In this study, W/B that affect the strength and shrinkage were 4 level(14.5~11.5%), so that the and the physical and shrinkage properties were verified. And the shrinkage formula is suggested at the age of 91. The results showed that the strength of W/B 12.5% was the highest strength. And as W/B decreased, the shrinkage ratio increased. The autogenous shrinkage was rapidly decreased after 28 days.
Frequently spraying of natural starch slurry onto the formed wet web has been adopted to improve properties of paperboards. This conventional starch spraying technique, however, becomes less effective in strength improvement. In this study the effects of various factors including wet web dryness, quantity of starch slurry sprayed, and drying temperature on paperboard properties were investigated. Migration of starch granules into the webs appeared to cause a reduction in plybond strength when the web dryness was lower than this level. Wet webs should contain enough water to swell the starch granules, and at the same time they should be heated to a temperature high enough for complete cooking of the sprayed starches to occur. This suggested that preheating of the wet web can be employed to improve the plybond strength.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the AE characteristics for the basemetal, PWHT (post-weld heat treatment) and weldment specimens of SA-516 steel during fracture testing. Four-point bending and AE tests were conducted simultaneously. AE signals were emitted in the process of plastic deformation. AE signal strength and amplitude of the weldment was the strongest, followed by PWHT specimen and basemetal. More AE signals were emitted from the weldment samples because of the oxides, and discontinuous mechanical properties. AE signal strength and amplitude for the basemetal or PWHT specimen decreased remarkably compared to the weldment because of lower strength. Pre-cracked specimens emitted even lower event counts than the corresponding blunt notched specimens. Dimple fracture from void coalescence mechanism is associated with low-level AE signal strength for the basemetal or PWHT. Tearing mode and dimple formation were shown on the fracture surfaces of the weldment, but only a small fraction produced detectable AE.
The influence of carrier solutions on particle retention was studied by varying surfactants and ionic strength in flow field-flow fractionation. Experiments were made with five different submicron polystyrene latex standards at three different types of surfactants and seven different ionic strengths. Departures in particle retention from the general theory were observed. At low ionic strength, it is shown that migrating sample zone is clearly lifted away from the ideal equilibrium height and that the repulsive interaction dominates between the particle and the channel wall. As ionic strength increases up to a certain level, particle retention becomes closer to the general theory. Further increase in ionic strength is shown to prolong the retention. An optimum regime of ionic strength is also suggested with the proper choice of surfactants.

The purpose of this paper was to investigate the comparison of balance and muscle strength between dominant and non-dominant legs in adults. Thirty adults in their 20s participated in this study. The dominant and non-dominant legs were selected based on the dominant hands of the target. The subject's muscle strength of legs was measured with Nicholas MMT, and the balance was measured with BIO-Rescue. We compared the dominant and non-dominant legs based on the results. The result, indicated no statistical difference on balance and muscle strength between dominant and non-dominant legs(p>.05). The results of this study will be helpful in setting the effective treatment direction and treatment level, and in controlling posture, balance and motor function.
This study aims at developing a torsional strength model based on a nonlinear analysis method presented in the previous studies. To this end, flexural neutral axis depth of a reinforced concrete section and effective thickness of an idealized thin-walled tube were formulated based on reasonable approximations. In addition, various sectional force components, such as shear, flexure, axial compression, and torsional moment, were considered in estimating torsional strength by addressing a simple and linear strain profile. Existing test results were collected from literature for verifications by comparing with those estimated from the proposed model. On this basis, it can be confirmed that the proposed model can evaluate the torsional strength of RC members subjected to combined loads with a good level of accuracy, and it also well captured inter-related mechanisms between shear, bending moment, axial compression, and torsion.

