Advantages of adhesively bonded joints and techniques of weight reduction have led to increasing use of structural adhesives such as LSI(large scale integration) package, automobile, aircraft in the various industries. In spite of such wide applications of adhesively bonded joints, the evaluation method of bonding strength has not been established. Stress singularity occurs at the interface edges of adhesively bonded joints and it is required to analyze it. In this paper, the stress singularity using 2-dimensional elastic boundary element method (BEM) with the changes of the lap length and adhesive for single lap joint was analyzed, and experiments of strength evaluation were carried out. As the results, the evaluating method of bonding strength considering stress singularity at interface edges of adhesively bonded joints and stress intensity factor of interface crack have been proposed in static and fatigue test.
This study was to secure the safety of poor appearance distribution concrete poles effectively and to reduce the replacement costs of them by developing a soundness evaluation index. The researcher of this study investigated poor appearance types of concrete pole, collected 53 of test samples, and tested pole strength. As a result of strength test, only 17 percent of poor appearance concrete poles were below 2.0 of safety factor spec. As results of multiple regression analysis, it is verified that surface air void, horizontal crack, net-shaped crack, elapsed year, vertical crack, and deterioration in concrete compressive strength have statistically negative effects on safety factor of concrete poles in a significant level. The researcher set up a soundness evaluation index by using multiple regression equation, and suggested that poor appearance concrete poles should be replaced or reinforced only in case of soundness evaluation score of 150 or above.
The precise prediction of reserved carrying capacity of bridge as a system is extremely difficult especially when the bridges are highly redundant and significantly deteriorated or damaged. This paper is intended to propose a new approach for the evaluation of reserved system carrying capacity of bridges in terms of equivalent system-strength, which may be defined as a bridge system-strength corresponding to the system reliability of the bridge. This can be derived from an inverse process based on the concept of FOSM form of system reliability index. It may be emphasized that this approach is very useful for the evaluation of the deterministic system redundancy and reserve strength which are measured in terms of either probabilistic system redundancy factor and reserve factor or deterministic system redundancy factor and reserve factor. The system reliability of bridges is formulated as a parallel-series model obtained from the FAM(Failure Mode Approach) based on the major failure mechanisms. AFOSM and IST methods are used for the reliability analysis of the proposed models. The proposed approach and method for the system redundancy and reserve safety/strength are applied to the safety assessment of actual RC and steel box-girder bridges. The results of the evaluation of reserved system safety or bridge system-strength in terms of the system redundancy and the system safety/strength are significantly different from those of element reliability-based or conventional methods.
This paper has established the strength evaluation procedure of the bogie frame for the Korean tilting train that is being developed in KRRI, In order to establish the strength evaluation procedure, firstly, the loading conditions imposed on the tilting train were investigated. In addition, the static and fatigue strength of the bogie frame has been evaluated. In order to derive the dynamic loads according to the carbody tilting, the load redistribution effect by carbody tilting, the unbalanced lateral acceleration effect by high-speed curving and the tilting actuator force effect have been considered. Multi-body dynamic analyses have been carried out to evaluate the tilting load cases and the strength analysis has been performed by finite element analyses. From this study, the structural safety of the bogie frame could be ensured.

This study deals with the evaluation of bending fatigue strength in shaving gears, We manufactured gears using manufacture processes that are currently used in most gears manufacturing companies. The test gears are hobbed then the tooth surface are treated by a combination of shaving carbonizing and shot peening. The constant stress amplitude fatigue test is performed by using an electrohydraulic servo-controlled pulsating tester. The S-N curves are obtained and illustrated. In this study we investigated the effect of shaving process and shot peening on fatigue strength, The effect of shaving process ad shot peening on the fatigue strength is evaluated quantitatively,. The enhancement of fatigue strength due to shaving process and shot peening is clarified
Among several non-destructive testing methods, ultrasonic pulse velocity method has been widely used for the evaluation of concrete strength. However, this method might not provide accurate estimated results since factors influencing the relationship between strength and wave velocity is not considered. In this study, the evaluation methods of concrete strength using compression wave velocities measured by either ultrasonic pulse velocity method or impact-resonance method are proposed. A basic equation is obtained by the linear regression with velocity vs. strength data at a specific age and then, ageing factor is employed in the equation to consider the difference of the increasing rate between wave velocity and strength. Strengths predicted by the proposed equation agree well with test results.
Among several non-destructive testing methods, ultrasonic pulse velocity method and rebound index method have been widely used for the evaluation of concrete strength. However, such methods might not provide accurate estimated results since factors influencing the relationship between strength and either ultrasonic pulse velocity or rebound index are not considered. In this paper, the evaluation method of concrete strength using rod-wave velocity measured by impact-resonance method is proposed. A basic equation is obtained by the linear regression of velocity vs, strength data at specific age and then, aging factor is employed in the equation to consider the difference of the increasing rate between wave velocity and strength. Strengths predicted by the proposed equation agree well with test results. Furthermore, the combined method of rod-wave velocity and rebound index is proposed.
A study for the structural strength analysis on the doubler plate subjected biaxial in-plane compression and shear load has been performed through the systematic evaluation process. In order to estimate the proper static strength of the doubler plate, non-linear elasto-plastic analysis is introduced. Gap element modeling for contact effect between the main plate and the doubler is prepared and nonlinear analysis procedures are illustrated based on MSC/N4W. In addition, some design guides are suggested through the consideration of several important effects such as corrosion of main plate, doubler width, doubler length and doubler thickness. Finally, theses result are compared with a developed design formula based on the buckling strength and general trends. The design guides, according to the variation of design parameters are discussed.
Evaluation of bond strength of a fire-damaged reinforced concrete structure for determining whether to reuse, reinforced, or abandon the structure is very important. Recently, calculating method for changes in bond strength of rebars is proposed by C. Chiang. The equation is relating the ratio of residual bond strength, R, to temperature, T, and exposure time, t. This study presented and verified a general process for evaluating damage to bond strength of RC structure arising from high temperature.
