Investigations on the behavior of steel fiber reinforced high strength concrete beams subjected to predominant shear are accomplished to determine their diagonal shear strength including ultimate shear strength. The parameters varied were the volume fraction(Vf) of the fibers, shear span depth ratio(a/d). The test result show that diagonal shear strength and ultimate shear strength are increased siginificantly due to crack arrest mechanism. Predictive equations are suggested for evaluating the diagonal cracking strength and ultimate shear strength of the fiber reinforced high strength concrete beams.

It is difficult to prepare a specimen for directly testing a tensile strength of soils. Therefore, a tensile strength of soils has been measured indirectly. In this study, a mold and sample preparation tool for directly testing a tensile strength of soils has been developed and a tensile strength of weakly cemented sand was measured by using such device. A compressive strength of the cemented sand was also measured and its value was 30 times greater than its tensile strength.
In this paper, we make a study on comparison and evaluation of the seoul granite properties, which are unit weight, uniaxial compressive strength, Brazilian tensile strength and, point load strength. The typical result are as follow- 1. From the measured value of point load strength anisotropy index, the seoul granite is considered to be homogeneous. 2. There is a linear relationship between uniaxial compressive strength and size corrected point load strength index. 3. Brazilian tensile strength and size corrected point load strength index are closely tied together.

The effect of concrete strength on shear cracking strength in reinforced concrete beams is investigated analytically. The quantitative response of reinforced concrete beam-end-part with varing concrete stiffness, which is a function of concrete compressive strength, is examined utilizing a finite element mothod. The result indicates that the severer shear stress localization/concentration takes place in the beam having higher concrete strength. Thus the increase ratio of shear cracking strength with respect to concrete compressive strength decreases as the concrete strength becoms higher.
The strength theory of concrete is significant to structure design and nonlinear finite element analysis of concrete structures because concrete utilized in engineering is usually subject to the action of multi-axial stress. Experimental results have revealed that lightweight aggregate (LWA) concrete exhibits plastic flow plateau under high compressive stress and most of the lightweight aggregates are crushed at this stage. For the purpose of safety, therefore, in the practical application the strength of LWA concrete at the plastic flow plateau stage should be regarded as the ultimate strength under multi-axial compressive stress state. With consideration of the strength criterion, the ultimate strength surface of LWA concrete under multi-axial stress intersects with the hydrostatic stress axis at two different points, which is completely different from that of the normal weight concrete as that the ultimate strength surface is open-ended. As a result, the strength criteria aimed at normal weight concrete do not fit LWA concrete. In the present paper, a multi-axial strength criterion for LWA concrete is proposed based on the Unified Twin-Shear Strength (UTSS) theory developed by Prof Yu (Yu et al. 1992), which takes into account the above strength characteristics of LWA under high compressive stress level. In this strength criterion model, the tensile and compressive meridians as well as the ultimate strength envelopes in deviatoric plane under different hydrostatic stress are established just in terms of a few characteristic stress states, i.e., the uniaxial tensile strength $f_t$, the uniaxial compressive strength $f_c$, and the equibiaxial compressive $f_{bc}$. The developed model was confirmed to agree well with experimental data under different stress ratios of LWA concrete.

In this study, ultimate strength of concrete deep beams with an opening is predicted by using Strut-and-Tie Model with a new effective compressive strength. First crack occurs around an opening by stress concentration due to geometric discontinuity. This results in decreasing ultimate strength of deep beams with an opening compared with general deep beams. With fundamental notion that ultimate strength of deep beam with an opening decreases as a result of reduction in effective compressive strength of a concrete strut, an equivalent effective compressive strength formula is proposed in order to reflect ultimate strength reduction due to an opening located in a concrete strut. An equivalent effective compressive strength formula which can reflect opening size and position is added to a testified algorithm of predicting ultimate strength of concrete deep beams. Therefore, ultimate strength of concrete deep beam with an opening is predicted by using a simple and rational STM algorithm including an equivalent effective compressive strength formula, not by finite element analysis or a former complex Strut-and-Tie Model

Recently, structure performance is maximized by using high strength concrete. In design of structure, concrete need combination with reinforcement, but use of common strength reinforcement make member complex bar placement, so high strength concrete members require increased strength reinforcement. If common strength reinforcement replaced by equal tension area of high strength reinforcement, reinforcement ratio increase and brittle failure of member may occur by material change. So, adequate upper limit of strength ratio is required to affirm ductile behavior in application of high strength reinforcement. In this study, ductility behavior was analysed by factor of reinforcement ratio, strength of concrete and reinforcement. The result indicate that ductile failure is shown under 0.35 $\rho_{b}$ in any reinforcement strength of same section and high strength concrete of 800kg/$cm^{2}$ used commonly is compatible with reinforcement of 5500kg/$cm^{2}$.
In the Ultimate Strength Design, the design strength of a member is determined by multiplying the strength reduction factor to the nominal strength. This concept may be a reasonable approach, however it can not consider failure modes appropriately. Moreover, column design strength diagram show an abrupt change at a low level of axial load, which does not seem to be reasonable. This research compares the design strength determined by the strength resistance factors. As the material resistance factors for flexure and compression, 0.65 and 0.90 are proposed for concrete and steel, respectively. The design strength calculation process by applying material resistance factors addresses failure modes more effectively than by applying member strength reduction factor, and provides more resnable design strength for reinforced concrete flexural and compression members.

This study was performed to evaluate the strength properties of polymer concrete using recycled aggre-gate. The compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength and pulse velocity of polymer concrete were decreased with increasing the content of recycled aggregate. At the curing age of 7days, the compressive strength was $80.5\~88.3$ MPa, the splitting tensile strength was $9.1\~10.6$ MPa, the flexural strength was $19.2\~21.5$ MPa and the pulse velocity was $3,931\~4,041$ m/s, respectively. Also, the compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength and pulse velocity of concrete using recycled fine aggregate were higher than that of the silica sand. Therefore, these recycled aggregate polymer concretes were estimated for high strength concrete without major problem.

Nominal shear strength of concrete beam is the combined strength of concrete shear strength and steel shear strength in current design code. But Torsional moment strength of concrete is neglected in calculation of the nominal torsional moment strength of reinforced concrete beam in current revised code. Tensile stress of concrete strut between cracks is still in effect due to tension stiffening effect. But the tensile stresses of concrete after cracking are neglected in bending and torsion in design. The torsional behavior is similar to the shear behavior in mechanics. Therefore the torsional moment strength of concrete should be concluded to the nominal torsional moment strength of reinforced concrete beam. To verify the validity of the proposed model, the nominal torsional moment strengths according to CEB, two ACI codes(89, 99) and proposed model are compared to experimental torsional strengths of 55 test specimens found in literature. The nominal torsional moment strengths by the proposed model show the best results.
