This study aims to examine the perceptual features of street buildings, which affect the urban scape, and establish design guidelines by types of buildings. According to this purpose, this study conducted document research, field survey through site visits and questionnaire survey for each subject. The field survey was carried out to study the exterior form characteristics of street buildings, and images of the streetscape in Gyeongju. For the questionnaire survey, the preference of 33 architecture-related people on the formal constituents of street buildings was investigated. The results of the document research, field survey and questionnaire survey were put together to elaborate the design guideline for urban street facade in historical city.

Recently there have been great interest in the street landscapes, and numerous studies have been investigating shaping processes of urban landscapes, legal systems for scenery management, landscape preference and evaluation techniques. However, there are only few studies investigating how planting types influence on street landscape evaluation and how the relationships among street landscapes are. This study aims to make a guidelines which can be used for securing afforestation in urban settings and improving urban environment. In specific, the results of this study can provide guidelines for urban street design and the base knowledge for identifying appropriate requirements for better street landscapes. We identify factors which make shape certain images of street landscape, and draw physical factors influencing on visual appropriateness through visual landscapes evaluation process. To evaluate landscapes according to planting types, on-the-spot survey at 14 streets in Gang-Nam district were made. The district is under executing street improving projects and shows the most satisfying planting types. To evaluate street landscapes which people experience during their walking, 100m of continuous streets are chosen. The survey sites exclude streets with irregular pattern, are adjacent to large urban parks or are used as parking spaces in part. We evaluated 9 street landscapes classified into 1-line-planting, 2-line-planting and 3-line-planting on the basis of the location of planting and the planting methods.

Buildings' outward appearances, sidewalks, and street lights have long been regarded as important factors identifying the street landscape of a city. On the other hand, the interior spaces of a building have been known to have less correlation with street landscape. This paper, which did not use standardized urban street landscape application methods, attempts, based on an experiment involving Pimatgol, to prove that small changes in interior design influence the street landscapes of cities and even provide new vigorousness. Pimatgol is a type of village that still possesses a traditional Korean lyrical atmosphere. This paper also attempts to, with the use of a physical model and a digital simulation of small changes interior design, such as changes in materials, size of the opening, location of furniture, or a change of lights, uncover positive changes in street landscape. Computer simulation is one of the extraordinarily useful techniques to predict lighting performance, changing interior space and present visual image. As a result, this study can be a valuable guideline for the future streetscape reform project to lead the demanding effects of the interior space.

The fundamental concept of shared street is integration of traffic and pedestrian activity as a positive principle for street planning. Shared streets have been very successful in several countries in terms of reductions in traffic accidents, increased social interaction and children's play, and a high degree of satisfaction by the residents. This paper proposes the concept of shared street to solve traffic problem without reorganizing traditional street structure and without disturbing traditional function of street as a living space for residents. And this study examines detail concepts and techniques of the shared street and applies them to a pedestrian oriented streetscape design of "Ducksugung-Gil," Seoul, which was one of the most important streets in Korean modernization history.n history.

Industry of street lighting systems are growing rapidly and going to complexwith rapid growth of industry and cities. To control and maintain complex street lighting system more economically, various street light control systems are developed. Nevertheless most of developed systems have some drawbacks. So we are going to develop new light control system which can overcome old systems drawbacks. We surveyed various street light control systems and analyzed its characteristics. Through these efforts, we found that common drawbacks of most light control systems are uneasiness of handling and difficulty of maintenance. To reduce uneasiness of handling and difficulty of maintenance in operating light control system, we designed new street light control system by using Zigbee communication technique. In this thesis, we describe on the H/W design of new street light control system designed by using Zigbee communication protocol.

The purpose of this research is to suggest the direction of basic plan for vitalizing community center street which is stagnant by analyzing current state and results of urban design road in 'Gwangcheonro', a center of Gwangcheon community, and street environment improvement and seeking the measures of improvement. Through the on-the-site inspection and user interview of objective street, the problems were grasped to be narrowly walking road by obstacles, appearance damage by illegal advertisement facility, etc. To vitalize there as a main street for the improvement of walking environment, first is to establish street environment focusing on pedestrians, second is to improve street landscape, third is to design walking-friendly commercial complex and the final is to design street with factors through the relation with regional development factors.

The research object is Huayan Street, which is located in Datong City of Shanxi Province in Northern China. And it's detailedly seated to the east of the Huayan Temple. This street is a multicultural area which covers religious and business culture, along with other kinds of civilization since ancient time. The purpose of this research is to restore the historical and cultural tradition, improving the economic development. This research will use the theory of narrative to analyze the public design of Huayan Street. It's present the new design concept to reflect the cultural story of this region. First of all, the cultural stories of Huayan Street were explored and collected by introducing the history. Secondly, the drawbacks of public design of this street were found out by analyzing the current situation in Huayan Street At the end of this paper, a design solution was proposed according to the history and culture with story-telling methods from narratology which depart the street into four scenes opening, developing, changing and concluding. The innovation point of this research is apply humanism into the public design of Huayan Street and rebuild the image of Huayan Street.

Environmental sculpture is not just a decoration for architecture. It is a work of art with public interest and one of the best ways to improve street landscape design. Place of installation is very important for environmental sculpture, because it has close relationship with its surroundings and regional context. Field survey was performed on Teheran-Street, between Samsung station and Yeoksam station, central business district of Kang-Nam where lots of major buildings are located. All the 28 environmental sculptures facing Teheran-Street were examined. Relationship between environmental sculpture and street landscape design was investigated by three different points of view, relationship with architecture, intimacy with pedestrian, and space defined by the environmental sculpture. Environmental sculpture needs its own space and appropriate place to have beneficial influence on the sense of place. Environmental sculpture is important factor to control the quality of street landscape design. We should have macroscopic approach to determine place of installation, method and material of Environmental sculpture.

This study aims to evaluate the cultural street and to find ways to revitalize a culture street. To achieve this, the study relied on empirical study method and the descriptive method; additionally, present condition survey was performed with a user interview. As a result, the item of 'night visit' shows the highest mean and the item of 'convenience of walking' follows. It means that this street has such a good condition in the convenience and accessibility of physical environment that it gives pedestrians pleasure like night activity and satisfying their curiosity. 5 lowest items of inquiry, however, are all about regional history and origin. It means that this cultural street did not reflect the history and embody the original form of the street. Also, this study proposes 4 type of street; a street with contents, a street with sequence, a street for pedestrians, and a street with identity.
