Porous SiC samples were prepared with three types of wood (poplar, pine, big cone pine) by simply embedding the wood charcoal in a powder mixture of Si and $SiO_2$ at 1600 and $1700^{\circ}C$. The basic engineering properties such as density, porosity, pore size and distribution, and strength were characterized. The samples showed full conversion to mostly $\beta$-SiC with good retention of the cellular structure of the original wood. More rigid SiC struts were developed for $1700^{\circ}C$. They showed similar bulk density ($0.5{\sim}0.6\;g/cm^3$) and porosity (81~84%) irrespective of the type of wood. The poplar sample showed three pore sizes (1, 8, $60\;{\mu}m$) with a main size of $60\;{\mu}m$. The pine sample showed a single pore size ($20\;{\mu}m$). The big cone pine sample showed two pore sizes (10, $80\;{\mu}m$) with a main size of $10\;{\mu}m$. The bend strength was 2.5 MPa for poplar, 5.7 MPa for pine, 2.8 MPa for big cone pine, indicating higher strength with pine.
PLA/LPCL/HPCL blend fibers composed of poly (lactic acid) (PLA), low molecular weight poly ($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) (LPCL), and high molecular weight poly ($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) (HPCL) were prepared by melt blending and spinning for bioabsorbable filament sutures. The effects of blending time and blend composition on the X-ray diffraction patterns and tensile properties of PLA/LPCL/HPCL blend fibers were characterized by WAXD and UTM. In addition, the effect of in vitro degradation on the weight loss and tensile properties of the blend fibers hydrolyzed during immersion in a phosphate buffer solution at pH 7.4 and 37$^{\circ}C$ for 1-8 weeks was investigated. The peak intensities of PLA/LPCL/HPCL blend fibers in X-ray diffraction patterns decreased with an increase of blending time and LPCL contents in the blend fibers. The weight loss of PLA/LPCL/HPCL blend fibers increased with an increase of blending time, LPCL contents, and hydrolysis time while the tensile strength and modulus of the blend fibers decreased. The tensile strength and modulus of the blend fibers were also found to be increased with an increase of HPCL contents in the blend fibers. The optimum conditions to prepare PLA/LPCL/HPCL blend fibers for bioabsorbable sutures are LPCL contents of $5 wt\%, HPCL contents of $35 wt\%, and blending time of 30 min. The strength retention of the PLA/LPCL/HPCL blend fiber prepared under optimum conditions was about $93.5\% even at hydrolysis time of 2 weeks.
This study analyzes and compares Hanji made with loess to Hanji made with kaolin, two yellow-based inorganic pigments, in terms of its physical properties, optical properties, and color fastness to light with the aim of using it as a fashion material. Hanji made by adding inorganic pigments showed an approximately 20% retention ratio on average. This figure was similar to those of loess and kaolin. Physical properties were analyzed, with the following results. A higher amount of additives lowered the apparent density and increased thickness and bulk. In general, inorganic pigment-added Hanji had lower tensile strength, bursting strength, and folding endurance compared to non-additive Hanji. The analysis of optical properties showed a lower brightness index for Hanji made with inorganic pigments compared to non-additive Hanji. When comparing the two inorganic pigments, the brightness of Hanji made with kaolin was higher. Regarding color fastness to light, loess showed level 4 and kaolin showed level 5 when 25% inorganic pigments on pulp were added to Hanji. Thus, Hanji made by adding inorganic pigments during the manufacturing process may perform well as materials for fashion because the additives enhanced both the color fastness to light and the bulk while maintaining the strength. In addition, Hanji dyed with inorganic pigments may have the potential to serve as materials for the fashion industry while still retaining the characteristics of Hanji.

