Effects of Cash and Non-Cash Communications on Brand Awareness: An Empirical Evidence from Saudi Arabia

  • This study aimed to measure the monetary and non-monetary effects on brand awareness at hypermarkets in Riyadh. The independent variable consists of three sub-variables: price reductions, free samples, and purchasing vouchers. The research population has all Saudi and non-Saudi buyers in Riyadh. The figures show that the population size reached 3.87 million in 2019. The proportional stratification sampling technique and the recommended sample size were 387 buyers. The five-point Likert scale with the fully structured questionnaire was used. The study concldes the effect of free samples on brand awareness while there was no effect of monetary instruments. The results show that the three sales promotion incentives (price reduction, free samples, and purchasing vouchers) moderately affected brand awareness and a key role in explaining consumer behavior, so the significant impact was proved. In summary, this study showed that price reductions have the power of creating the perception of buyers at hypermarkets in Riyadh. Non-cash instruments were more effective than cash instruments in enhancing brand awareness at the hypermarkets in the Saudi market. So, the price reductions and purchasing vouchers have less power in conducting communication-based awareness. Building awareness and improving brand image through free samples were most visible in communication strategy.

The Study of Operating Conditions by Establishing Density Currents Generator for Improving of Water Quality on Lake Water - With Focus on DO and Water Temperature - (호소수의 수질개선을 위한 DCG 설치시 운전조건에 관한 연구 - DO와 수온을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of applying density current generator (hereafter referred to as DCG to large lakes on the operating conditions of DCG, de-stratification, water quality improvement and inhibition of algae occurrence. As a result of a survey conducted to derive the optimum operating parameters of DCG in a condition to minimize eco-toxicity, the following conclusions were obtained. During the survey period, a marked stratification appeared in September to October 2011 and May 2012. At this time, the average depth of water to form thermocline was found to be $5{\pm}2$ m, so the location of discharge port for the operation of DCG was determined to be about 5 m below from the surface. To minimize the adverse effects of benthos and obtain the effect of water mixture at the time of water circulation, the mixing ratio of surface water and deep water was designed to be 3:1 by means of ecotoxicological assessment on the DCG operating characteristics. To select the appropriate operating hours for DCG, DCG was operated by 12 hr, 24 hr, 36 hr and 48 hr. As its result, the formation of thermocline did not occur during the operation of 36 hr. Also, It was effected that start reoperating from 3rd day after stop 2days under the condition of operated during 36 hr with calculated power consumption. Under the above conditions, the results of DO and water temperature analysis during the operation of DCG showed that the stratification, which was distinct previously, appeared to be weak, and relatively lower levels than those before operation were found as a result of water quality analysis on COD and chlorophyll-a, which leads to the conclusion that the water body is maintained at a stable condition due to the circulation of water by the occurrence of density current resulting from the operation of DCG.

  • The effect of vertical stratification of perlite by particle size on the growth and yield of tomato In a recycling hydroponics was examined. Vertical stratifications were composed of mixed form of small medium and large size (MP), divided forms of small and large size (smal1/1arge, DP I), and medium and large size (medium/large, DP II). Tomatoes showed higher growth in divided form, specially in DP II than DP I. Deformed fruits had higher occurrence by 17.8% in the mixed form than divided forms, while they were not significantly different between mixed forms. Root activity tended to increase during 20 days to 50 days after transplanting (DAT) in all treatments, but showed highest value at 50 DAT in DP II. After harvest electric conductivity and pH of stratified perlite were slightly higher in upper zone of DP I, but were not different in the other treatments. Mineral contents in the medium after harvest were higher in lower zone than the upper zone in MP and DP II, but vice versa in DP I.

Wind and Bathymetry Effects on the Fresh Water Plume Structures (담수 확산에 미치는 바람과 해저 지형의 영향)

  • The structures of fresh water plume depending on estuarine geometries and wind directions (upwelling, onshore, downwelling, and offshore winds) were studied using the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS). Four idealized estuaries, which are different in bathymetry, were considered. The results showed that the fresh water plume was restricted close to the shore line where a river was connected to the sloping shelf rather than the flat shelf due to the fast momentum exchanges from x, y to z momentums on the sloping shelf. Mild upwelling and offshore winds (${\mid}{\tau}_{\omega}{\mid}=0.01Pa$) enhanced stratification on the contrast to previous studies which showed that winds destroyed stratification by enhanced vertical mixing. However, downwelling and onshore winds had similar effects on the vertical structure of the fresh water plume as in previous studies enhancing vertical mixing. The plume was confined above the underneath submarine channel, thus the plume path was directly affected by the direction of the submarine channel on the shelf.

