Stream service environment demands real-time query processing for voluminous data which are ceaselessly delivered from tremendous sources. Typical R-tree based query processing technologies cannot efficiently handle such situations, which require repetitive and inefficient exploration from the tree root on every data event. However, many stream data including sensor readings show high locality, which we exploit to reduce the search space of queries to explore. In this paper, we propose a query processing scheme exploiting the locality of stream data. From the simulation, we conclude that the proposed scheme performs much better than the traditional ones in terms of scalability and exploration efficiency.
Risk management system should be able to support a decision making within a short time to analyze stream data in real time. Many analytical systems consist of CPU computation and disk based database. However, it is more problematic when existing system analyzes stream data in real time. Stream data has various production periods from 1ms to 1 hour, 1day. One sensor generates small data but tens of thousands sensors generate huge amount of data. If hundreds of thousands sensors generate 1GB data per second, CPU based system cannot analyze the data in real time. For this reason, it requires fast processing speed and scalability for analyze stream data. In this paper, we present a fast visualization technique that consists of hybrid database and GPU computation. In order to evaluate our technique, we demonstrate a visual analytics system that analyzes pipeline leak using sensor and tweet data.
Pattern matching is increasingly being employed in various researches as health care service, RFID-based system, facility management, and surveillance. Geosensor filter correlates a data stream to match specific patterns in distribution environments. In this paper, we present a geosensor query language to represent efficiently declarative geosensor query. Geosensor operators are proposed to use for fast query processing in terms of spatial and temporal area in distribution environments. We also propose a geosensor filter to match new query predicates into incoming stream predicates. Our filter can reduce the volume of transmission data and save power consumption of sensors. It can be utilized the stream data mining system to process in real-time various data as location, time, and geosensor information in distribution environments.
Traditional query processing method is not efficient for continuous queries with large continuous stream data. This paper proposes a data-driven query processing method for stream data. The structure of query plan and query execution method are presented. With the proposed method, multiple query processing and sharing among queries can be achieved. Also query execution time can be reduced by storing partial results of query execution. This paper showed an example of query processing with XML data and XQuery query.
In digital broadcasting, applications are computer programs executed by the set-top box(TV receiver) , and synchronized applications are those that perform tasks at the specified moments in the underlying video. This paper describes important concepts, standards, and skills needed to implement synchronized applications and explains how to integrate them to implement these applications. This Paper assumes the European data broadcasting standard, DVB-MHP. In DVB-MHP, scheduled stream events are recommended as a means of synchronizing applications with video streams. In this method, the application receives each stream event, and executes the action associated with the stream event at the time specified in the stream event. Commercially available stream generators, i.e., multiplexers, do not generate transport streams that support scheduled stream events. So we used a stream generator implemented in our lab. We implemented a synchronized application where the actions triggered by stream events are to display graphic images. We found that our synchronized application processes scheduled stream events successfully. In our experimentation, the stream events were synchronized with the video and the deviation from the intended time was within 240 ㎳, which is a tolerance for synchronization skew between graphic images and video.

Unsupervised Video Object Segmentation (UVOS) is a highly challenging problem in computer vision as the annotation of the target object in the testing video is unknown at all. The main difficulty is to effectively handle the complicated and changeable motion state of the target object and the confusion of similar background objects in video sequence. In this paper, we propose a novel deep Dual-stream Co-enhanced Network (DC-Net) for UVOS via bidirectional motion cues refinement and multi-level feature aggregation, which can fully take advantage of motion cues and effectively integrate different level features to produce high-quality segmentation mask. DC-Net is a dual-stream architecture where the two streams are co-enhanced by each other. One is a motion stream with a Motion-cues Refine Module (MRM), which learns from bidirectional optical flow images and produces fine-grained and complete distinctive motion saliency map, and the other is an appearance stream with a Multi-level Feature Aggregation Module (MFAM) and a Context Attention Module (CAM) which are designed to integrate the different level features effectively. Specifically, the motion saliency map obtained by the motion stream is fused with each stage of the decoder in the appearance stream to improve the segmentation, and in turn the segmentation loss in the appearance stream feeds back into the motion stream to enhance the motion refinement. Experimental results on three datasets (Davis2016, VideoSD, SegTrack-v2) demonstrate that DC-Net has achieved comparable results with some state-of-the-art methods.
As we are getting to deal with more applications that generate streaming data such as sensor network, monitoring, and SDI (selective dissemination of information), active research is being conducted to support efficient processing of queries over streaming data. The applications on the Web environment like SDI, among others, require query processing over streaming XML data, and its investigation is very important because XML has been established as the standard for data exchange on the Web. One of the major problems with the previous systems that support query processing over streaming XML data is that they cannot deal adaptively with dynamically changing stream because they rely on static query plans. On the other hand, the stream query processing systems based on relational data model have achieved adaptiveness in query processing due to query operator routing. In this paper, we propose a system of adaptive query processing over streaming XML data in which the model of adaptive query processing over streaming relational data is applied. We compare our system with YFiiter, one of the representative systems that provide XML stream query processing capability, to show efficiency of our system.
A data stream is a massive unbounded sequence of data elements continuously generated at a rapid rate. Due to the characteristics of a data stream, it is impossible to save all the data elements of a data stream. Therefore it is necessary to define a new synopsis structure to store the summary information of a data stream. For this purpose, this paper proposes a cuboid prefix tree that can be effectively employed in evaluating an iceberg query over data streams. A cuboid prefix tree only stores those itemsets that consist of grouping attributes used in GROUP BY query. In addition, a cuboid prefix tree can compute multiple iceberg queries simultaneously by sharing their common sub-expressions. A cuboid prefix tree evaluates an iceberg query over an infinitely generated data stream while efficiently reducing memory usage and processing time, which is verified by a series of experiments.
Spatiotemporal changes in the thermal environment in a large city, Seoul, Korea were analyzed using a thermal index, perceived temperature (PT), to standardize the weather conditions. PT is a standard index for the thermal balance of human beings in thermophysiological environment. For the analysis of PT, the data from long-term monitoring and intensive observations in and around the inner-city stream called 'Cheonggye' in Seoul, were compared with a reference data from the Seoul weather station. Long-term data were monitored by installing two automatic weather stations at 66m (S1) and 173m (S2) away from the center of the stream. Through the analysis of the data during the summer of 2006 and intensive observation periods, it was revealed that the stream's effects on the PT extended up to the distance of the S1 site. In winter, the increase of the PT between pre- and post-restoration was stronger at S1, which was nearer than S2 from the stream. These results suggest that PT can be used as an effective model in analyzing the changes of the thermal environment in relation with the changes of water surface areas.

The telematics data management deals with queries on stream data coming from moving cars. So the stream DBMS should process the large amount of data stream in real-time. In this article, previous research projects are analyzed in the aspects of query processing. And a hybrid model is introduced where query preprocessor is used to process all types of queries in one singe system. Decreasing cost and rapidly increasing Performance of devices may guarantee the utmost parallelism of the hybrid system. As a result, various types of stream DBMS queries could be processed in a uniform and efficient way in a single system.
