The inhibition/influences of adenine compounds on the heart have been described repeatedly by many investigators, since the first report by Druny and Szent-Gyorgyi [1929]. These studies have shown that adenosine and adenine nucleotides have an over-all effect similar to that of acetylcholine [ACh] by slowing and weakening the heartbeat. The basic cellular and membrane events underlying the inhibitory action of adenosine on sinus rate, however, are not well understood. Furthermore, the physiological role of adenosine in regulation of the heartbeat remains still to be elucidated. Therefore, this study was undertaken in order to examine the response of rabbit SA node to adenosine and to compare the response to that of ACh. Isolated SA node preparation, whole atrial pair, or left atrlal strip was used in each experiment. Action potentials of SA node were recorded through the intracellular glass microelectrodes, which were filled with 3M KCI and had resistance of 30-50 M. All experiments were performed in a bicarbonate-buffered Tyrode solution which was aerated with 3% $CO_2-97%$$O_2$ gas mixture and kept at $35^{\circ}C$. Spontaneous firing rate of SA node at 35C [Mean + SEM, n=16] was 154 + 3.3 beats/min. The parameters of action potentials were: maximum astolic potential [MDP], -731.7mV: overshoot [OS], 9 + 1.4mV; slope of pacemaker potential [SPP], 94 3.0mV/sec.Adenosine suppressed the firing rate of SA node in a dose dependent manner. This inhibitory effect appeared at the concentration of $10^{-6}M$ and was potentiated in parallel with the increase in adenosine concentration. Changes in action potential by adenosine were dose-dependent increase of MDP and decrease of SPP until $10^{-4}$. Above this concentration, however, the amplitude of action potential decreased markedly due to the simultaneous decrease of both MDP and OS. All these effects of adenosine were not affected by pretreatment of atropine [2mg/l] and propranolol [$5{\times}10^{-6}M$]. ACh [$10^{-6}M$] responses on action potential were similar to those of adenosine by increasing MDP and decreasing SPP. These effects of ACh disappeared by pretreatment of atropine [2mg/1]. Inhibition/effects of adenosine and ACh on sinus rate were enhanced synergistically with the simultaneous administration of adenosine and ACh. Marked decrease of overshoot potential was the most prominent feature on action potential. Dipyridamole [DPM], which is known to block the adenosine transport across cell membrane, definitely potentiated the action of adenosine . Adenosine suppressed the sinus rate and atrial contractility in the same dosage range, even in the reserpinized preparation. Above` results suggest that adenosine suppresses pacemaker activity, like ACh, by acting directly on the membrane of SA node, increasing MDP and decreasing SPP.
Present paper is attempted to introduce the phenomenon of 'after contraction' in isolated cardiac-muscle. Papillary muscles were removed from cat right ventricle and were used as a preparation. The muscle strip was Placed in tissue bath which is kept in steady temperature of around $25^{\circ}C$ and was perfuced by Tyrode solution, saturated with 95% $O_2$ and 5% $CO_2.$ under the condition of high calcium (8.2-10.0 mM/l), low sodium (72.4-70.0 mM/l) perfusion with the administration of epinephrine (1-2 mg/l) into tile tissue bath normally triggered muscle contraction was followed by oscillatory, repetitive contractions - after contraction. The phenomenon of after contraction was augumented by decrease in tissue bath temperature and by increase in number of preceding beats and in driving rate. Authors were able to maintain the phenomenon in prominent and steady state giving proper experimental conditions such as fixed bath temperature (ranged from $22^{\circ}C\;to\;27^{\circ}C$), suitable driving rate (20 per minute in average) and perfusion of high calcium, loll sodium and 1-2 mg/l of epinephrine. In some preparations, the strength of after contraction (second contraction) reached up-to 80% of normally triggered contraction and five repetitive contractions were observed as largest number of after contractions. Intracellular action potential measured in the muscle which was beating regulary showing steady after contraction revealed no oscillating after potential in most parts of the muscle but in few cases oscillating changes of after potentials were detectable. In electrogram of the muscle preparation recorded by means of contact electrode prominent, oscillating after potentials were observable when the recorder was set at highest sensitivity. It still is not clear that whether after contraction is the phenomenon which corresponds to those changes in action potential, oscillating after potential, of the muscle preparation. Possible mechanism of the phenomenon of after contraction relating with after potential changes was proposed. Detailed results obtained from further studies on after contraction and concrete discussion on the phenomenon will be reported by authors.