Simulations of the Effect of Flow Control and Phosphate Loading on the Reduction of Algae Biomass in Gangjeong-Goryong Weir (유량 조절과 인 부하 변동에 따른 강정고령보 조류저감 효과 수치 모의)

  • The purpose of this study was to validate the EFDC model for the weir pool of Gangjeong-Goryong Weir located in Nakdong River, and evaluate the effect of flow control and phosphate loading reduction on the water quality and algae biomass by group (Diatom, Green, Cyanobacteria). As a result of model validation using 2018 experimental data,the time series of water level and vertical distribution of water temperature, DO, organic matter, nitrogen, and phosphorus time series were properly simulated. Seasonal fluctuations of algae biomass by group were adequately reproduced, but the deviations between measured and simulated values were significant in some periods. As a result of scenario simulations to control the water level and flow rate, the thermal stratification was resolved as the water level was lowered and the flow rate increased. The flow velocity at which the water temperature stratification was resolved was about 0.1 m/s, which is consistent with the previous study results of Baekje Weir in Geum River. Simulations of the 2Q flow scenario showed that Chl-a decreased by 8.7% and the cell density of diatom and green algae declined. The cell density of cyanobacteria increased, however, because the high concentrations of cyanobacteria in the upstream boundary conditions directly affected downstream due to increased flow velocity. In the scenario simulation of reducing the influent phosphate load concentration (average 0.056 mg/L) to 50%, Chl-a decreased by 13.6%.The results suggest that the upstream algae concentration and phosphorus load reduction should be considered simultaneously with hydraulic control to prevent algal overgrowth of Gangjeong-Goryong Weir.

Clinical Effect of Transverse Process Hook with K-Means Clustering-Based Stratification of Computed Tomography Hounsfield Unit at Upper Instrumented Vertebra Level in Adult Spinal Deformity Patients

  • Objective : This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of transverse process (TP) hook system at the upper instrumented vertebra (UIV) for preventing screw pullout in adult spinal deformity surgery using the pedicle Hounsfield unit (HU) stratification based on K-means clustering. Methods : We retrospectively reviewed 74 patients who underwent deformity correction surgery between 2011 and 2020 and were followed up for >12 months. Pre- and post-operative data were used to determine the incidence of screw pullout, UIV TP hook implementation, vertebral body HU, pedicle HU, and patient outcomes. Data was then statistically analyzed for assessment of efficacy and risk prediction using stratified HU at UIV level alongside the effect of the TP hook system. Results : The screw pullout rate was 36.4% (27/74). Perioperative radiographic parameters were not significantly different between the pullout and non-pullout groups. The vertebral body HU and pedicle HU were significantly lower in the pullout group. K-means clustering stratified the vertebral body HU ≥205.3, <137.2, and pedicle HU ≥243.43, <156.03. The pullout rate significantly decreases in patients receiving the hook system when the pedicle HU was from ≥156.03 to < 243.43 (p<0.05), but the difference was not statistically significant in the vertebra HU stratified groups and when pedicle HU was ≥243.43 or <156.03. The postoperative clinical outcomes improved significantly with the implementation of the hook system. Conclusion : The UIV hook provides better clinical outcomes and can be considered a preventative strategy for screw-pullout in the certain pedicle HU range.

Effect of Alternating Temperature Conditions, and GA3 Treatment on Seed Germination of Trollius macropetalus (Regel) F.Schmidt (변온 조건 및 GA3 처리가 큰금매화의 종자 발아에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to determine the conditions for breaking dormancy in the seeds of the North Korean plant resource, Trollius macropetalus, and to investigate its germination characteristics. The morphological characteristics and viability of T. macropetalus seeds were examined. Germination characteristics were investigated based on temperature conditions (15/6℃ & 25/15℃), cold stratification treatment, and GA3 treatment. The results showed that cold stratification treatment had no effect on breaking the dormancy of T. macropetalus. GA3 treatment significantly increased the germination rate of T. macropetalus and also improved the mean germination days and germination speed. However, compared to the 15/6℃ condition, the effectiveness of GA3 treatment for T. macropetalus decreased under the 25/15℃ condition. It was determined that T. macropetalus have a nondeep-type morpho-physiological dormancy. The most effective conditions for breaking dormancy were found to be the 15/6℃ temperature condition and GA3 treatment at 500 mg·L-1. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable information for the mass propagation of T. macropetalus, which has potential applications in landscaping and pharmaceutical materials.

