  • Incremental launching method is one of the highly competitive techniques for construction of concrete bridges. It avoids costly and time consuming form work and centralizes all construction activities in a small casting yard, thus saving in cost and time against conventional bridge construction. From the quality point of view, it eliminates the uncertainty of monolithic behaviour by allowing high repetitiveness and industrial environment. But, from analysis and design point of view, the most characteristic aspect of incrementally launched bridges is that, it has to absorb the stresses associated with the temporary supports that are gradually taken on by the deck during its launch. So, it is necessary to analyse the structure for each step of launching which is a tedious and time consuming process. Effect of support settlements or temperature variation makes the problem more complex. By using transfer matrix method, this problem can be handled efficiently with minimal computational effort. This paper gives insight into method of analysis, formulation for optimization of the structural system, effect of support settlement and temperature gradient, during construction, on the stress state of incrementally launched bridges.

  • Ionizing Radiation effects on MOS devices provide useful information regarding the behavior of MOS based devices and circuits in the electronic instrumentation parts and instructive data for making the high sensitive sensors. The study presents the results of the analysis on the structural characteristics of MOS capacitor for sensing the ionizing radiation effect. We performed numerical modeling of Ionizing-radiation effect on MOS capacitor and simulation using Matlab program. Also we produced MOS capacitors and obtained useful data through radiation experiment to analyse the characteristic of ionizing radiation effect on MOS capacitor. Increasing the thickness of MOS capacitor's oxide layer enhanced the sensitivity of MOS capacitor under irradiation condition, but the sensitivity of irradiated MOS capacitor is uninfluenced by the area of MOS capacitor. The high frequency capacitance of the MOS capacitor is found to be strongly affected by incident ionizing radiation.

  • The dynamic properties of primary-secondary structural systems are examined using analytical expressions for the modal properties. The analysis begins with a Lagrange multiplier formulation to develop a characteristic equation in terms of primary system mobilities and secondary system impedances. The complexity of the characteristic equation by developing new method, frequency window method. It is shown that the reduction of complexity can only be obtained by a reduction of accuracy, but by retaining the dominant effects of the dynamics problem, the loss of accuracy is not excessive. The reduced problem is examined further to develop simple expressions for the modal properties which provide insight into the resonance characteristics of the primary-secondary system problem. The results are useful as a complement to existing computational techniques for understanding and interpreting dynamic analysis results.

  • A probabilistic-Fuzzy model for seismic hazard analysis is developed. The proposed model is able to reproduce both the randomness and the imprecision in conjunction with earthquake occurrences. Results-of this research are (a) membership functions of both peak ground accelerations associated with a given probability of exceedance and probabilities of exceedance associated with a given peak ground acceleration, and (b) characteristic values of membership functions at each location of interest. The proposed probabilistic-fuzzy model for assessment of seismic hazard is successfully applied to the Wasatch Front Range in Utah in order to obtain the seismic maps for different annual probabilities of exceedance, different peak ground accelerations, and different time periods.

  • It can be said that rock mass properties are characterized not by a mean value but by values with variation due to its characteristic uncertainty. This characteristic is one of the most important parts for the design of underground structures, but yet to be fully examined. Stochastic finite element method (SFEM) has been developed in order to take the randomness of structural systems into account. Using SFEM, the response variability of structural system can be obtained and it leads probabilistic stability of structure to be analyzed. In this study, displacements response variability of circular opening with hydrostatic stress field are analyzed in terms of rock mass properties having a certain mean and a standard deviation using the SFEM. The analyzed response variability shows that the necessity of probabilistic stability analysis of underground structures using reliable mean value and standard deviation of deformation modulus.

  • In the recent field of 5-axis machine tools, it is necessary to improve machining ability. The tilting index table is a key unit in order to manufacture some non-rotational and 3-dimensional parts by using conventional machining centers. In this study, the structural analysis of a tilting index table is carried out and the displacement and distribution of stress in the tilting index table is analysed to design the table safely. The modal analysis is performed in order to confirm the frequency response about the vibration having a large effect on the machine tools. The dynamic analysis is performed in order to confirm the rigidity, and the structural stability has been verified.

  • In today's industry, the butterfly valve has been used to control a flow effectively. However, it is difficult to have the existing structural optimization using field analysis from CFD to structure analysis when the structure is influenced by fluid. Therefore, an initial model of this study is to evaluate the stability of the valve using FEM and CFD. And, it selected variable using initial analysis results. Also, it accomplished the shape optimization design using the orthogonal arrangement and characteristic function. Research result, a few experiments showed the optimal results of there dimensional structures to be multi-objective.

  • This study predicts the modified structural eigenvector and eigenvalue due to the change in the mass and stiffness of 2-dimesional continuous system by iterative calculation of the sensitivity coefficient using the original dynamic characteristic. The method is applied to examples of a crank shaft by modifing the mass and stiffness. The predicted dynamics characteristics are in good agreement with these from the structural analysis using the modified mass and stiffness. • The optimal seismic retrofitting of NPP(Nuclear Power Plant) cabinet structures that contained class 1 relays were studies in this paper. During earthquake event, the failure modes of relays are not appeared in form of structural failure, but are appeared in form of contact chatter of relay. Therefore, the retrofitting of cabinet has to be aimed to the reducing of the structural response, such as acceleration. In this study, the optimal characteristic values of dampers were searched by μ-GA (micro-Genetic Algorithm) scheme for several installation patterns. To keep accuracy and efficiency of analysis, the structural models of cabinet were considered as a frame structure. The responses of structure were obtained in form of acceleration response spectra derived from the results of nonlinear time history analysis including damping nonlinearity. The fitness function of the optimum procedure was constructed based on the ratio of maximum spectral value and target GERS (General Equipment Ruggedness Spectra). The results show the good improvements of fitness fur adequate retrofitting pattern. Especially, the improvements of fitness were remarkable when the damping exponents are proper.