An experimental study was done to investigate the spontaneous movements to the isolated ileum with liquid extracts of Samchulgunbitang. Then the action of gastric ulcer, gastric-juice secretion, the free acidity, total acidity, pepsin output, the transport ability in the intestine, analgesic effect and sleeping time were measured. The following results were obtained; 1. As to the spontaneous movements in the isolated ileum, the effect of contraction against suppression was recognized. 2. The effects of contraction against suppression induced by acetylcholine chloride and barium chloride were recognized on the gastric funds strip significantly. 3. The preventive effect of Samchulgunbitang on the pylorus-lightedulcer in rat was recognized significantly. 4. The anti-ulcer effect of Samchulgunbitang was not recognized on the gastric ulcer caused by indomethacin. 5. The effects of decreasing on the secretion gastric juice, the free acidity, total acidity and pepsin output of Samchulgunbitang were recognized significantly. 6. The transport rate in the small intestine of Samchulgunbitang was decreased. 7. The transport rate in the large intestine of Samchulgunbitang was increased. 8. The analgesic effect of Samchulgunbitang caused by acetic acid was recognized significantly. 9. The sleeping time caused by pentobarbital-Na of Samchulgunbitang was prolonged significantly. According to the results, it is considered that the Samchulgunbitang has effects of gastric ulcer, chronic gastritis, hyper-acidity, gastroptosis such as abdominal discomfort, gastric acid, indigestion and anorexia.

For copyright protection of digital contents, we employ watermarking techniques to embed watermark signals into digital host data. In this paper we propose an adaptive watermarking algorithm for three-dimensional (3-D) mesh models. Watermark signals are inserted into vertex coordinates adaptively according to changes of their position values. While we embed strong watermarks in the areas of large variations, watermarks are weakly inserted in other areas. After we generate triangle strips by traversing the 3-D model and convert the Cartesian coordinates to the spherical coordinate system, we calculate variations of vertex positions along the traversed strips. Then, we insert watermark signals into the vertex coordinates adaptively according to the calculated variations. We demonstrate that imperceptibility of the inserted watermark is significantly improved and show the bit error rate (BER) for robustness.

In this study, ammonia removal characteristics in membrane contactor system under various operating conditions were evaluated. The mass transfer coefficient was used to quantitatively compare the effect of various operation conditions on ammonia removal efficiency. Effective removal of ammonia was possible with the tubular PTFE membrane contactor system at all tested conditions. Among the various operation parameters, contact time and solution pH showed significant effect on ammonia removal mechanism. Overall ammonia removal rate was not significantly affected by influent suspended solution concentration unlike other pressure driven membrane filtration processes. Also the osmotic distillation phenomena which deteriorate the mass transfer efficiency can be minimized by preheating of strip solution. Membrane contactor system can be a possible alternative to treat high strength nitrogen wastewater by optimizing operation conditions such as stripping solution flow rate, influent wastewater temperature, and influent pH.
The planting pattern of Seoul street tree could be divided into six patterns, that was, one row, double row, median strip type and bicycle road type. The protection facilities of installed street tree was inadequate, because it was so small and weak. Recently, the growth rate of street tree in Seoul was decreasing because of air pollution. Strong alkali soil proved to be inappropriate for the growth of street tree. Soil hardness of treepit equipped with treegrill was lower than unequipped one. From the analysis of correlation between the growth environments of street tree, we could conclude that the vitality of street tree are proportioned to the distance from the center of Seoul. The way of improvement for physiological growth and increase of street tree were as follows; establishment reform of street facilities, the installation of protection equipment, continuous and systematic management.

In this study, the characteristics of nonpoint pollutant outflow and contribution rate of pollution in Songya-stream mainstream and tributaries were analyzed. Further, water pollution management and improvement measures for pollution-oriented rivers were proposed. An on-site investigation was conducted to determine the inflow of major pollutants into the basin, and it was found that pollutants generated from agricultural land and livestock facilities flowed into the river, resulting in a high concentration of turbid water. Based on the analysis results of the pollution load data calculated through actual measurement monitoring (flow and water quality) and the occurrence and emission load data calculated using the national pollution source survey data, the S3 and S6 were selected as the concerned pollution tributaries in the Songya-stream basin. Results of cluster analysis using Pearson correlation coefficient evaluation and Density based spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN) technique showed that the S3 and S6 were most consistent with the C2 cluster (a cluster of Songya-stream mainstream owned area) corresponding to the mainstream of Songya-stream. The analysis results of the major pollutants in the concerned pollution tributaries showed that livestock and land pollutants were the major pollutants. Consequently, optimal management techniques such as fertilizer management, water gate management in paddy, vegetated filter strip and livestock manure public treatment were proposed to reduce livestock and land pollutants.

