In Korea, rice cultivars have been changing to 'quality' rice rather than high yielding cultivars. However, more than 10% of paddy field has been changed to greenhouse in winter season for cropping of water-melon, oriental-melon, straw berry and et cetra. This experiment has been made to identify the usefulness of critical N and Si fertilization(SF) level to obtain high grain quality rice with reduced insect pest damage by N and SF combination. Before the experiment, watermelon-rice cropping system was maintained for three seasons by farmer from 1998 to 2001. The experiment of N and Si (silicate) fertilization levels was evaluated with Hwayoung-byeo (Oryza sativa L., medium-maturing variety) in 2002 and 2003 in Uiryeong, Korea. Nitrogen fertilization (NF) levels were three and five in 2002 and 2003, respectively, and three SF levels were compared for getting the valuable N/SF level in both years. TOYO-value was positively affected by Si application in N100% plot but it was negatively related with NF level. Normal grain percentage was positively related with TOYO-value and it was highest in 0N plot and Si plots in N100%. Other appearance qualities like powdered, damaged, and cracked grain, were decreased with increasing N fertilization level. SF improved appearance quality in N100% plots but no effects in other treatments. Leaf sheath related diseases were significantly decreased by SF but it was negatively related with NF. In conclusion, SF could be improve grain quality at the same yield levels of conventional fertilization and it also could be reduce the diseases damages of rice plant in all N treatments. NF treatment reduced grain quality and improved grain yield at N50% level, however NF above N50% could not get any kind of benefits. So, compared with conventional fertilizer, reduced NF level is recommended for high grain quality with reduced insect pest damage.
This study was designed to investigate effect of cryoprotectant kinds and cell stages on the viability of bovine embryos cryopreserved by vitrification. The oocytes were collected from ovarian follicles of Korean native cows. The follicular oocytes were cultured in TCM-199 medium containing hormone and 10%(v/v) FCS for 24~48hrs in a incubator with 5% $CO_2$, in air at 38.5$^{\circ}C$ and then matured oocytes were again cultured for 7~10 hrs with spermatozoa capacitated by preincubation. The vitrification solutions of EFS and EDS were consisted of 40%(v/v) ethylene glycol, 18%(v/v) Ficoll and 0.3M sucrose, and 20%(v/v) ethylene glycol, 16.5%(v/v) DMSO and 0.5M sucrose in TCM-199 medium supplemented with 10% FCS, respectively. The embryos were exposed to EFS or EDS at $25^{\circ}C$ and loaded into OPP straw for 30 sec. The plug end of each straws was heat-sealed and straws was slowly immersed into liquid nitrogen(L$N_2$). The results obtained were summarized as follows : 1 . The rates of cleavage and hatching of embryos frozen with vitrification, rapid and slow freezing methods were 67.5%, 27.5% and 42.5%, 20.0% and 52.5%, 25.0%, respectively And rates of cleavage and hatching of embryos frozen with vitrification method were significantly(p<0.05) higher than those in other methods, and the rates were lower than those in control group(82.5% and 37.5%). 2. The rates of cleavage and hatching of embryos were significantly(p<0.05) different between EFS(47.5% and 22.5%) and EPS(52.5% and 27.5%), and the rates were lower than those in control group(82.5% and 37.5%). 3. After vitrification freezing of bovine embryos at zygote, 2 cell, 8 cell, morulae and blastocyst stage, the rate of cleavage and hatching were 25.0% and 15.0%, 32.5% and 20.0%, 37.5% and 20.0%, 52.5%, 27.5%, 47.5% and 25.0%, respectively. And developmental rates to the expended blastocyst stage of embryos frozen at zygote stage was significantly(p<0.05) lower rather than those in 2, 8-cell and morulae stage.

Asparagus varieties popular in the foreign countries were collected and tested on their productivities and qualities for five years under rain shelter and open field conditions. Among the tested varieties, cultivars of UC309 and Excel showed superior productivity to the others in spear weight but the initial growth was not different among the tested varieties. However, the growth index was higher than the other varieties. According to the result from eight-year experiment, the best variety in productivity and quality were UC309 and Excel both for rain shelter and open field cultivations. To avoid the damage caused by stem blight, rain shelter and soil surface mulching treatments were tested with var. Excel. The spear sprouting and first harvesting date were a few days earlier in rain shelter cultivation than in open field, but there were no differences among the mulching materials. The number of spears and the spear weight per plant were increased in rain shelter cultivation, especially with rice straw and black P.E. mulching treatments. Marketable yield also increased by 253% in black P.E film mulching in rain shelter cultivation compared to non-mulching in open field. The stem blight examined in the autumn, 1997 was not observed under rain shelter treatment, but severe damage was observed in the open field regardless of the mulching materials. In the experiments, high asparagus yield could be achieved by black P.E. film mulching in rain shelter cultivation without the occurrence of stem blight.

