Strain gage method is used to evaluate the mode I dynamic stress intensity factor of marging steel(18Ni) and titanium alloy(Ti-6A1-4V). To decide the best strain gage position on specimen, static fracture toughness test was performed. Then instrumented charpy impact test and dynamic tensile test was performed by using strain gage method for evlauating dynamic stress intensity factor. Strain gage signals on the crack tip region are used to calculate the stress intensity factors. It is found that strain gage method is more useful than method by using load which is obtained from impact tup to assess dynamic characteristics such as dynamic stress intensity factor.

The characteristic test for gage factors of temperature self-compensated strain gages at cryogenic temperature is presented. By joining the international round robin test on electrical strain gages at cryogenic temperatures, the gage factors of three kinds of widely-used strain gages are obtained at the room temperature, the temperatures of liquid nitrogen and liquid helium. The calibration system which produce precise bending strain is by mechanical loading at cryogenic temperature. This paper also presents the creep characteristic of strain gages at maximum strain level.

In LNG Tank, it is very important to measure the strain in Membrane by theoretical and experimental stress analysis. In this paper, perform the test about strain gage, thermal sensor and lead wire to make clear the properies. The test results conclude that stress measurement by strain gage must consider the effect of many factors to measure strain acculately. The corrections should be made on apparent strain, lead wire length and Membrane shape. It is also important to measure the temperatures accurately at the strain gage location

To investigate the relationship between strain distribution and tensile properties of brittle material, five types of tensile coupon of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) modified the tab portion in order to have a strain distribution including S0, SD1, SD2, SV1, SV2 were tested. The ultimate stress and strain of SD2 and SV2 which was intended to have larger strain distribution were smaller than those of SD1 and SV1, that was more clearly shown in the test results of the symmetric coupons (SV series) than the asymmetric coupons (SD series). In addition, the ultimate stress and strain of most coupons with strain distribution in this study were decreased when compared to the control group with uniform strain. These results were analyzed in various ways through 1) the average of the strain values directly measured by the strain gages, 2) the converted strain calculated by dividing the total deformation by the effective length, and 3) the ultimate effective strain derived from both the elastic modulus and the ultimate load. The values measured by strain gage indicates response of the local region precisely, but it does not represent the response from whole section. However, the converted strain and effective strain can supplement disadvantage of gage because they represent the average response of whole section. In particular, the effective strain can provide rupture strain conservatively, which can be utilized in practice, when the value obtained by strain gage was not effective due to gage damage or abnormal gage readings near ultimate load. This value provides a value that can be used even when partial rupture has occurred and is reasonably useful for specimens with strain distribution.

As a tool for strain measurement to work with screw driven or hydraulic material test systems, in which mechanical vibration is inherent, SSDG(Speckle Strain/Displacement Gage), ESP(Electronic Speckle Photography) and its 3-dimension version SDSP are investigated for the theory and practical appliance. Through tension test of steel strips, their validity and shortcomings are examined. As the results, it has been shown that, although SSDG and ESP provide direct measurement of in-plane strain in one direction, they are so sensitive to the out-plane displacement. On the other hand, SDSP which is aided with DIC (Digital Image Correlation) technique to trace the movement of the speckles provides not only in-plane 2-dimensional displacement field, but also out-of-plane displacement simultaneously. However, because the DIC is time-consuming, not automated yet and it needs post-processing to evaluate strain from the displacement field, SDSP appears to be not adequate as a real time sensor.
A C-type LNG mock-up tank was constructed to evaluate the durability of the tank and its structural safety. An experimental strain analysis system equipped with strain gages was designed to investigate the structural behavior of the inner tank at a high hydraulic pressure. In addition, the insulation used in the space between the inner tank and outer tank had a compressive strength and the inner tank thickness of the cylindrical shell and hemisphere was 4.0 mm, which was designed to be thinner than the existing rules. The strains on the inner tank were measured with increasing pressure, and these measurements were compared and analyzed at the strain gage attachment points.

PVDF film sensor was applied to measure the stress concentration for monitoring the structural integrity. The strain calibration of this film sensor was performed by the bending test of aluminum beam. The PVDF sensor and the electrical strain gage were bonded on the beam. When the beam was loaded, the output of electrical strain gage was compared with the output of the PVDF sensor. The waveform of PVDF sensor output was shown as the same form of the output of electrical strain gage. The gain was determined as 1.7 by comparing these two signals to determine the exact value of the strain. In order to experiment the stress concentration, the stress field was analyzed by finite element analysis. The tensile test of notched steel specimens was conducted to develop the measurement technique of stress concentration. The output voltage ratio between the PVDF sensor near the notch and the PVDF sensor far from the notch could give the information about the load bearing capacity of steel specimen.

The split Hokinson pressure bar(SHPB) test has been used to find the mechanical property of materials at high strain rate. A tensile split Hopkinson pressure bar test system is developed and the threaded tensile specimen and the split collar are placed between elastic bars. When the compressive elastic wave generated by a striker is transferred from the transmit bar to the incident bar, some elastic wave is reflected at the threaded parts of the specimen and the transmit bar. This reflected wave can interfere with the transmitted wave. A proper length of elastic bars and the location of strain gage in these elastic bars are determined to avoid this interference. In order to avoid the interference of elastic wave reflected at the threaded parts of specimen and elastic bar, the length of transmit bar must be longer than that of incident bar. Strain gage in transmit bar must be located as close as possible from the interface of a transmit bar and specimen. In the developed tensile SHPB test system, A12011-T3 and A17075-T6 are tested to get the true stress-strain relation in the range of strain rate at $10^3/sec$

This paper presents a method for the equivalent-circuit parameters and torque characteristics calculation of squirrel-cage induction motors. The measurment of motor parameters were calculated by the stator resistance test, the blocked rotor test and no load test through T type equivalent-circuit method. Especially, this paper describes the test results obtained by using hall sensor and strain gage for the current and the torque characteristics of induction motors. 1(HP), three-phase squirrel cage induction motor has been used during the test and the parameters are compared with those obtained by the maker parameters of simulation results and experiment.
