  • Seoul, the capital of Korea, is worldwide city; Seoul is 600 year-old city as a capital and more than 10 millions of population live in Seoul, Image of Seoul has began to be known to the peoples in the world through 1988 Seoul Olympic Games and 2002 World Cup. However, in the public design and trees lining street system, Seoul hasn't been escaped from the image of a city which lacks of the characterization in the culture and identity aspects. This paper applied a protective fence designing simulation for Cultural Street in Seoul to develop much more the identity of Seoul and characterization of local culture. Also, It's examined and analyzed R&D data, and applied traditional patterns to design to set developmental capacity of design and a direction of fence design in the past, present and future. It's analyzed the present condition of domestic manufacturers and examples for installation, selected randomly 7 places of domestic cultural places as an alternative to compare the previous design to the present design with 3D design and photos composing method, and developed the related situation. Also, It's visualized this method to let the citizens and all levels of society determine the design. besides that, developed the traditional patterns to apply the patterns to the design, considering the characteristic of each region and characteristic of each road. It's suggested this fence design to apply the image of advanced Korea and Seoul as a creative cultural city, and the international status of Korea and Seoul to the trees on the historical and traditional street. Also, put an importance to bring the identity of Seoul and Korea in the world into relief.

Therefore the design of benches must be considered in the aspects of not only aesthetic design but also ergonomic design. The goal of this study is to find out the current conditions and problems of benches and at the same time suggest how to arrange, design, and manage them at the proper manners at subway platform. The result of the study is as follows. First, the problems of design are that the benches at a same platform have various design, the saturation of color is too high, and the design is unfashionable. The second, at the management part there is no such a total management system and specialist for the street furniture section and lack of rational management regulations. The third, results of a new survey suggest that citizens think negatively about present bench's conditions such as design and administration.

  • Environmental furniture comprises an independent design branch as distinguished from he design of street furniture. Environmental furniture helps people enjoy outdoor relaxation and cultural activities by creating convenient facilities and plays a part as the medium connecting environment and living. As a tool effecting all outdoor living conditions including home and public environment, it helps people lead a convenient and safe outdoor life. It is an important element that contributes to the image of outdoor scenery. Therefore, the design of environmental furniture should : 1)consider environment including 3R(Recycle, Reuse and Reduce) which makes harmony with nature without destroying it. 2)seek qualitative improvement by using environmental friendly materials and continuously developing new materials. 3)be assisted by the administrative support from the government to make the environmental furniture design an integral part of the city plan. The quality of a city environment will be greatly improved when people's interest in and their changed view towards environmental furniture is effected.

  • This study evaluated the importance of technical characteristics in manufacturing street furniture using 3D printing technology to suggest the direction of development of high priority 3D printing technology. The importance was analyzed by the QFD, quantified by scores and the priority of the items was summarized. As a result, the 'output size', 'shrinkage of material', and 'output angle' were derived as technical elements that should be prioritized in development and research. For verification, the design of atypical street furniture was made into a large 3D printed output and the development direction was suggested by applying the technical elements of priority during the manufacturing process. Street furniture should be designed based on functionality and stability, as well as economic efficiency, productivity, and aesthetics. Therefore, the 'output size' ensured stability by minimizing the division of parts, and the 'contractability of materials' satisfied the aesthetic and productivity by minimizing the error of form. Finally, the 'output angle' was verified by improving the quality of the output and selecting an angle with efficient and structural stability through various output angles.

  • This study was carried out to develop eco-friendly wood street lamp (EFWSL) by using wood resources stacked in the forests after tree tending operations which were mostly abandoned, but economical as renewable wood resources for developing the wood coated street lamps with the effects of cost reduction and their attractive appearances. This study has led to the development of key compact structures of street-lighting wood poles (shaft) using laminated timber. The core technique in this study is related with producing the more stable wood poles (shaft) with the hole inside than wood poles exposed under the natural environment through applicable process to protect the wood from bursting and splitting. We also comprehensively developed the method to conserve the timber durability of wood shaft and connect the wood shaft with groove, race way to be located in the groove, locking ring, current stabilizer connected to the groove and luminaire support arm, base and hand-hole which was partly used in combination with steel materials and wood. Also we increased the utilization of abandoned and stacked woods after thinning in the forests such as Pinus densiflora, Larix leptolepis, and Pinus koraiensis plantations by maximizing the value of these natural wood resources as main materials of eco-friendly street lightings with the effects of cost reduction and attractive appearances and also the expectation of advertising effects of street lightings developed in this study.

  • In Korea, the top priority of the exterior space in the urban commercial street has been put on the road and parking for cars, not on the street for pedestrians, because of the lack of institutional urban planning, the land use of high density, the pursuit of maximum commercial profit, etc. Also, it is true that the form and facade of the street buildings which form the characteristics of the commercial street are regarded as the consumption-stimulating tool and, subsequently, are symbolized for commercial profit. This study starts from the recognition of reality, and, with the perspective of general plan for urban exterior space, tries to improve the environmental design of street space. Also, this study searches the ways to enhance the cultural, art, aesthetic and functional values of a city, as well as the ways to promote commercial activities and to perform commercial symbolism and pedestrian functions. This study aims at exploring the importance of street environmental design and the information of environmental design, so that the problems of current street environment, which generates the disorder and chaos of information, may be solved. Also, this study aims at promoting the continuous development for the future street environmental design and design plan.

  • In farming area, the elderly population is increasing year after year. And the gap between farming area and the city regarding quality of life is getting bigger and bigger. Besides, it has much poorer ground for living than the city. The current farming village maintenance project is adopting a different system now from the top-down project exclusively led by the government in the past to the bottom-up one reflecting how the residents think positively. Lack of the residents' understanding and education about the maintenance project, however, some of them are just focused on maintenance and development distorted from making a village where people want to live. Accordingly, this study will analyze the characteristics of farming villages by their types based on field research and spatial analysis using Space Syntax in order to develop more premeditated and effective maintenance plans to perform maintenance in farming area. As a result, When you install streetlights street lights should be installed at places with a high of Connectivity and spatial depth is deep. Based on this method, the research is going to suggest the current status of street furniture improvement in the villages and the proper positions for their future installation.