Wet compaction test (WCT) is a fiber evaluation method where wet fibers are compressed at one side of a cylinder and water drains out from the other side. The consistency of the fiber furnishes and their pressures are recorded during the test. In the previous study we found that WCT results always gave better coefficients of determination in fiber furnish drainage, and paper properties (density, tensile, tear, and burst strength) than those of WRV (water retention value). Fiber freeness and fiber length correlated well with drainage and tear strength of the furnishes, respectively; however, their correlations were very much improved by combining the WCT results. In this study, we used the WCT test for fractionated fiber furnishes to see whether improvement of the WCT is possible. We found that strength properties such as breaking length and burst index were correlated better with the fractionated long fiber furnishes. Drainage was greatly affected by the presence of short fiber furnishes. We used bleached chemical pulps (SwBKP, HwBKP), recycled pulp (OCC), and mechanical pulp (BCTMP) as fiber furnishes in this study. Fiber fractionation can be performed on-line in these days by using multifractor and WCT can be used as an on-line test in papermachine in the future.
It is important to estimate the shear strength of shallow compacted soils as a construction material. A series of constant water content triaxial compression (CWCC) tests under low confining state in this study were performed on compacted geomaterials. For establishing a relationship of the shear strengths between saturated and unsaturated states on compacted geomaterials, the suction stresses were derived by two methods: the conventional suction-measured method and the Suction stress-SWRC Method (SSM). Considering the suction stress as an equivalent confining stress component in the (${\sigma}_{net}$, ${\tau}$) plane, it was found that the peak deviator stress states agree well with the failure line of the saturated state from the triaxial compression test when the SSM is applied to obtain the suction stress. On the other hand, the cavitation phenomenon on the measurement of suction affected the results of the conventional suction-measured method. These results mean that the SSM is distinctly favorable for obtaining the suction value in the CWCC test because the SSM is not restricted by the cavitation phenomenon. It is expected that the application of the SSM would reduce the time required, and the projected cost with the additional equipment such as a pore water measuring device in the CWCC test.

Cotton fabrics were finished with mixture of BTCA(1,2,3,4,-butanetetracarboxylic acid) and polyalkyleneoxide-modified amino-functional silicone by pad-dry-cure process to achieve better DP performance with a higher retention of physical properties as compared to those of finished with BTCA alone. The results indicated that BTCA improved the wrinkle recovery but reduced significantly the tensile and tear strength of the treated fabrics. Whereas silicone imparted a lower wrinkle recovery, a lower loss of tensile strength than BTCA, in addition improved considerably the tear strength owing to reduction in inter-fiber and/or inter-yarn frictional forces. The concentration and curing temperature needed to enhance physical properties were as follows; for BTCA treatments 6%, at 18$0^{\circ}C$, for silicone treatments 1% at 14$0^{\circ}C$. This optimum concentration of silicone was observed by using the mixture of BTCA and silicone. The wrinkle recovery and DP rating of cotton fabrics treated with mixture of 4% BTCA and 1% silicone at a curing temperature of 17$0^{\circ}C$ was similar to those of treated with 6% BTCA at a curing temperature of 18$0^{\circ}C$, and other performance properties observed were; an increase in tensile strength, extension, toughness, abrasion resistance and moisture regain due to the reduction of BTCA concentration and curing temperature, futhermore an improvement in bending and surface properties due to the lubricating effect of silicone. On the other hand 1% aqueous silicone solution showed the lowest surface tension. Such nonionic surface activity resulted in a more uniform and rapid deposition of BTCA on the fiber or fabric.
The purpose of this experiment was to determine the effects of various treatments on denture base resin to metal bond for cobalt-chromium alloy. The metal surface was treated as follows. Group 1 : Sandblasted with $50{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide. Group 2 : Sandblasted with $250{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide. Group 3 : Sandblasted with $250{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide and followed by silicoating. Group 4 : Electrochemically etched. Group 5 : treated with oxidizing solution. Group 6 : Beaded with $200{\mu}m$ retention structure and followed by silicoating. All specimens were applied with 4-META resin and were thermocycled 1000 times at temperature of $5^{\circ}C$ to $55^{\circ}C$. The effects of various surface treatments on the bond strength between 4-META resin and metal interface were measured by using the universal testing machine. All specimens were observed with SEM. The results were as follows 1. The bond strength of 4-META resin were significantly higher to Co-Cr alloy. 2. The bond strength decreased in the following orders : group 6, group 3, groups 1 and 2, group 4, group 5 and there was no statistically significant difference in bond strength among groups 1 and 2.(p>0.05) 3. The bond strength of cobalt-chromium alloy to 4-META resin were not significantly different.(p>0.05) 4. The treated surface of groups 1, 2 and 3 has more fine undercut than that of groups 4 and 5 with SEM. 5. Stable adhesion can be achieved when mechanically roughened metal surface by sandblasting than treating in an electrochemical etching and an oxidizing solution with potassium manganate.

