This paper deals with the free vibrations of circular strip foundations which have uniform solid rectangular cross-section. The ground which supports circular strips was modeled as the two parameter elastic foundation. Differential equations governing the flexural-torsional free vibrations of circular strips supported by such foundation were derived, and solved numerically for obtaining the natural frequencies and mode shapes. Boundary condition of free-free ends was considered for numerical examples. Four lowest natural frequencies according to the variations of five system parameters i.e. subtended angle, depth ratio, contact ratio, elasticity ratio and soil parameter are reported in the non-dimensional forms. Also, typical mode shapes of both deformations and stress resultants are presented in the figures. Experiment was conducted for validating the theory developed in this study.

Since micropiles were conceived in Italy in the early 1950s, which have been widely used for In-situ reinforcement, bearing pile or the concept of combination in the world-wide. The meaning of micropiles usually differs from that of a general deep foundation. Because the load capacity of it was mainly affected by skin friction. Also, it could be obtained the improvement effects of load capacity or ground's rigidity by the unitary behavior of ground and micropiles. In this study, The model tests were peformed on the dense sand where micropiles are set to the vertical direction. Strip footing was used in it. Steel bars of dia. 2 and 4㎜ were used in model tests of which the sand was attached on the surface, and the length of it was changed as 2B to 6B(where, B is width of strip footing) Through this process, the load capacity were analyzed from the test results in the relationship between load and displacement.

In recent years, world has witnessed many man-made activities related to both above and underground blasts. Details on behaviour of shallow foundations subjected to blast loads and induced liquefaction is scarce in literature. In this paper, typical shallow strip foundation in saturated cohesionless soils subjected to both above and underground blasting have been simulated by using finite difference based numerical model FLAC3D. Peak particle velocity (PPV) has been obtained to propose critical values for which bearing capacity failure for shallow foundations with soil liquefaction can occur. Typical results for pore pressure ratio (PPR) for various scaled distances are compared to PPR values obtained by using empirical equation available in literature which shows good agreement. Critical design values obtained in the present study for PPV and PPR to estimate the scaled distance, bearing capacity failure and liquefaction susceptibility can be used effectively for design of shallow strip foundation in cohesionless soil subjected to both above and under ground blast loads.

In this paper, two dimensional analytical infinite elements which can include multiple wave components to model a underlying half-space are developed. Since these elements are expressed clearly and simply using Legendre polynomials of frequencies in frequency domain, these are very economical and efficient in computing the responses of strip foundations in frequency domain and are easily transformed for SSI analysis in time domain. To prove the behavior of the proposed two dimensional analytical infinite elements, vertical, horizontal, and rocking compliances of a rigid strip foundation in layered soils are analyzed and compared with those of Tzong ' Penzie $n^{(17)}$ and with those which calculated by numerical infinite elemen $t^{(1)}$ in frequency domain, and good agreements are noticed between them. As an application for a further study, a new scheme for SSI analysis in time domain are proposed and verified by comparing the displacement responses of the soil with a underlying rock due to a rectangular impulse loading with those of a soil modeled extended FE meshes.soil modeled extended FE meshes.

