Member force, strain and stress distribution of a section are obtained for optimized standard 25m~45m PSSC composite bridge subjected to dead and live load in order to interpret the effect of prestressing and deformation of tendon. The stress and strain distribution and moment capacity are obtained for both noncomposite and composite section and for allowable stress limit state, yield limit state and strength limit state. Reliability analysis is conducted after assuming limit states for stress and flexural strength. The reliability index for standard PSSC composite bridge which is designed to satisfy the allowable stress for flexural strength are higher than 3.5 which is required reliability indexes on American code for LRFD. Reliability of PSSC girder which is designed based on allowable stress of bridge design code is high for flexural strength.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of light cured glass ionomer cement to enamel surface which treated with $37\%$ phosphoric acid, $10\%$ polyacrylic acid, $1.23\%$ acidulated phosphate fluoride gel and no etching agent. To compare the shear bond strength of glass ionomer cement, light-cured composite resin and chemically-cured composite resin were empoloyed as controls. Eight experiments groups were composed. 10 specimens of each group were bonded by metal bracket by tested in universal testing machine for shear bond strength, in stereoscope for adhesive remnants index. The data were evaluated statistically by SPSS/PC+. The results were as follows. 1. Among the groups of $37\%$ phosphoric acid treated and dry and bonded with light cured glass ionomer, light cured composite resin, and chemically cured composite resin, the shear bond strength of glass ionomer group showed no significant difference to the others, but the shear bond strength of chemically cured resin showed statistically lower than that of light cured resin (p<0.05). 2. The shear bond strengths of glass ionomer cement to enamel treated group with $1.23\%$ acidulated phosphate fluoride gel and $10\%$ polyacrylic acid and $37\%$ phosphoric acid showed statistically higher than that of no etched enamel group(p<0.U). 3. In the groups of glass ionomer cement, the presence of moisture was not significantly effect to the shear bond strength (p<0.05). 4. After debonding, no etched enamel group showed less residual materials on the enamel surface than the group of enamel etched with $37\%$ Phosphoric acid.
The purpose of this study was to obtain the normative data of finger strength using the keyboard and the MIDI(Musical Instrument Digital Interface) software. A total of 92 college students (46 male and 46 female) were recruited from universities located in Seoul and Chungcheong province and an average age was 21.7(SD = 1.8). After the completion of demographic information, each participant asked to press the five keys both in ascending and descending manners with the maximum strength of individual finger. The velocity was obtained as an indicator for finger pressing force by using the MIDI software. Results showed that the individual finger velocity ranged between 77 to 97 (Maximum possible velocity = 127). Regarding male's velocity data, the maximum velocity was found in index finger of dominant hand(96.9), while the minimum strength was found in ring finger of nondominant hand(78.5). Female data appeared to be similar to male's one in terms of maximum strength in dominant index finger(92) and minimum strength in nondominant ring finger(77.5). It also found that the statistically significant differences(p < .05) on finger strength of all fingers between dominant and non-dominant hands except the thumbs(p < .05). The current findings serves as a "normative standard" that proves the validity and effectiveness of hand rehabilitation training program using the electronic keyboard connected with the MIDI software to enhance functional changes in hands.
Due to earthquakes, many structures suffered extensive damages that were attributed to the torsional effect caused by mass, stiffness or strength eccentricity. Due to this type of asymmetry torsional moments are generated that are imposed by means of additional shear forces developed at the vertical resisting structural elements of the buildings. Although the torsional effect on the response of reinforced concrete buildings was the subject of extensive research over the last decades, a quantitative index measuring the amplification of the shear forces developed at the vertical resisting elements due to lateral-torsional coupling valid for both elastic and elastoplastic response states is still missing. In this study a reliable index capable of assessing the torsional effect is proposed. The performance of the proposed index is evaluated and its correlation with structural response quantities like displacements, interstorey drift, base torque, shear forces and upper diaphragm's rotation is presented. Torsionally stiff, mass eccentric single-story and multistory structures, subjected to bidirectional excitation, are considered and nonlinear dynamic analyses are performed using natural records selected for three hazard levels. It was found that the proposed index provides reliable prediction of the magnitude of torsional effect for all test examples considered.
Nowadays, many engineers believe that hybrid structures with reinforced concrete central core walls and perimeter steel frames offer an economical method to develop the strength and stiffness required for seismic design. As a result, a variety of such structures have recently been applied in actual construction. However, the performance-based seismic design of such structures has not been investigated systematically. In the performance-based seismic design, quantifying the seismic damage of complete structures by damage indices is one of the fundamental issues. Four damage states and the final softening index at each state for high-rise hybrid structures are suggested firstly in this paper. Based on nonlinear dynamic analysis, the relation of the maximum inter-story drift, the main structural characteristics, and the final softening index is obtained. At the same time, the relation between the maximum inter-story drift and the maximum roof displacement over the height is also acquired. A double-variable index accounting for maximum deformation and cumulative energy is put forward based on the pushover analysis. Finally, a case study is conducted on a high-rise hybrid structure model tested on shaking table before to verify the suggested quantities of damage indices.