Assessment of the Usefulness of the Water Spray for Fire Extinguishing in Case of Fire in Tunnels (터널 화재시 수분무 소화설비의 효용성 평가)

  • In this study, we conducted an FDS numerical simulation for the purpose of carrying out a basic assessment of the usefulness of the water spray for fire extinguishing. We analyzed the effect of securing the stability in temperature and smoke density in case of fire according to fire intensities (20MW, 50MW) and changes in wind speed. When there was no wind speed in tunnels, it was effective in securing the safety of people because the cooling effect of the water spray system had an excellent effect on reducing temperatures and smoke densities there. The higher a fire intensity is, the less effect it has on reducing smoke flows. When an air current exists in tunnels, its cooling effect disturbs the smoke stratification and lowers the visibility degree during evacuation. Therefore, the water spray for fire extinguishing should be put into action only after people take shelter during fire.

EFFECT OF THE SHAPE OF IMPINGEMENT PLATE ON THE VAPORIZATION AND FORMATION OF FUEL MIXTURE IN IMPINGING SPRAY

  • The effect of the shape of the side wall on vaporization and fuel mixture were investigated for the impinging spray of a direct injection(DI) gasoline engine under a variety of conditions using the LIEF technique. The characteristics of the impinging spray were investigated under various configurations of piston cavities. To simulate the effect of piston cavity configurations and injection timing in an actual DI gasoline engine, the parameters were horizontal distance from the spray axis to side wall and vertical distance from nozzle tip to impingement plate. Prior to investigating the side wall effect, experiments on free and impinging sprays for flat plates were conducted and these results were compared with those of the side wall impinging spray. For each condition, the impingement plate was located at three different vertical distances(Z=46.7, 58.4, and 70 mm) below the injector tip and the rectangular side wall was installed at three different radial distances(R=15, 20, and 25 mm) from the spray axis. Radial propagation velocity from spray axis along impinging plate became higher with increasing ambient temperature. When the ambient pressure was increased, propagation speed reduced. High ambient pressures tended to prevent the impinging spray from the propagating radially and kept the fuel concentration higher near the spray axis. Regardless of ambient pressure and temperature fully developed vortices were generated near the side wall with nearly identical distributions, however there were discrepancies in the early development process. A relationship between the impingement distance(Z) and the distance from the side wall to the spray axis(R) was demonstrated in this study when R=20 and 25 mm and Z=46.7 and 58.4 mm. Fuel recirculation was achieved by adequate side wall distance. Fuel mixture stratification, an adequate piston cavity with a shorter impingement distance from the injector tip to the piston head should be required in the central direct injection system.

Seed Germination, Seedling Grwoth and Optimal Seedling Density of Phellodendron amurense Rupr. in Nursery (황벽나무의 종자발아(種子發芽)와 묘목생장(苗木生長) 및 적정생육밀도(適正生育密度)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • We examined the effect of pretreatments on seed germination, seedling growth, optimal seedling density of Phellodendron amurense. The seeds were carefully purified after collection in late Oct. from natural population at Mt. Chiri. For the evaluation of pretreatment effects, seeds were sowed in an experimental nursery after being stored in open ground($2{\sim}8^{\circ}C$) with soaking in 20% $H_2O_2$, 50-fold pon-pon solution, cold moist stratification in refrigerator($2{\sim}4^{\circ}C$) and dry storage in roam temperature($4{\sim}18^{\circ}C$), respectively, For the effect of growth density of seedlings, seedlings germinated in nursery were precisely controlled with 53, 104, 220, 380 seedlings per $m^2$. Among pretreatments for the promotion of germination rate, pon-pon treatment(68.8%) was highest, the others were higher than that in dry storage(2.3%), and these seed pretreatment methods were significantly different at 1% level. The height growth of seedlings showed the most vigor from Jun.12 to Jul. 8, and from Jul.20 to Aug. 2, and it reached to 72.8% of height growth. In case of 1-0 seedling, although seedling density per $m^2$ was increased, seedling growth was decreased. The optimal seedling density was 104 seedlings per $m^2$. The standard seedlings for plantation were above height 55cm, root collar diameter 8.1mm, and root length 21cm. These results demonstrated that seed of P. amurense requires stratification for the germination promotion.