Background: Different genioplasty techniques are applied for the adjustment of chin area deformities such as chin deviation. Results: Thirty patients with simple facial asymmetry due to chin deviation underwent computer-assisted horizontal translational osseous genioplasty. In this technique, a surgical guide was used to cut a bone strip from the side where the chin should be transferred to; then, the same bone strip was used for the filling of the gap that was formed on the opposite side. Conclusion: According to the experience gained from this study, the authors believe that computer-assisted horizontal translational osseous genioplasty is a simple and reliable technique for patients with facial asymmetry due to chin deviation.
This paper is an experimental and numerical work of Investigating the bearing capacity of shallow foundation of rubble mound under eccentric loads. Parametric centrifuge model tests at the 50g level environments with the model footings in the form of strip footing were performed by changing the loading location of model footing, relative density and materials for ground foundation. For the model ground, crushed rock sampled from a rocky mountain was prepared with a grain size distribution of having an identical coefficient of uniformity to the field condition. Model ground was also prepared with relative densities of 50 % and 80 %. For loading condition, model tests with and without eccentric load were carned out to investigate the effect of eccentric loads and a numerical analysis with the commertially available software of FLAC was performed. For numerical estimation with FLAC, the hyperbolic model of a nonlinear elastic constitutive relationship was used to simulate the stress-stram constitutive relationship of model ground and a series of triaxial compression test were carried out to find the parameters for this model Test results were analyzed and compared with Meyerhof method (1963), effective area method based on the limit equilibrium method, and a numerical analysis with FLAC.
Shell foundations have been employed as an alternative for the conventional flat shallow foundations and have proven to provide economical advantage. They have shown considerably improved performance in terms of ultimate capacity and settlement characteristics. However, despite conical shell foundations are frequently used in industry, the theoretical solutions for bearing capacity of these footings are available for only triangular shell strip foundations. The benefits in design aspects can be achieved through theoretical solutions considering shell geometry. The engineering behavior of a conical shell foundation on mixed soils was investigated experimentally and theoretically in this study. The failure mechanism was obtained by conducting laboratory model tests. Based on that, the theoretical solution of bearing capacity was developed and validated with experimental results, in terms of the internal angle of the cone. In comparison to the circular flat foundation, the results show 15% increase of ultimate load and 51% decrease of settlement at an angle of intersection of $120^{\circ}$. Based on the results, the design chart of modified bearing capacity coefficients for conical shell foundation is proposed.
Reutilization of solid waste such as Tire Derived Aggregate (TDA) and mixing it with soft soil for backfill material not only reduces the required volume of backfill soil (i.e., sand-mining procedures; reinforcement), but also preserves the environment from pollution by recycling. TDA is a widely-used material that has a good track record for improving sustainable construction. This paper attempted to investigate the performance of Kaolin-TDA mixtures as a backfill material underneath a strip footing and close to a retaining wall. For this purpose, different types of TDA i.e., powdery, shredded, small-size granular (1-4 mm) and large-size granular (5-8 mm), were mixed with Kaolin at 0, 20, 40, and 60% by weight. Static surcharge load with the rate of 10 kPa per min was applied on the strip footing until the failure of footing happened. The behaviour of samples K80-G (1-4 mm) 20 and K80-G (5-8 mm) 20 were identical to that of pure Kaolin, except that the maximum footing stress had grown by roughly three times (300-310 kPa). Therefore, it can be concluded that the total flexibility of the backfill and shear strength of the strip footing have been increased by adding the TDA. The results indicate that, a significant increase in the failure vertical stress of the footing is observed at the optimum mixture content. In addition, the TDA increases the elasticity behaviour of the backfill.

The current practice of estimating bearing capacity usually employs the conventional bearing capacity formula originally developed for strip footings under vertical central loading, In order account for the effect of footing shape and eccentricity and inclination of loads, correction factors are introduced in the formula, which are derived based on a number of small-scale model test observations. In this paper, comparison of several formulations of bearing capacity factors, as well as values of these factors, are presented. And the conventional bearing capacity equations are compared with some of other failure loci proposed for cohesive soil. Also, the bearing capacity of shallow foundation estimated by the conventional bearing capacity equations are compared with the experimental load test results.
In this paper the settlement characteristic of shallow foundation on sandy soil overlained by rigid ground was investigated by analyzing results of model tests. For model experiments, model tests were performed with sandy soils sampled from the field, changing the relative density of sandy soil and the ratio of thickness of sandy layer(H) to the width of model strip footing(B). As result of tests, settlement of sandy soils increases as the value of H/B increases, whereas it increases with relative density of soil. Bearing capacity decreases as the thickness of the sand layer relative to the footing width increases. In order to analyze the settlement characteristics of sandy ground, the results of model tests were compared with the predicted values using the empirical formulas proposed by Terzaghi, De Beer and Schmertmann. The method by De Beer was found to be in good agreements with test results.
