The purpose of this study was to evalute the effect of immersion disinfection on the dimensional stability of rubber impression materials. The metallic master model was made in order to simulate the intraoral arch form. Impressions were made from four impression materials (Exaflex, Extrude, Reprosil, Impregum-F) and immersed in three disinfectant solutions (Wydex, Vi-Pon, Potadine). Casts from the impressions were measured according to the interpreparation distance. The A-B and The B-D abutment distance were compared with the control group and disinfected groups. The results were as follows; 1. The measurements of the stone cast increased relative to the master model and there was a significant difference (P<0.05). 2. The relative dimensional change of the stone cast as compared with master model ranged from 0.10% to 0.56% in the A-B distance and ranged from 0.04% to 0.27% in the B-D distance. 3. The dimensional change of the disinfected groups as compared with the control group was significantly different in the three impression materials except for Impregum-F (P<0.05). 4. The relative dimensional change of the disinfected groups compared with the control group ranged from 0% to 0.20% in the A-B distance and ranged from -0.09% to 0.11% in the B-D distance. These results suggest that immersion disinfection of rubber impression materials by chemical disinfectants causes very small dimensional change and the change is clinically acceptable for prothesis fabrication

The accuracy of master cast reproduction by a polyvinylsiloxane impression material using two visible-light curing resin and autopolymerizing polymethyl methacrylate resin custom tray material was investigated. Custom trays were fabricated from a master cast that had three index points marked on both inner and outer vestibules and then poured in yellow stone. The distance between the reproduced index points were measured to be ${\pm}0.001mm$ with a measuring microscope and the algebraic norms calculated for each tray material. No differences were found in the algebraic norms of inner and outer dimensions for upper tray impressions by ANOVA(p>0.05). However, T-test revealed that there were differences between upper and lower impressions and Tukey's hsd test revealed that in lower tray impressions, the Palatray in inner, the Lightplast in outer dimensions respectively were different from other materials. The index points reproduced on the casts compared with the master cast, were closer together for upper tray impressions. All four tray materials produced acceptable casts, 1. Algebraic norms of inner and outer dimensions of the test casts for upper trays were not statistically different irrespective of materials.(P>0.05) 2. T-test showed that there were differences between means with upper and lower trays especially in outer dimension.(P>0.05) 3. But, algebraic norms of inner and outer dimensions of the test casts for lower trays were statistically different between materials. 4. Palatray XL in inner, Lightplast-platten in outer dimensions respectively for lower trays were different from other materials, but, the nearest to the original model.
The gaps between the die margin worked and the casting body were measured with an optical microscope and compared after making crown prosthetic materials using three kinds of die material - dental stone, extra hard stone, epoxy resin - used in crown prosthesis. The results are as follows : 1. All the gaps between the cast cervical margin and the casting bodies were relatively good regardless of die materials used with the gaps under $50{\mu}m$, the allowable limit. 2. The cervical margin suitability of epoxy resin die was the highest among the three kinds of die material with the suitability value of $30.28{\pm}12.67$. 3. Among the four surfaces(buccal, lingual, mesial, distal) of all the casting bodies, buccal surface was the highest in the cervical margin suitability with the value of $25.93{\pm}15.51$.
This investigation is carried out of inqurie into the effects of the accelerator on the setting time and haedness when it is used with plaster products. Plaster($\beta$), dental hard stone($\alpha$), and limproved dental hard stone($M{\alpha}$) are selected as the objects of the investigation, since they are most common materials for dental plaster products. Setting time is gauged by means of Vicket Needle and Gilmore Needle, and hardness is gauged by means of Brinell and Vicket Hardness machines. Samples of each material are made in the standerd water powder ratio and with the accelerator repectively, Every material is tested five times each. The results of the tests are as fallow : 1) In each case the setting time is shortened when the accelerator is used. 2) Of the three materials the hardness of the plaster was lowest A($\beta$) < B($\alpha$) < C($M{\alpha}$)} 3) In each case the hardness of the samples made in the standard water powder ratio were higher than that of the sample made with the accelerator. A1 > A2 ; B1>B2 ; C1>C2 4) Final Conclusion : Higher quality cast is expected when it is made in the standard water powder ratio.
PURPOSE. Comparing the accuracy of casts produced from digital workflow to that of casts produced from conventional techniques. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Whole arch alginate (ALG) and polyvinyl siloxane (PVS) impressions were taken with stock trays and custom trays, respectively. The ALG impressions were poured with type III dental stone, while the PVS impressions were poured with type IV dental stone. For the digital workflow, IOS impressions were taken and physical casts were produced by 3D printing. In addition, 3D printed casts were produced from images obtained from a laboratory scanner (LS). For each technique, a total of 10 casts were produced. The accuracies of the whole arch and separated teeth were virtually quantified. RESULTS. Whole arch cast accuracy was more superior for PVS followed by LS, ALG, and IOS. The PVS and ALG groups were inferior in the areas more susceptible to impression material distortion, such as fossae and undercut regions. The LS casts appeared to have generalized errors of minor magnitude influencing primarily the posterior teeth. The IOS casts were considerably more affected at the posterior region. On the contrary, the IOS and LS casts were more superior for single tooth accuracy followed by PVS and ALG. CONCLUSION. For whole arch accuracy, casts produced from IOS were inferior to those produced from PVS and ALG. The inferior outcome of IOS appears to be related to the span of scanning. For single tooth accuracy, IOS showed superior accuracy compared to conventional impressions.