BACKGROUND: The nutrient balance in Korea during 1985-2006 had continually increased and maintained the highest levels among OECD countries. The use of green manure crops such as barley and hairy vetch is common practice for reducing chemical fertilizer application and maintaining soil fertility. However, green manure crops can also be used as a livestock feeding material which may reduce nutrient balance in the national scale. We calculated nitrogen and phosphate balance under green manure-rice cultivating system where all green manure was removed and used for feeding livestock. METHODS AND RESULTS: The barley and hairy vetch grown in pure stands or in mixtures with different sowing rates were tested for rice cultivation without chemical fertilization. The conventional fertilization (NPK) for rice cultivation was selected to compare nutrient balance with green manure-rice cultivation. Nitrogen and phosphate balance were calculated according to the surface balance method of the PARCOM guidelines. Total aboveground biomass of mixture (barley and hairy vetch) was higher compared to that of pure barley or hairy vetch. Among the mixture with barley and hairy vetch, the highest aboveground biomass was observed in B75H25 (barley 75%+hairy vetch 25%). The nitrogen and phosphate balance in the B75H25 mixture was-104 kg N/ha and-50.3 kg P/ha, respectively. CONCLUSION(S): The barley and hairy vetch mixture proved to be a very effective strategy for biomass production of green manure. The amount of nitrogen and phosphate fertilizer to be applied is estimated to be 104 kg N/ha and 50.3 kg P/ha in order to maintain soil fertility if all green manure and rice straw were removed from rice field for livestock feeding.

A new oil crop chufa(Cyperus esculentus var. sativus) was studied to evaluate the yield potential of tuber and productivity of leaf as a new forage crop resources. Response to nitrogen fertilizer was not clear, showing low yield over 10kg/l0a of nitrogen application. Tuber yield was higher at 50cm $\times$ 15cm and 50cm$\times$20cm of planting population of tuber. Planting at early May showed high tuber yield, and sprouting tuber planting could not increased the tuber yield. The plant height of Chufa is 126cm, and the number of tiller per $\m^2$ are 671. It is moderate to lodging, but susceptable according to the amount of field products. Fresh forage and dry matter yield of above ground of chufa were 2,135kg/10a, and 590kg/l0a, respectively. The contents of crude protein, ether extract, fiber, ash, and acid detergent fiber are 24.8%, 8.1%, 38%, 64.4%, 52.8%, and 55.9%, respectively. It was considered that the nutritive value of chufa leaf in maturing stage was so good as rice straw.
Analytical methods for residues of six N-methylcarbamate insecticides were investigated to compare the minimum detectability, recovery from several crops and feasibility of multiple residue analysis. Those methods studied in this work included spectrophotometry by diazotization and gas chromatography by N-trifluoroacetylation(TFA), pentafluorobenzylether(PFB) and dinitrophenylether (DNP) derivatization. Maximum absorbed wavelength of the diazotized MIPC, XMC, BPMC, propoxur and carbofu ran was around 460 ㎚, while that of carbaryl recorded 510 ㎚. Recovery from brown rice and apple by diazotization method ranged from 80 to 120% and minimum detectable limits were 0.03 to 0.05 ppm in 50 g of the sample. Minimum detectability of PFB derivatives by gas chromatography was superior to TFA and DNP derivatives. DNP derivatives showed the longest retention time among the given derivatives. Recovery from crops by gas chromatographic met hod ranged 74 to 94%, 78 to 93%, and 85 to 99% in brown rice, rice straw and apple, respectively. Limit of detection was 0.01 ppm for TFA, 0.005 ppm for PFB and 0.02 ppm for DNP derivatives in 50 g of the crop samples.