Experimental study has been performed in order to construct the standard test methods and appraisal criteria by investigating the influence of specimen types(property, width, layers) and loading rate on the tensile characteristics of FRP used in strengthening RC structures. The FRP composite tested in this study are the unidirectional CFRP sheet/strip and the bidirectional GFRP sheet. Test variables consist of the various width ranging from 10mm to 25mm and number of CFRP sheets plied up to 5 layers. Test results indicated that maximum tensile strength and minimum coefficient of variation are recorded at each different width according to the fiber types and weaving directions. Also, the average tensile strengths of CFRP sheets are decreased as the number of layer of CFRP sheet are increased.
Recently, foundations of heavy structures such as bridge abutments have been built on slopes or near the crest of slopes at an increasing rate. Because the bearing capacity of such foundations is considerably lower than the bearing capacity of the same soil on a level ground, deep footings such as piles and caissons are often used. However, the costs of such methods are generally very high. One of the new techniques to overcome the problem is to place reinforcing members such as geosynthetics or metal strips horizontally at some depths beneath the footings. Rational methods of analysis to predict the bearing capacity of footings in reinforced slopes are therefore needed. This paper proposes an analytical method for estimating the increase in bearing capacity gained from the included horizontal strips or ties of tensile reinforcing in the foundation soil below the footing built near the crest of a slope. A failure mechanism, including the concept of'wide slab effect', adopted in the present study for analyzing the bearing capacity of foundations in reinforced slopes, is established through the observed model test behaviors described by Binquet SE Lee and Huang et al, and the Boussinesq solutions. The analytical results are then compared with the experimental data described in the paper by Huang et al. Also in order to properly evaluate the soil reinforcement interaction, typical pullout test values of the apparent friction coefficient, which usually vary with depths owing to both the increase of the shearing volume and the increase in local stress caused by soil dilatancy, are analyzed and related functionally. Furthermore, analytical parametric studies are carried out to investigate the effect and significance of various pertinent parameters associated with design of reinforced slope foundations. The effects of noradrenaline on the contractile and electrical activities were investigated using the circular muscle strips with intact mucosa prepared from the antrum and fundus of guinea-pig stomach. Electrical responses of circular muscle cells were recorded using glass capillary microelectrodes filled with 3 M KCI. All experiments were performed in tris-buffered Tyrode solution which was aerated with 100% $O_2\;and\;kept\;at\;35^{\circ}C$. The results obtained were as follows: 1) The spontaneous contractions recorded from the antral and fundic circular muscle strips with intact mucosa were suppressed dose-dependently by the application of noradrenaline, whereas those recorded from the mucosa-free strips were potentiated in a dose-dependent manner. 2) The inhibitory influences on the contractile activities in the normal intact strips were developed via both ${\alpha}-adrenoceptors\;and\;{\beta}-adrenoceptors$, while the excitatory influences in the mucosa-free strips resulted from the strong excitatory effect via ${\alpha}-adrenoceptors$ and the weak inhibitory effect via ${\beta}-adrenoceptors$. 3) Noradrenaline produced hyperpolarization of membrane potential, and increased the amplitude and the maximum rate of rise of slow waves in the mucosa-free strips of antral and fundic circular muscle. 4) Apamin blocked the appearance of the component of initial suppression of spontaneous phasic contractions observed in the mucosa-free strips of antral circular muscle after the application of noradrenaline. 5) The inhibitory influences on the contractile activities in the normal strips with intact mucosa remained unaffected even in the strip with separate mucosa, in which mucosa and muscle layer were mechanically disconnected . From the above results, following conclusions could be made. (1) There are no regional differences between the effects of noradrenaline on the antral circular muscle and those on the fundic circular muscle. (2) Excitatory responses to noradrenaline observed in the mucosa-free strip result from the dominant ${\alpha}-excitatory$ and tile weak ${\beta}-inhibitory$ action of noradrenaline. (3) Inhibitory responses to noradrenaline in the normal strips with intact mucosa develop via both ${\alpha}-inhibitory\;and\;{\beta}-inhibitory$ actions.