Purpose: The purpose of this study were to analysis of marginal adaptation of metal cores fabricated by selective laser sintering. Methods: Main model was prepared and ten stone models were fabricated. Ten single metal cores were fabricated by selective laser sintering(SLS group) and another ten single metal cores using lost wax technique and casting method were manufactured(CAST group). The marginal adaptation of metal cores were analysis using by the silicone replica technique. Silicone replicas were sectioned two times. The marginal adaptations were measured using by digital microscope. Statistical analyses was performed with independent t-test(${\bullet}{\cdot}=0.05$). Results: Means of marginal adaptations were 90.3 ${\ss}{\uparrow}$ for SLS group and 65.1 ${\ss}{\uparrow}$ for CAST group. Two groups were statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Marginal adaptation of metal cores fabricated by selective laser sintering were ranged within the clinical recommendation.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of model according to three types of dental scanner. A maxillary acrylic model was prepared and duplicated 10 times by silicone impression materials. Corresponding working casts were formed from scannable stone and got a 3-dimensional digital models using three different scanners. The distance of each measurement region was measured using vernier calipers and the respective program. One-way ANOVA and the Tukey honestly significant difference post hoc test (${\alpha}=0.05$) was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0. Overall, the stone cast is smaller than the digital models in measurement distance. And measuring point value of laser scanner showed the most similar values and measurement points value of digital vernier calipers. Digital model of white light scanner showed similar values in the measurement points value of the blue light scanner. In conclusion, the laser scanner showed the best accuracy among the three types of dental scanner. However, the difference between the digital models and the stone cast can be accommodated in making prostheses. Thereby, three types of dental scanner are available in a clinically acceptable range.
The Bukji-ri Stone Pensive Bodhisattva of Bonghwa in the collection of Kyungpook National University Museum was transported to the National Museum of Korea for display in a special exhibition('Masterpieces of Early Buddhist Sculpture 100 BCE - 700 CE') and therefore underwent conservation ahead of the exhibition's start date. The stone sculpture had visibly encrusted surface dirt, granular disintegration and fissures upon arrival. Notably, a crack running obliquely across its lower half rendered the object unable to support its own weight without a pedestal, so one was created in order to maintain the sculpture in an upright position while on exhibition. The sculpture was further examined using a polarizing microscope and a stereoscopic microscope. SEM-EDS resulted in petrographic analysis of the stone's mineral composition and identification of its surface contaminants. Polarizing light microscopy confirmed biotite granite as the main mineral component of the object. Several urethane resins cast in round cross-sections were inserted into the newly made pedestal and stability tests were perform to measure the frictional force of the resins. An additional test was performed to compare urethane resin and epoxy resin, with results showing urethane to have a higher coefficient of friction. Utilizing a pedestal with urethane resin effectively ensured the stability of the Bukji-ri Stone Pensive Bodhisattva of Bonghwa during the aforementioned exhibition.
The recently introduced castable glass ceramics incorporate properties characteristic of natural teeth and they are regarded as an ideal material to restore lost tooth structure. The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal fit of castable ceramic crown with that of the metal-ceramic crown in the process of heat treatment. Two master dies for castable ceramic crowns and metal-ceramic crowns were fabricated from being cast with the base metal. Each master die was duplicated with addition silicone and hard stone. Ten castable ceramic crowns were made on each hard stone die and their marginal openings were measured three times first, after casting; second, after ceramming; third, after shading. The other ten metal-ceramic crowns were made on each hard stone die and their marginal openings were measured three times : first, after casting; second, after degassing; third, after porcelain veneering. Each crown was seated on its master die with the constant force delivered by loading jig. And then, marginal openings were measured on four locations by optical projector at X50 magnification. The results were as follows: 1. The mean marginal openings of castable ceramic crowns were $31.1{\pm}12.7{\mu}m$ after casting; $44.6{\pm}12.8{\mu}m$ after ceramming; $51.2{\pm}16.8{\mu}m$ after shading. 2. The mean marginal openings of the metal-ceramic crowns were $26.2{\pm}13.8{\mu}m$ after casting; $29.8{\pm}10.3{\mu}m$ after degassing; $38.0{\pm}14.5{\mu}m$ after porcelain veneering. 3. There was significant increase in the marginal opening of castable ceramic crowns after ceramming, while metal-ceramic crowns sho(wed significant increase after porcelain veneering (p<0.05). 4. Marginal fit of metal-ceramic crown was better than that of castable ceramic crown (p<0.01).
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of shear bond strength between various percentage of reused dental ceramic alloys and porcelain. One hundred specimens were made of one semiprecious alloy and three nonprecious alloys. Each alloy group was subdevided into five groups according to the additional precentage of new alloy. Group I specimens were made of 100% new alloy and served as the control of the investigation. Group II specimens were made of once-cast alloy with 75% new alloy. Group III specimens were made of once-cast alloy with 50% new alloy. Group IV specimens were made of once-cast alloy with 25% new alloy. Group V specimens were made of 100% recast alloy. Five specimens were made for each group of the alloy combinations. The test specimens were prepared by firing porcelain doughnuts on the alloy rod surface, and invested in dental stone. Bond strengths were measured by Instron universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. The fractured surface of metal specimens were examined under the scanning electron microscope. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The shear bond strength of Albabond showed no significant difference between control group and reused alloy group. 2. The shear bond strength of reused alloy groups of nonprecious alloys were lower than that of control groups. 3. The shear bond strength between porcelain and metal in semiprecious alloy was higher than in nonprecious alloys 4. In nonprecious alloys. Rexillium III showed the highest bond strength value and Excelalloy showed the lowest shear bond strength value. 5. Regardless of the type of alloys and additional proportion of new alloys, scanning electron microscope photographs of the fracture surface between alloy and porcelain revealed simillar semiprecious alloy and nonprecious alloys.