The drought index has been developed, based on a $8.6{\mu}m$ surface emissivity in the $8-12{\mu}m$ MODIS channels over the African Sahel region (10-20 N, 13 W-35 W) and the Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA: 37.2-37.7 N, 126.6-127.2 E). The emissivity indicates the $SiO_2$ strength and can vary interannually by vegetation, water vapor, and soil moisture, as a potential indicator of drought conditions. In a well-vegetated region close to 10 N of the Sahel, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) showed high sensitivity, while the emissivity did not. On the other hand, the NDVI experienced negligible variability in a poorly vegetated region near 20 N, while the emissivity reflected sensitively the effects of atmospheric water vapor and soil moisture conditions. Seasonal variations of the emissivity (0.94-0.97) have been examined over the SMA during the 2003-2004 period compared to NDVI (or Enhanced Vegetation Index; EVI). Here, the dryness was more severe in urban area with less vegetation than in suburban area; the two areas corresponded to the north and south of the Han river, respectively. The emissivity exhibiting a significant spatial correlation of ${\sim}0.8$ with the two indices can supplement their information.
This study analyzed the effect of regular Taekwondo training for 16 weeks on physical fitness and growth index depending on different IGF-1 gene polymorphisms. The subjects of the study were 44 male students who were 8 year years old. The IGF-1 gene showed the highest frequency of 18 CA repeat (190 bp) in 50% of subjects, and was found in the homozygote (n=11), heterozygote (n=22) and non-carriers (n=11). The results of the physical fitness and growth index among the gene polymorphism groups indicated no significant differences but the expected height of the non-carrier group was significantly high (p<0.05). After Taekwondo training, the homozygote group and the non-carrier groups demonstrated significant (p<0.05) increase in grip strength and in time in the standing with one leg while closing eyes test, respectively. Only the homozygote group had a significant (p<0.05) increase in thigh circumference. IGF-1 concentration significantly (p<0.05) increased in the heterozygote group, while HOMA-IR significantly (p<0.05) decreased in the homozygote group. Furthermore, there was a significant (p<0.05) decrease in glucose in both the homozygote and the non-carriers groups. The difference between physical fitness and growth index depending on the IGF-1 gene polymorphism after Taekwondo training did not show consistent impact.
Accurate estimation of the uniaxial compressive strength of rock is very crucial for the safety of construction activities occurring in the rock mass. However, the uniaxial compressive strength test is expensive and time consuming. Moreover, the uniaxial compressive strength test cannot be performed in the field. In order to solve this kind of problem, many foreign researchers investigated the use of the point load strength test for the estimation of uniaxial compressive strength of rock. However, the result of research obtained for rocks from other countries may not be directly applicable for rocks in Korea. The correlation between the point load strength index and the uniaxial compressive strength for rocks in Korea is suggested in the form of table by using the results of the extensive literature reviews and laboratory tests. The suggested result is expected to be used for the simple and quick estimation of uniaxial compressive strength of rocks in Korea.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanical properties of high strength concretes reinforced with hooked steel fiber. For this purpose, total 36 specimens whose variables are concrete compressive strength, steel fiber aspect ratio, and steel fiber volume contents, are made and tested. From the test results including previous research work, flexural performance of steel fiber reinforced high strength concrete is evaluated in terms of flexural strength and toughness index. Flexural behavior of steel fiber reinforced high strength concrete is enhanced with respect to the fiber volume content, the aspect ratio, and concrete compressive strength. More efforts are devoted to evaluate quantitatively between the flexural strength and the structural parameters such as the fiber volume content, the aspect ratio, and concrete compressive strength.
According to the result of the experiment, except that Oebal Hanji making, which does not consider the fiber orientation, has a smaller difference between its strength of width and length direction than of Ssangbal Hanii making, there is not a significant difference between Oebal Hanji making and Ssangbal Hanji making. In addition, even though Oebal Hanji making produced indigenous technique is generally felt sturdy because its absolute strength is enhanced by applying fine materials and overlaying several sheets of paper, its relative strength, which is expressed in an index, is not far beyond that of Ssangbal Hanji making Study on the effect of Dochim revealed that Dochim improves remarkably folding endurance and enhances breaking length and the burst strength. Especially, Dochim increase tensile strength. It was also revealed that, indigenous Oebal Hanji making, the higher the number of sheets of paper overlaid is, the higher the tear strength is the increase relatively higher than those of other types of strength. Consequently, Dochim treatment greatly reinforces the imperfect strength of indigenous Hanji. We consider that if we apply Dochim treatment to Ssangbal Hanji making it may bring about abnormal imbalance of strength. We can benefit from the characteristic strength of Oebal Hanji making only when performing paper making and Dochim considering fiber orientation.
