With the advent of the Internet-of-Things paradigm, the amount of data production has grown exponentially and the user demand for responsive consumption of data has increased significantly. Herein, we present DART, a fast and lightweight stream processing framework for the IoT environment. Because the DART framework targets a geospatially distributed environment of heterogeneous devices, the framework provides (1) an end-user tool for device registration and application authoring, (2) automatic worker node monitoring and task allocations, and (3) runtime management of user applications with fault tolerance. To maximize performance, the DART framework adopts an actor model in which applications are segmented into microtasks and assigned to an actor following a single responsibility. To prove the feasibility of the proposed framework, we implemented the DART system. We also conducted experiments to show that the system can significantly reduce computing burdens and alleviate network load by utilizing the idle resources of intermediate edge devices.

The growth of using smartphone and tablet pc has enabled variety kinds of realtime applications. In these applications, the data which we called data stream is multidimensional, continuous, rapid, and time-varying. However the traditional Database Management System (DBMS) suffers from processing the real time and complex application, in this paper we proposed the framework for CCR Data Stream Server's design and implementation that compiled with Data Stream Database Management System (DSMS) and DBMS in EMR system. The system enables users not only to query stored CCR information from DBMS, but also to execute continues query for the real-time CCR Data Stream.
This paper describes a network framework that support network based humanoid. The framework utilizes middleware such as CORBA (ACE/TAO) that provides PnP capability for network based humanoid. The network framework transfers data gathered from a network based humanoid to a processing group that is distributed on a network. The data types are video stream, audio stream and control data. Also, the network framework transfers service data produced by the processing group to the network based humanoid. By using this network framework, the network based humanoid can provide high quality of intelligent services to user.
This paper deals with a resource efficient artificial intelligence (AI) service architecture for multi-channel video streams. As an AI service, we consider the object detection model, which is the most representative for video applications. Since most object detection models are basically designed for a single channel video stream, the utilization of the additional resource for multi-channel video stream processing is inevitable. Therefore, we propose a resource efficient AI service framework, which can be associated with various AI service models. Our framework is designed based on the modular architecture, which consists of adaptive frame control (AFC) Manager, multiplexer (MUX), adaptive channel selector (ACS), and YOLO interface units. In order to run only a single YOLO process without regard to the number of channels, we propose a novel approach efficiently dealing with multi-channel input streams. Through the experiment, it is shown that the framework is capable of performing object detection service with minimum resource utilization even in the circumstance of multi-channel streams. In addition, each service can be guaranteed within a deadline.
Due to advances in machine intelligence and increased demands for autonomous machines, the complexity of the underlying software platform is increasing at a rapid pace, overwhelming the developers with implementation details. We attempt to ease the burden that falls onto the developers by creating a graphical programming framework we named Splash. Splash is designed to provide an effective programming abstraction for autonomous machines that require stream processing. It also enables programmers to specify genuine, end-to-end timing constraints, which the Splash framework automatically monitors for violation. By utilizing the timing constraints, Splash provides three key language semantics: timing semantics, in-order delivery semantics, and rate-controlled data-driven stream processing semantics. These three semantics together collectively serve as a conceptual tool that can hide low-level details from programmers, allowing developers to focus on the main logic of their applications. In this paper, we introduce the three-language semantics in detail and explain their function in association with Splash's language constructs. Furthermore, we present the internal workings of the Splash programming framework and validate its effectiveness via a lane keeping assist system.
Recently, the importance of velocity, one of the characteristics of big data (5V: Volume, Variety, Velocity, Veracity, and Value), has been emphasized in the data processing, which has led to several studies on the real-time stream processing, a technology for quick and accurate processing and analyses of big data. In this paper, we propose a Squall framework using Time-triggered Message-triggered Object (TMO) technology, a model that is widely used for processing real-time big data. Moreover, we provide a description of Squall framework and its operations under a single node. TMO is an object model that supports the non-regular real-time processing method for certain conditions as well as regular periodic processing for certain amount of time. A Squall framework can support the real-time event stream of big data and micro-batch processing with outstanding performances, as compared to Apache storm and Spark Streaming. However, additional development for processing real-time stream under multiple nodes that is common under most frameworks is needed. In conclusion, the advantages of a TMO model can overcome the drawbacks of Apache storm or Spark Streaming in the processing of real-time big data. The TMO model has potential as a useful model in real-time big data processing.
The emerging notion of data stream has brought many new challenges to the research communities as a consequence of its conceptual difference with conventional concepts of just data. One typical example is data stream processing in sensor networks. The range of data processing considerations in a sensor network is very wide, from physical resource restrictions such as bandwidth, energy, and memory to the peculiarities of query processing including continuous and specific types of queries. In this paper, as one of the physical constraints in data stream processing, we consider the problem of limited memory and propose a new scheme for data stream reduction based on the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) technique. PCA can transform a number of (possibly) correlated variables into a (smaller) number of uncorrelated variables. We adapt PCA for the data stream of a sensor network assuming the cooperation of a query engine (or application) with a network base station. Our method exploits the spatio-temporal correlation among multiple measurements from different sensors. Finally, we present a new framework for data processing and describe a number of experiments under this framework. We compare our scheme with the wavelet transform and observe the effect of time stamps on the compression ratio. We report on some of the results.
This paper present a design and implementation of a distributed audio, Video stream service framework based on CORBA for efficient processing and control of audio/video stream. We design software components which support processing, control and transmission of audio/video streams as distributed objects. For optimization of stream transmission performance, we separate the transmission path of control data and media data. Distributed objects are defined by IDL and implemented using JAVA. And device dependent facilities like media capturing, playing and communication channels are implemented using JMF (Java Media Framework) components. We show a connection establishment and control procedure of streams communication. And for evaluation, we implement a test system and experiment a system performance. Our experiments show that test system has somewhat longer connection latency time compared to TCP connection establishment, but has optimized media transmission time compared to CORBA IIOP. Also test system show acceptable service quality of media transmission.
Efficient Query processing and optimization are critical for reducing network traffic and decreasing latency of query when accessing and manipulating sensor data of large-scale sensor networks. Currently it has been studied in sensor database projects. These works have mainly focused on in-network query processing for sensor networks and assumes homogeneous sensor networks, where each sensor network has same hardware and software configuration. In this paper, we present a framework for efficient query processing over heterogeneous sensor networks. Our proposed framework introduces query processing paradigm considering two heterogeneous characteristics of sensor networks: (1) data dissemination approach such as push, pull, and hybrid; (2) query processing capability of sensor networks if they may support in-network aggregation, spatial, periodic and conditional operators. Additionally, we propose multi-query optimization strategies supporting cross-translation between data acquisition query and data stream query to minimize total cost of multiple queries. It has been implemented in WSN middleware, COSMOS, developed by ETRI.
Object detection techniques based on deep learning such as YOLO have high detection performance and precision in a single channel video stream. In order to expand to multiple channel object detection in real-time, however, high-performance hardware is required. In this paper, we propose a novel back-end server framework, a real-time AI vision platform (RAVIP), which can extend the object detection function from single channel to simultaneous multi-channels, which can work well even in low-end server hardware. RAVIP assembles appropriate component modules from the RODEM (real-time object detection module) Base to create per-channel instances for each channel, enabling efficient parallelization of object detection instances on limited hardware resources through continuous monitoring with respect to resource utilization. Through practical experiments, RAVIP shows that it is possible to optimize CPU, GPU, and memory utilization while performing object detection service in a multi-channel situation. In addition, it has been proven that RAVIP can provide object detection services with 25 FPS for all 16 channels at the same time.
