors, however, most previous studies of new products development have examined these issues individually. Moreover, because past research has been unidimensional in nature, there is a lack of knowledge about how new product development strategy, process, and structure could be linked up each other. Consequently, we have no complete perspective of the linkage among new product development strategy, process, structure, and performance. The purpose of this study is to examine the new product development strategy, process, and structure of firms, and explore the effect of each on performance as well as linkage among strategy, process, strategy and structure.

  • This paper summarizes the research results on the structural characteristics of the Korean innovation system. The Korean NIS has functioned well in the foreign technology imitation stage. However, there are many drawbacks to advancing to the stage of technological innovation. Weak infrastructure and linkages among technological institutions are detrimental factors that affect technological innovation. The immobility of professional manpower is a serious bottleneck to knowledge diffusion. Especially, the inactivity of university research prevents universities from being able to play a relevant role in the national innovation system. The drawbacks of the Korean innovation system are mainly associated with the public sector and social culture. Weak linkages among organizations are due to the lack of trust among people and organizations, and absence of demand-oriented management in public institutes. Weaknesses in technological infrastructure, university research and the social and cultural environment are tile result of the lack of government will. However, the private sector was evaluated as being relatively active in innovation. Particularly, Chaebols deployed aggressive strategies to acquire their own technological capabilities. The findings of this study suggest that to strengthen the Korean innovation system, the government continues to be important, as in the past, in order to shape social institutions and a culture that is learning friendly, diffusion friendly and, consequently, innovation friendly.