Objective: Low back pain easily becomes chronic and has a high recurrence rate. Therefore, it is most important to prevent chronicity and reduce the risk of recurrence in the early stages of back pain or at the stage with mild pain. Therefore, this study was conducted to compare hip joint muscle strength, trunk muscle endurance, and pelvic alignment between subjects with mild low back pain and subjects without back pain. Design: Crossed-sectional study Methods: The study was conducted by recruiting 30 students in their twenties who are enrolled in K University in Gyeongsangnam-do, and classifying them into 15 patients with mild back pain and 15 patients with normal. The subjects who participated in the experiment were measured for hip flexor and extensor muscle strength, trunk flexion and extension muscle endurance, and pelvic alignment. To measure hip joint muscle strength, biodex was used, and muscle endurance of the trunk was recorded at the end range of the trunk flexion and extension. And pelvic alignment was measured using Formetric 4D. Results: There were no significant differences in hip joint muscle strength, pelvic alignment, and trunk extension muscle endurance. The retention time was found to be significantly shorter in the mild low back pain group than in the normal group for trunk flexion muscle endurance. Conclusions: In the early stages of back pain or in the mild pain stage, training to increase muscle endurance of the flexor muscles may be helpful.

This study investigated the open hole tensile (OHT) properties of carbon fiber/epoxy composites and compared them to bolt joint tensile (BJT) properties. The net nominal modulus and strength (1376 MPa) were found to be higher than the gross nominal strength (1041 MPa), likely due to increasing hole size. The OHT and BJT specimens exhibited similar stiffness, as expected without bolt rotation causing secondary bending. OHT specimens experienced a sharp drop in stress indicating unstable crack propagation, delamination, and catastrophic failure. BJT specimens failed through shear out on the bolt side and bearing failure on the nut side, involving fiber kinking, matrix splitting, and delamination, resulting in lower strength compared to OHT specimens. The strength retention of carbon fiber/epoxy composites with open holes was 66%. Delamination initiation at the hole's edge caused a reduction in the stress concentration factor. Filling the hole with a bolt suppressed this relieving mechanism, leading to lower strength in BJT specimens compared to OHT specimens. Bolt joint efficiency was calculated as 15%. The reduction in strength in bolted joints was attributed to fiber-matrix splitting and delamination, aligning with Hart Smith's bolted joint efficiency diagram. These findings contribute to materials selection and structural reliability estimation for carbon fiber/epoxy composites. They highlight the behavior of open hole and bolt joint configurations under tensile loading, providing valuable insights for engineering applications.
In this study, gelatin binding ability was increased by adding cross linking agent to improve adhesive characteristic of animal glue. Animal glue added genipin measured gel strength and viscosity, the structural analysis, the color retention degree, elution degree, and rupture strength. And the water resistance and ultraviolet light resistance with the addition of genipin were compared. As a result of the study, the gel strength and viscosity increased with the amount of genipin. As a result of the structural analysis, in gelatin, the absorption peak of the triple structure of collagen structurally stabilized was observed. As a result of the color retention degree, the film was observed because of the lowered brightness. The amount of elution glue was increased with addition of genipin at $50^{\circ}C$ distilled water condition and rupture strength has increased with the amount of genipin. In the water resistance and light fastness, there was no appearance before and after deterioration due to the addition of genipin. Based on the results of this study, it confirmed the adhesive characteristics of animal glue added genipin and examined the experimental method applicable for animal glue. After the addition of genipin, flexibility, re-solving, adhesive force, and curing speed, which are unique characteristics of glue, can be improved without disappearing, so it is expected that it will be applicable to production of animal glue and conservation of cultural heritage when homogeneous glue is secured.
