  • In regard to modular systems, new methods, as well as middle and high-story unit design ideas, are currently being studied. These studies need to focus on the enhanced stiffness and seismic performance of these connections, and see that the development of fully restrained moment connections can improve the seismic performance. For this reason, this study evaluates the performance of the connections of the ceiling bracket-typed modular system through repeated loading tests and analyses. In order to compare them with these modular units, new unit specimens with the bracket connection being different from that of the traditional modular unit specimens were designed, and the results of repeated loading tests were analyzed. In the traditional units, the structural performances of both welding connection and bolt connection were evaluated. In regard to the testing results, the initial stiffness of the hysteresis curve was compared with the theoretical initial stiffness, and the features of all specimens were also analyzed with regard to the maximum moment. In addition, the test results were examined with regard to the connection flexural strength of the steel special moment frame specified under the construction criteria KBC2016. The connections, which were proposed in the test results, were found to be fully restrained moment connections for designing strong column-weak beams and meeting the requirements of seismic performance of special moment frames.

  • The magnetic valve of the breast tissue expander generates imaging artifacts during MRI examination, so MRI examination is limited. To evaluate the effect of imaging artifacts on the diagnosis area for patients with breast tissue expander who need MRI examination. Imaging artifacts were measured using self-made phantoms and actual clinical conditions. Imaging artifacts were measured differently depending on the environment of 1.5 Tesla and 3.0 Tesla, and the effects of imaging artifacts were less in the C-spine and L-spine tests. If MRI due to breast cancer metastasis is absolutely necessary, head & neck examination and L-spine can be examined mainly at 1.5 Tesla, but some sequences may cause distortion due to image artifacts. In terms of safety, MRI scans of patients with breast tissue expanders can be performed conditionally at 1.5T, avoiding 3.0T.

  • Studies on very large offshore structures are increasing owing to the development of deep sea, large-scale energy generation using ocean resources, and so on. The enlargement of offshore structures makes the hydroelastic effect and low natural frequency related responses important. Numerical analyses and model tests for hydroelastic and higher-order springing responses of fixed cylindrical structures are conducted in this study. The panel methods with and without the hydroelastic effect with shell elements, and the Morison analysis method with beam elements are applied. To observe the hydroelastic effect for structural strength, two structures are considered: bottom-fixed cylindrical structures with high and low bending stiffnesses, respectively. The surge motions at the top of the structure and bending stresses on the structure are observed under regular and irregular wave conditions. The regular wave conditions are generated considering the ratios of the cylindrical outer diameter to the wave lengths, and keeping the wave steepness constant. The model tests are performed in the three-dimensional ocean engineering basin in the KRISO (Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering). From the numerical and experimental results, in which the hydroelastic responses are only observed in the case of the structure with a low bending stiffness, it is confirmed that the hydroelastic responses are highly dependent on the structural stiffness. Additionally, the higher-order phenomenon on the specified wave condition is analyzed by observing the higher-order springing responses when the incident wave frequency or its multiples with the high wave height coincides with the natural frequency of the structure.

  • The heat-affected zone (HAZ) of SA508 Gr.4N Ni-Mo-Cr low alloy steel, which has higher Ni and Cr contents than SA508 Gr.3 Mn-Mo-Ni low alloy steel, was investigated on the microstructure and mechanical properties. The HAZ was categorized into seven characteristic zones (CGCG, FGCG, ICCG, SCCG, FGFG, ICIC and SCSC-HAZ) according to the peak temperature from the thermal cycle experienced during multi-pass welding. Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) was conducted in the temperature range of $550{\sim}610^{\circ}C$ for 30 hours to evaluate the effect of PWHT conditions on the microstructure and mechanical properties. Before PWHT, CGHAZ and FGFGHAZ showed high yield strength (YS) ranging from 1000 to 1250 MPa, while YS of SCSCHAZ decreased from 607 MPa (observed for base metal) to 501 MPa. The Charpy impact energies of sub-HAZs fell below 100J at $-29^{\circ}C$, except in the SCSCHAZ. By applying PWHT to sub-HAZ specimens, YS decreased as the PWHT temperature increased. In the case of CGHAZs and FGFGHAZ heat-treated at $610^{\circ}C$, YS dropped drastically to the range of 654~686 MPa. From the Charpy impact test, the upper-shelf energy (USE) increased to approximately 250J and Index temperature ($T_{68J}$) decreased below $-50^{\circ}C$. Specifically, in FGFG, ICIC and SCSC-HAZ, $T_{68J}$ was below -110, which was lower than the case of base metal.

  • The resistance spot welding of TRIP590 steels was investigated to enhance understanding of weld fracture during tensile-shear strength (TSS) test. The main failure modes for spot welds of TRIP590 steels were nugget pullout and interfacial fracture. The peak load to cause a weld interfacial failure was found to be related to fracture toughness of the weld and the weld diameter. Although interfacial fracture occurred in the samples, the load carrying capacity of the weld was high and not significantly affected by the fracture mode. Substantial part of the weld exhibits the characteristic dimple (or elongated dimple) fractures on interfacial fractured surface, in spite of the high hardness values associated with the martensite microstructures. The high load-bearing ability of the weld is directly associated with the area of ductile fracture occurred in weld. Therefore, the judgment of the quality of resistance spot welds in TRIP590 steels, the load carrying capacity of the weld should be considered as an important factor than fracture mode.

  • Grouting, which is applied for the increase of ground strength and the decrease of permeability, is complex process because of several reasons, so the process needs to be elaborated. Injection process in consideration of ground condition and optimization of grouting sequence is essential. In this study, GIN (Grouting Intensity Number), multiple of injected grout volume and pressure, is revised to consider injection pressure reduction and joint opening during grouting process. A revised GIN process is evaluated through a field test. A revised GIN, considering ground condition, injection pressure, follows GIN envelope and produces rational grouting process. The result of a revised GIN reduces permeability of the ground in the order of 10-1~10-2 cm/sec.

  • This study investigated the effects of different amounts of aronia juice (0, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20%) on astringency perception and quality characteristics of cup jelly. With increasing aronia juice content, soluble solid content, redness, yellowness, total acidity, antioxidant components, and antioxidant activities increased, whereas lightness, pH, and gel strength decreased. Regarding sensory evaluation, with 12% or more added aronia juice, purpleness and sourness increased, whereas hardness and cohesiveness decreased in the jelly samples. Cup jelly with 16% aronia juice content had the highest overall acceptability score. These results indicate that aronia can be used as a good source of anthocyanins when developing functional jelly products.