In this study, the possibility of using pyrolysis oil as wood adhesives was explored. Especially, adhesives were formulated by reacting pyrolysis oil and formaldehyde and also partially replacing phenol with pyrolysis oil in phenol-formaldehyde (PF) adhesive and soy hydrolizate/PF adhesive formulation. The pine wood was fast pyrolyized and the oils were obtained from a series of condensers in the pyrolysis system. The oils from each condenser were first reacted with formaldehyde to explore potential use of the oil itself as adhesive. The lap-shear bond strength test results indicated that the oil itself could be polymerized and form bonds between wood adherends. The oils from each condenser were then mixed together and used as partial replacement of phenol (25, 33, and 50% by weight) in phenol-formaldehyde adhesive. The bond strength of the oil containing PF adhesives was decreased as percent phenol replacement level increased. However, no significant difference was found between 25 and 33% of phenol replacement level. The oil-contained PF resins at 25, 33, and 50% phenol replacement level with different NaOH/Phenol (Pyrolysis oil) molar ratio were further formulated with soy hydrolizate to make soy hydrolizate/pyrolysis oil-phenol formaldehyde adhesive at 6:4 weight (wt) ratio and used for fiberboard manufacturing. Surface internal bond strength (IB) of the boards bonded with 33% replacement at 0.3 NaOH/Phenol (Pyrolysis oil) molar ratio performed better than other replacement levels and molar ratios. Thickness swelling after 24 hr cold water soaking and after 2 hr in boiling water was increased as % replacement of pyrolysis oil increased.

Steel fiber-reinforced prestressed concrete (SFRPSC) members typically have high shear strength and deformation capability, compared to conventional prestressed concrete (PSC) members, due to the resistance provided by steel fibers at the crack surface after the onset of diagonal cracking. In this study, shear tests were conducted on the SFRPSC members with the test variables of concrete compressive strength, fiber volume fraction, and prestressing force level. Their localized behavior around the critical shear cracks was measured by a non-contact image-based displacement measurement system, and thus their shear deformation was thoroughly investigated. The tested SFRPSC members showed higher shear strengths as the concrete compressive strength or the level of prestress increased, and their stiffnesses did not change significantly, even after diagonal cracking due to the resistance of steel fibers. As the level of prestress increased, the shear deformation was contributed by the crack opening displacement more than the slip displacement. In addition, the local displacements around the shear crack progressed toward directions that differ from those expected by the principal strain angles that can be typically obtained from the average strains of the concrete element. Thus, this localized deformation characteristics around the shear cracks should be considered when measuring the local deformation of concrete elements near discrete cracks or when calculating the local stresses.
A series of experiments has been carried out to investigate the effect of titanium, boron and nitrogen on the microstructure and toughness of simulated heat affected zone (HAZ) in quenched and tempered (QT) type 490MPa yield strength steels. For acquiring the same strength level, the carbon content and carbon equivalent could be lowered remarkably with a small titanium and boron addition due to the hardenability effect of boron during quenching process. Following the thermal cycle of large heat input, the coarsened grain HAZ (CGHAZ) of conventional quenched and tempered (QT) type 490MPa yield strength steels exhibited a coarse bainitic or ferrite side plate structure with large prior austenite grains. While, titanium and boron bearing QT type 490MPa yield strength steels were characterized by the microstructure in the CGHAZ, consisting mainly of the fine intragranular ferrite microstructure. Toughness of the simulated HAZ was mainly controlled by the proper Ceq level, and the ratio of Ti/N rather than titanium and nitrogen contents themselves. In the titaniumboron added QT steels, the optimum Ti/N ratio for excellent HAZ toughness was around 2.0, which was much lower than the known Ti/N stoichiometric ratio, 3.4. With reducing Ti/N ratio from the stoichiometric ratio, austenite grain size in the coarse grained HAZ became finer, indicating that the effective fine precipitates could be sufficiently obtained even with lower Ti/N level by adding boron simultaneously. Along with typical titanium carbonitrides, various forms of complex titanium and boronbased precipitates, like TiNMnSBN, were often observed in the simulated CGHAZ, which may act as stable nuclei for ferrite during cooling of weld thermal cycles