During a dilute acid hydrolysis, degradation products are formed or liberated by pre-treatment of lignocelluloses depend on both the biomass and the pretreatment conditions such as temperature, time, pressure, pH, redox conditions, and addition of catalysts. In lignocellulosic biomass, sugars can be degraded to furfural which is formed from pentoses and 5-hydroxymethulfurfural (HMF) from hexoses. 5-HMF can be further degraded, forming levulinic acid and formic acid. Acetate is liberated from hemicellulose during hydrolysis. Some decomposed compounds hinder the subsequent bioconversion of the solubilized sugars into desired products, reducing conversion yields and rates during fermentation. In the present work, samples of rapeseed strawwere hydrolyzed to study the optimal pretreatment condition by assessing yields of sugars and decomposed products obtained under different reaction conditions ($H_2SO_4$ 0.5-1.25% (w/w), reaction time 0-20 min and temperature range 150-220 C). A careful analytical investigation of acid hydrolyzate of rapeseed straw has not yet been undertaken, and a well-closed mass balance for the hydrolyzate in general is necessary to verify the productivity and economic predictions for this process.
Lignocellulose ($2^{nd}$ generation) is difficult to hydrolyze due to the presence of lignin and the technology developed for cellulose fermentation to ethanol is not yet economically viable. However, recent advances in the extremely new field of biotechnology for the ethanol production are making it possible to use of agriculture residuals and nonedible crops biomass, e.q., rice straw and miscanthus sinensis, because of their several superior aspects as agriculture residual and nonedible crops biomass; low lignin, high contents of carbohydrates. In this article, as the basic study of AP(Ammonia Percolation), the properties and the optium conditions of process were established, and then the overall efficiency of AP was investigated. The important independent variables for AP process were selected as ammonia concentration, reaction temperature, and reaction time. The percolation condition for maximizing the content of cellulose, the enzymatic digestibility, and the lignin removal was optimized using RSM(Response Surface Methodology). The determined optimum condition is ammonia concentration; 11.27%, reaction temperature; $157.75^{\circ}C$, and reaction time; 10.01 min. The satisfying results were obtained under this optimized condition, that is, the results are as follows: cellulose content(relative); 39.98%, lignin content(relative); 8.01%, and enzymatic digestibility; 85.89%.
Objective: This study was aimed at evaluating effects of cattle breed resources and alternative mixed-feeding practices on meat productivity and emission intensities from household farming systems (HFS) in Daklak Province, Vietnam. Methods: Records from Local $Yellow{\time}Red$ Sindhi (Bos indicus; Lai Sind) and 1/2 Limousin, 1/2 Drought Master, and 1/2 Red Angus cattle during the growth (0 to 21 months) and fattening (22 to 25 months) periods were used to better understand variations on meat productivity and enteric methane emissions. Parameters were determined by the ruminant model. Four scenarios were developed: (HFS1) grazing from birth to slaughter on native grasses for approximately 10 h plus 1.5 kg dry matter/d (0.8% live weight [LW]) of a mixture of guinea grass (19%), cassava (43%) powder, cotton (23%) seed, and rice (15%) straw; (HFS2) growth period fed with elephant grass (1% of LW) plus supplementation (1.5% of LW) of rice bran (36%), maize (33%), and cassava (31%) meals; and HFS3 and HFS4 computed elephant grass, but concentrate supplementation reaching 2% and 1% of LW, respectively. Results: Results show that compared to HFS1, emissions ($72.3{\pm}0.96kg\;CH_4/animal/life$; least squares $means{\pm}standard$ error of the mean) were 15%, 6%, and 23% lower (p<0.01) for the HFS2, HFS3, and HFS4, respectively. The predicted methane efficiencies ($CO_2eq$) per kg of LW at slaughter ($4.3{\pm}0.15$), carcass weight ($8.8{\pm}0.25kg$) and kg of edible protein ($44.1{\pm}1.29$) were also lower (p<0.05) in the HFS4. In particular, irrespective of the HSF, feed supply and ratio changes had a more positive impact on emission intensities when crossbred 1/2 Red Angus cattle were fed than in their crossbred counterparts. Conclusion: Modest improvements on feeding practices and integrated modelling frameworks may offer potential trade-offs to respond to climate change in Vietnam.

1. (시행일) 이 약관은 2016년 9월 5일부터 적용되며, 종전 약관은 본 약관으로 대체되며, 개정된 약관의 적용일 이전 가입자도 개정된 약관의 적용을 받습니다.
